Item type:Item, A Charge-Reservoir with Buck-Store and Boost-Restore (BSBR) Technique for High Efficient Conversion and Low Cost Solution of RGB LED Display Panels(2009) ;Hsieh, Chun-Yu ;Yang, Chih-Yu ;Huang, Ming-Hsin ;Li, Don-HwanChen, Chi-LinA boost converter with buck-store and boost-restore (BSBR) technique fabricated by 0.25 mu m CMOS BCD process can provide different supply voltages to drive series RGB LEDs in sequence for reducing the power consumption on the constant current generator. The proposed technique not only stores and restores extra charge during the transient time of the reference tracking response to improve the efficiency but also enhances the reference tracking response to greatly reduce load transition time. Experimental results show that the period of reference-tracking response can be improved. When the load current is 100mA, the periods of reference down-tracking and up-tracking are smaller than lops and 20 mu s, respectively. Furthermore, this technique also can provide a regulated voltage to drive the sub-block implemented in the LCD system. The maximum efficiency of charge recycling is up to 94% and the maximum efficiency of this boost converter is 92.5%. Experimental results demonstrate fast and efficient reference tracking performance is achieved by the proposed BSBR technique.Item type:Item, A dual-phase charge pump circuit with compact size(2010-07-01) ;Huang, Ming-Hsin ;Hsieh, Chun-Yu ;Fan, Po-Chin ;Chen, Ke-Horng電控工程研究所In this paper, a regulated dual-phase charge pump with compact size is presented. By means of a nano-ampere switched-capacitor voltage reference (SCVR) circuit, the dual-phase charge pump regulator can reduce the quiescent current and the output ripple. Besides, a new power stage is proposed to define the stability of the overall system. Owing to the design of buffer stage, the charge pump regulator can extend bandwidth and increase phase margin. Thus, the transient response and driving capability can be improved. Beside, the proposed automatic body switching circuit can efficiently drive the bulk of the power p-type MOSFETs to avoid leakage and potential latch-up. This chip was fabricated by TSMC 0.35 mu m, 3.3 V/5 V 2P4 M CMOS technology. The input voltage range varies from 2.9 to 4.9 V for the lithium battery and the output voltage is regulated at 5 V. Experimental results demonstrate the charge pump can provide 50 mA maximum load current without any oscillation problems.Item type:Item, A High Efficiency and Compact Size 65nm Power Management Module with 1.2V Low-Voltage PWM Controller for UWB System Application(2009) ;Lee, Yu-Huei ;Wang, Shih-Jung ;Yang, Yao-Yi ;Zheng, Kuo-LinChen, Po-FungThis 65 nm power management module with 1.2 V low-voltage PWM controller aims to integrate with ultra-wideband (UWB) system to get high efficiency and compact size. The on-chip pre-regulator with power conditioning circuit provides a constant and noiseless supply voltage. Thus, the voltage variation of battery has less effect on the low-voltage PWM controller. The proposed compensation enhancement multistage amplifier (CEMA) increases system loop gain and stabilizes the system without off-chip compensation circuit. With excellent line/load transient response, the proposed power management has the highest efficiency about 92% and 0.995 mm(2) silicon die area.Item type:Item, An Energy-Recycling (ER) Technique for Field Color Sequential LCD Backlight Driving(2009) ;Huang, Ming-Hsin ;Tsai, Yueh-Chang ;Hsieh, Chun-Yu ;Chen, Ke-Horng電控工程研究所An energy-recycling (ER) technique has been proposed to implement high power conversion efficiency and low cost solution of field color sequential (FCS) LEDs backlight driving. One recycling capacitor C(R) and one power-transistor M(R) are added to synchronous boost converter to compose the ER function. When the output voltage of FCS-LEDs backlight driver switches from 40V to 26V for driving RGB LEDs during related time interval, ER technique stops to boost input voltage and switches to recycle energy from output terminal to the recycling capacitor CR. Thus, the output voltage can be rapidly switched between two different voltage levels with minimum power losses. The proposed ER technique has been fabricated by TSMC 40V BCD process. The experimental results demonstrate fast and efficient output voltage tracking performance is achieved by the proposed ER technique.Item type:Item, An Energy-Recycling (ER) Technique for Reducing Power Consumption of Field Color Sequential (FCS) RGB LEDs Backlight Module(2009) ;Huang, Ming-Hsin ;Tsai, Yueh-Chang ;Wang, Shih-Wei ;Wu, Dian-RungChen, Ke-HorngA single driving module with field color sequential (FCS) LCD technology needs to dynamically switch output voltage between 40 V for 12 series G-and B-color LEDs and 26 V for 12 series R-color LEDs at related time cluster. Thus, an energy-recycling (ER) technology is proposed to accelerate voltage settling and save compressed energy when the driving voltage is pressed from 40 V to 26 V. Only one recycling capacitor and one Schottky diode are added into the power structure of synchronous boost converter for composing the proposed ER technology. A proposed energy-recycling mode (ERM) controller is plugged into a boundary current mode (BCM) controller to control energy delivering and recycling. The proposed ER technology was fabricated by TSMC 0.25 mu m 2.5/5 V BCD process. Experimental results demonstrate fast and efficient tracking performance of driving voltage is achieved.Item type:Item, Current Feedback Compensation (CFC) Technique for Adaptively Adjusting the Phase Margin in Capacitor-Free LDO Regulators(2008-01-01) ;Yang, Huan-Chien ;Huang, Han-Hsiang ;Chen, Chi-Lin ;Huang, Ming-HsinChen, Ke-HomgCurrent feedback compensation technique (CFC) can adaptively adjust the phase margin for achieving better transient response than that with variant phase margin at different load current conditions. The FSC technique performs a pseudorandom color sequence in the spatial and temporal domains to reduce color-breakup and motion-blur effects. The direct-lit RGB-LED backlight driver increases brightness, contrast, and uniformity due to the removal of a color filter. The proposed energy-recycling technique can harvest the extra energy when the driving voltage switches from 36 to 24 V. Experimental results show that energy saving is higher than 17% of the conventional driving method.Item type:Item, Low-Ripple and Dual-Phase Charge Pump Circuit Regulated by Switched-Capacitor-Based Bandgap Reference(2009-05-01) ;Huang, Ming-Hsin ;Fan, Po-Chin ;Chen, Ke-Horng ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper proposes a low-ripple and dual-phase charge pump circuit regulated by switched-capacitor-based bandgap reference. Having a minimal number of switches and an optimum current sequence, the proposed ALTC technique adaptively and accurately adjusts storage energy in the form of inductor current according to the actual load condition, without wasting surplus charge and without increasing cross regulation. Moreover, a current-mode ring oscillator with a self-bias current source circuit, in place of the conventional start-up ring oscillator, is proposed to produce a nearly constant system clock for the requirement of sub-1 V start-up procedure. Because the proposed current-mode ring oscillator operates between the start-up process and steady state of the SIDO dc-dc converter, its simplified design efficiently addresses the high switching frequency losses at sub-1 V start-up procedure, reducing chip area and power consumption.
