Item type:Item, A Data-driven Architecture for Remote Control of Sensors over a Wireless Sensor Network and the Internet(2009) ;Chang, Yuan-Jen ;Chen, Chin-Hsing ;Huang, Wen-Tzeng ;Chen, You-YinKuo, Chih-YuanThis study revealed an applicable architecture in which a data-driven mechanism was designed to bridge a wireless sensor network (WSN) and the Internet. The system was divided into two independent parts. The first part is the data communication between the sensor network and the database. The other part is the data communication between the database and the user interface (UI). These two parts are connected by the database server. Asynchronous interoperation was introduced while exchanging data between these two parts. Users were not allowed to control the sensors through direct connection to the sensors and can only use the Web service to update the sensor profile built in the database. The sensors were triggered to start the action through a data-update event from the database. A sensor profile built in the database collected all sensor information and all user control command. For the information to be centralized and triggered by the database, regardless of whether sensors were measured in a periodic sampling or an event-driven environment, all sensor actions were triggered through a data-update event in the database. For the sake of improving user experience, a Web-based UI was implemented using scalable vector graphics (SVG) and Ajax technologies. All operations by users were conducted through the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) standard method. Therefore, this system can be used via a browser and easily deployed. The proposed architecture is suitable for a healthcare system, a personal body area network, and the Intranet for control.Item type:Item, A vision-based regression model to evaluate Parkinsonian gait from monocular image sequences(2012-01-01) ;Chen, You-Yin ;Cho, Chien-Wen ;Lin, Sheng-Huang ;Lai, Hsin-YiLo, Yu-ChunParkinson's Disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder with progressive loss of dopaminergic and other sub-cortical neurons. Among various approaches, gait analysis is commonly used to help identify the biometric features of PD. There have been some studies to date on both the classification of PD and estimation of gait parameters. However, it is also important to construct a regression system that can evaluate the degree of abnormality in PD patients. In this paper, we intended to develop a PD gait regression model that is capable of predicting the severity of motor dysfunction from given gait image sequences. We used a model-free strategy and thus avoided the critical demands of segmentation and parameter estimation. Furthermore, we used linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to increase the feature efficiency by maximizing and minimizing the between- and within-group variations. Regression was also achieved by assessing the spatial and temporal information through classification and finally by using these two new indices for linear regression. According to the experiments, the outcomes significantly correlated with the sum of sub-scores from the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS): motor examination section with r = 0.92 and 0.85 for training and testing, respectively, with p < 0.0001. Compared with conventional methods, our system provided a better evaluation of PD abnormality. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. The "backoff," the random delay of CSMA/CA, can be used to create a probability model and to determine the average packet delay over RT-WSN. The proposed theoretical analysis model was nearly consistent with the simulation and with experimental results. This suggests that the slotted CSMA/CA mechanism cannot be applied effectively to RT-WSN because it cannot avoid a high collision rate with RT-WSN application requirements and, therefore, may waste a great deal of system bandwidth. We found that the packet collision rate increased up to 731% compared to an ideal model with more than 10 users within an RT-WSN. Without improvements in methodology, the high collision rate makes this slotted CSMA/CA mechanism unsuitable for RT-WSN applications.Item type:Item, An Integrated Service Model for Telecare System(2008) ;Chen, Chin-Hsing ;Huang, Wen-Tzeng ;Chen, You-Yin ;Chang, Yuan-Jen電控工程研究所The medical costs for elderly people in Taiwan have increased largely due to the increasing number of aging people in the country. To meet the goals and requirements of the National Health Insurance (NHI), designing and providing a program which would reduce the unnecessary medical services demanded by elderly people is needed. In this research, a conceptual service model of the telecare system applied in Taiwan is discussed and presented. The service model is discussed in three dimensions, namely, service, delivery, and content. In the service dimension, the services provided by telecare service should be accessible and responsible. In the delivery dimension, telecare service should be highly interactive and with high usability. Finally, in the content dimension, the content of telecare service must be individualized and based on users\' needs. Most importantly, it must be comprehensive and authentic. Telecare service can be used as an important tool to assist nurses in nursing homes. It should be delivered by skilled nurses to increase the confidence of users. In district hospitals, doctors can substitute the weekly telecare service for traditional medical service. Therefore, the costs of NHI can be reduced. Moreover, the accessibility and interactivity of telecare service will give users greater satisfaction. The cooperation of nursing homes and district hospitals in the telecare service will not only improve the quality of long-term care but will also pave the way for the practice of telecare service in Taiwan.Item type:Item, CONSERVING BANDWIDTH IN A WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK FOR TELEMEDICINE APPLICATION(2010) ;Hsu, Shuo-Jen ;Chen, Chin-Hsing ;Chen, Show-Hong ;Huang, Wen-TzengChang, Yuan-JenTelemedicine aided by wireless sensor networks (WSN) has recently become a healthcare trend. Many previous studies have adopted the ZigBee-based WSN to implement a platform and/or a telemedicine system. However, the low data rate and bandwidth have limited the maximum number of nodes in a WSN during continuous and simultaneous transmission. The issue of low data throughput has not been addressed in previous research. In this study, we propose an arrhythmia-aware system, and a new DSP-based WSN platform is developed for the high compression performance of physiological data in a ZigBee-based WSN. Proven by simulations and several real tests, the combination of the proposed platform and the sensor nodes can lead to more bandwidth conservation and extend the WSN scale for the next generation of telemedicine system.Item type:Item, Development of a Novel Bidirectional Control Telecare System over a Wireless Sensor Network and the Internet(2008) ;Chen, You-Yin ;Huang, Wen-Tzeng ;Chen, Chin-Hsing ;Chang, Yuan-Jen電控工程研究所The telecare system has become usable and accessible nowadays due to the development of information and communication technology. Its daily use has been made possible in long-term care through the use of wireless sensor networks. Unfortunately, the person in need of care may not be able to operate this sensor by him/herself He/she is only able to turn this sensor on and off. Furthermore, he/she may be unconscious when an alert message is transferred Against this backdrop, this paper therefore focuses on how the sensor can be automatically turned on to begin measuring physiological signals. In this research, a bidirectional sensor controlling desigin for a wireless sensor network with a Web-based interface using the Internet was proposed. Rich internet application (RIA) technology was used to make a Web client-side user interface (UI) easier to use. Scalable vector graphics (SVG) technology, recommended by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), was adopted to achieve dynamic charting of the browser. The combination of Ajax and SVG technology provides real-time interactivity and improves user experience on the use of the healthcare system. A complete system which includes the sensors, the wireless physiological defection network, the Web and database server, and the client side user interface was developed To prove system reliability and accessibility, experiment and performance test of a real case were conductedItem type:Item, Development of Telemedicine and Telecare over wireless sensor network(2008) ;Hsu, Shuo-Jen ;Wul, Hsin-Hsien ;Chen, Shih-Wei ;Liu, Tsang-ChiHuang, Wen-TzengTelemedicine & Telecare aided by wireless sensor network (WSN) has recently become a health-caring trend in the future. However, the low data rate of WSN limited the acceptable quality of service. Researches [1-6] adopted ZigBee-based WSN to implement a platform and/or a telecare system. However, the capacity problem due to low data rate characteristic has not been addressed. Our research proposed an arrhythmia-aware telecare system and a new DSP-based WSN platform, enabling good digital signal processing performance! in ZigBee-based WSN. Proved by simulations and several real tests, combination of the proposed platform and system can provide a more bandwidth-conserving and reliable telecare system, with lower wireless traffic jam and higher stability.Item type:Item, Exquisite Textiles Sensors and Wireless Sensor Network Device for Home Health Care(2008) ;Huang, Wen-Tzeng ;Chen, Chin-Hsing ;Chang, Yuan-Jen ;Chen, You-YinHuang, Jung-LinIn this study, we propose a wearing system with four sensors, ECG (electrocardiogram), three-axis accelerometer, temperature, and tight-switch, applied for remote monitoring system in home-care. The sensors ECG, measured with wearable electrodes made of the steel textile to generate the real-time heart-rate estimator, tight-switch, made of the steel textile to check whether wearing person dresses properly, accelerometer, and temperature parameters are received via the ZigBee receiver within an exquisite belt. Since the movable textile electrodes will cause of unfixed contacts when the wearing person is in motion, making the heart-rate estimation much a sophisticated work, the tight-switch sensor and FIR (Filter Impulse Response) filter technology are applied here to get the more satisfiable heart-rate. The other two bio-sensors can detect the whether fall-down or not and normal body-temperature of this wearing person. Moreover, the ZigBee device with small size, low-power consumption, and high-reliability characteristics is designed to transmit the detected bio-information from these four sensors. Therefore, the vital system embedded with the capability of real-time heart-rate estimation and transmission makes it highly suitable for applications of remote healthcare and wellness.
