Item type:Item, A Two-Dimensional Editing System Based on Hand Gestures and Real Object Manipulation Using RGB-D Sensor(2016-01-01) ;Chen, Hsin-Kai ;Wong, Sai-Keung ;Huang, Po-Han ;Chang, Yu-An交大名義發表This paper presents a two-dimensional editing system which compromises the advantages of using hand gestures and real blocks to manipulate virtual objects. The system uses a RGB-D sensor to capture the color and depth images of the hands and real blocks. The raw images of the hands and blocks are segmented. Then we employ a contour based algorithm to perform hand gesture and shape recognition. The contours are extracted and reduced for eliminating the redundant points. After that a set of feature points are collected and they can be used for recognizing the hand gesture and the shapes of the real blocks. The users have two ways to interact with the virtual objects: 1) manipulating the real blocks to control them; and 2) using hand gestures as editing operations to edit them. Experimental results indicate that our system achieves high recognition rate. Our system supports the basic editing operations to the virtual objects, such as 'move', 'scale', 'rotate', and 'copy'. We also conducted a user study which reveals that our system is intuitive and entertaining.Item type:Item, Emotional virtual crowd on task completion in virtual markets(2018-05-01) ;Huang, Po-Han ;Wong, Sai-Keung ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceThis paper studies the effects of a virtual crowd with emotion on task completion in a virtual market. The users have to interact with the virtual agents so that the virtual agents are willing to lead the users to specific vendors. Then, the users can buy the required items. The users communicate with the virtual agents via a conversation dialog. The emotional agents' moods are affected by their own interaction (e.g., collision) while they are walking. Furthermore, their moods are also affected by the conversational responses of the users. We adopt a simple 2D mood model and use icons to represent the mood states of the agents. The mood model supports four mood states, which are Excitement, Anger, Sadness, and Neutral. We conducted a user study to evaluate the effects of the emotional virtual agents in different aspects, including task completion, time spent in conversation, following distance, and realism of the emotional virtual crowd.Item type:Item, NACHOS: Network-Aware CHains Orchestration Selection for NFV in SDN Datacenter(2015) ;Huang, Po-Han ;Li, Kuan-Wei ;Wen, Charles H. -P. ;電機學院College of Electrical and Computer EngineeringNetwork function virtualization (NFV) provides the flexibility for service providers to scale up their service systems and also enhances the possibility to satisfy user demand with limited resources by enabling network functions on commodity servers, as well as by allowing multiple identical network functions existing in the service networks. On the other hand, to accommodate various user demands, multiple service chains need to be applied in this network. However, due to the flow mingling problem in network service chaining, the system throughput can hardly be evaluated, and determining multiple service chains becomes a challenge. In this work, we identify two types of flow-mingling problems: intra-chains link contention and inter-chains link contention, and propose an algorithm named NACHOS to facilitate selection of multiple service chains. As a result, NACHOS can result in the optimality with maximum available bandwidth in a datacenter network, and can select service chains in polynomial time.Item type:Item, Parallel Running and Comparing the Behavior of Two Identical Network Servers(2019-01-01) ;Wang, Shie-Yuan ;Huang, Po-Han ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn this paper, we design, implement, and evaluate the functions and performance of a parallel running and comparing system that is built on OpenVswitch software switch. Parallel running is a very important method to change from an existing system to a new system. The conversion usually occurs when the technology of the old system is outdated and a new system needs to be installed to replace the old one. During parallel running, both the old and new systems are running side by side and their behavior are compared against each other until the users are certain that the new and old systems behave exactly the same. At that time, the old system will be removed and the new system will totally replace the old system. In this paper, we use the OpenVswitch to design and implement a comparing system for parallel running Our system has many useful features and can be applied to real mission-critical systems.Item type:Item, Reducing Network Cost of Minimal-Migration Based VM Management in Cloud Datacenters(2016) ;Li, Kuan-Wei ;Huang, Po-Han ;Wen, Charles H-P. ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringNowadays, Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) provide flexible architectures and reliable internet accessories in cloud datacenters, where different types of applications are hosted. In order to achieve higher resource utilization and better quality of service, virtualization is widely used and implemented with virtual machines (VMs). However, most studies focus on VM management for utilization and energy, not yet considering the cost for emerging internet applications. Therefore, to further reduce network cost, we propose utilization-and-network-driven (UND) and only-network-driven (OND) strategies on top of the common minimal-migration (MM) based VM management as UND-MM and OND-MM. According to simulation results, both UND-MM and OND-MM strategies effectively reduce network cost by averagely 7% and 37%, respectively, of the original MM while retaining comparable resource utilization in CPU and memory for normally-loaded and overloaded datacenters. Moreover, the OND-MM, which is simpler, outperforms the UND-MM, and thus becomes more preferable for VM management in cloud datacenters.
