Item type:Item, 1-to-(NxN) optical fan-out module for optical interconnects(1997-04-01) ;Su, DC ;Chang, JT ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所光電工程學系Based on the structure of substrate-mode holograms, a new type of 1-to-(N x N) optical fan-out module which consists of two layers of grating arrays for optical interconnects is presented. The first and second layer have a I x N grating array and a N x N grating array, respectively. By suitably choosing the diffracted angle and diffraction efficiency of every grating, similar diffraction will be performed repeatedly at every grating. Finally, N x N output beams are obtained.Item type:Item, 1-to-25 optical fanout module for optoelectronics interconnects(1996) ;Su, DC ;Chang, JT ;Huang, YT ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsItem type:Item, A four channel polarization and wavelength separation element using substrate-mode stacked holograms(1996-06-17) ;Chang, JT ;Su, DC ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所光電工程研究所A four channel polarization and wavelength separation element using substrate-mode stacked holograms is proposed based on the diffraction efficiency characteristics for polarization and the wavelength selectivity of a transmission-type phase volume grating. The assessment of liquefaction potential using the simplified procedure often involved adjustment in field test results to account for the effects of fines. The available fines content (FC) adjustment methods are highly empirical and may lead to very different conclusions. The need and/or level of FC adjustment should be justified based on cyclic behavior of sand and its relationship with fines. This study made an attempt to provide that reference information for a silty sand commonly found in Central Western Taiwan. A series of isotropic consolidation, undrained monotonic and cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on reconstituted Mai Liao Sand (MLS) with various FCs and densities. Concurrent shear wave velocities were measured using bender elements in some of the cyclic triaxial tests. This paper describes the geological background, the laboratory tests and their implications in the assessment of liquefaction potential for MLS. This device consists of two parallel antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides with a tapered outermost cladding layer. Such a device can provide advantageous features of low radiation loss, low crosstalk at the output end, and compatible core dimensions and indexes with single-mode optical fibers. The staircase approximation and the eigenmode expansion analysis are used to analyze and optimize this device. In our design on a Si-substrate, radiation losses below 0.38 dB and extinction ratios below -20 dB for two waveguide channels are achieved. The beam propagation method (BPM) is also used to verify our design and analysis results.Item type:Item, A novel Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on dual-ARROW structures for sensing applications(2005-12-01) ;Hsu, SH ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsA novel Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) based on dual antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides (ARROWs) for sensing is proposed. By adjusting the degree of structural symmetry to control the coupling behavior of the dual ARROW, an interferometric sensor without any bending structure can be realized. Operating principles and simulation characteristics of the device are discussed in detail. The refractive-index detection limit of the order of 10(-5) is achieved.Item type:Item, A substrate-mode holographic collimating and beam shaping element for laser diodes(1997-02-24) ;Chang, JT ;Su, DC ;Huang, ZX ;Huang, YT電子物理學系A new type of substrate-mode holographic collimating and beam shaping element for laser diodes is presented. The characteristics, design, and optimization of the Au-coated ARROW-B SPR sensor are discussed. The operating range of the sensor can be shifted by adding a dielectric overlay. The detectable changes of the refractive index down to the order of 10(-5) can be achieved. The design of an ARROW SPR sensor on Si substrates for detecting hydrogen molecules with palladium as the metal film will also be discussed.Item type:Item, Coupling-efficiency analysis and control of dual antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides(1996-06-01) ;Chen, YH ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsWe have developed the necessary theory to analyze the coupling efficiency of dual ARROW waveguide. Based on the theory, we have found that the coupling efficiency of dual ARROW waveguides can be flexibly controlled from a 100% value to zero by simply varying the outermost cladding thickness. BPM simulations also give same results and verify the theory. The theory and simulation results can be efficiently applied to designing an ARROW power divider with any specified power ratio.Item type:Item, Design and analysis of Mach-Zehnder interferometer sensors based on dual strip antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide structures(2005-11-01) ;Hsu, SH ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsMach-Zehnder interferometer sensors based on dual strip antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide (ARROW) structures are proposed. The higher-plant vacuole contains two types of proton-translocating pumps, H+-ATPase (EC 3.6.1.3) and H+-pyrophosphatase (EC 3.6.1.1), residing on the same membrane. These two enzymes generate roughly equal proton gradients across the vacuolar membrane for the secondary transport of ions and metabolites. However, the pumps respond differentially to stress in order to maintain critical functions of the vacuole. In this work, tonoplasts from etiolated mung bean seedlings ( Vigna radiata L.) were used to investigate the function of these two enzymes under high osmotic pressure. At high concentrations of sucrose or sorbitol, the light scattering and volume of isolated vesicles were progressively changed. Concomitantly, enzymatic activities, proton translocation, and coupling efficiencies of these two proton-pumping enzymes were inhibited to various extents under high osmotic pressure. No significant change in enzymatic activities of purified vacuolar H+-PPase and H+-ATPase under similar conditions was observed. We thus believe that the membrane structure is an important determinant for proper function of proton pumping systems of plant vacuoles. Furthermore, kinetic analysis shows different variation in apparent V-max but not in K-M values of vacuolar H+-PPase and H+-ATPase at high osmolarity of sucrose and sorbitol, respectively, suggesting probable alterations in substrate hydrolysis reactions but not substrate-binding affinity of the enzymes. A working model is proposed to interpret supplemental roles of vacuolar H+-PPase and H+-ATPase to maintain appropriate functions of plant tonoplasts.Item type:Item, Double-layer networks with holographic optical switches(2004-02-20) ;Deng, JS ;Lu, MF ;Huang, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThe double-layer networks have the advantages of being strictly nonblocking and having a simpler routing algorithm, the lowest system insertion loss, a zero differential loss, fewer drivers, fewer interconnection lines, fewer crossovers, and the best signal-to-noise-ratio characteristic compared with any nondilated network. Using holographic optical switches to construct these networks not only eliminates all interconnection lines and crossovers but also reduces the number of drivers. In addition, wavelength-selective characteristics can also be designed with volume-type holographic optical elements. These polarization-selective and wavelength-selective components have been designed and fabricated in various structures. In this presentation, we first review the basic structures of our holographic polarization-selective and wavelength-selective elements. Normally incident and output coupling of our compact and light-weight components provide better flexibility and easier alignment for system applications. Based on these holographic optical elements, we will introduce the compact structures for various optical interconnect applications.Item type:Item, Holographic polarization-selective elements in optical network applications(1996) ;Huang, YT ;Lin, MF ;Deng, JS ;Fan, KTChen, MJItem type:Item, Hybrid optical elements for dual-focus pickup(1997) ;Su, DC ;Chang, JT ;Huang, YT ;交大名義發表光電工程學系Two hybrid optical elements are presented for dual-focus pickup in the digital versatile disk (DVD) system. In the proposed structure, an antiresonant Fabry-Perot cavity parallel to the original waveguide is added at the outer side of the bend in order to reduce the bending loss. Based on a simple design rule for the antiresonant cavity, the materials can be flexibly chosen to be adapted to fabrication methods. The beam propagation method is used to verify this low-loss design. The double-bend and curved structures using the same principle for further loss improvement are also presented.Item type:Item, Modal analysis of rib antiresonant reflecting optical waveguides by mode matching method(2005) ;Yang, CE ;Hsu, SH ;Huang, YT ;Kwei, CM電子工程學系及電子研究所In this presentation, a simple patchwork to the classical mode matching method (MMM) is proposed to analyze rib ARROWs. MMM gives the modal effective index and the lateral part of modal power loss, and the total modal loss is obtained by including the vertical part which is estimated by a simple yet physical method described here. The simplified MMM (SMMM) is also presented to analyze the effect of TE-TM couplings. Simulation results of selected rib ARROW structures are discussed and compared with those obtained by the Effective Index Method (EIM).
