Item type:Item, 2-D/3-D switchable autostereoscopic display with multi-electrically driven liquid-crystal (MeD-LC) lenses(2010-09-01) ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Liao, Lin-Yao ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所A cylindrical multi-electrically driven liquid-crystal lens (MeD-LC lens) is proposed to extend the range of focusing. The MeD-LC lens could be applied to switching 2-D and 3-D images by supplying a specific operating voltage on each electrode. Therefore, the MeD-LC lens has less cross-talk than that of a conventional LC lens. Furthermore, the simplified structure of a MeD-LC lens with a homogeneous LC layer is much easier for fabrication without a LC-alignment issue.Item type:Item, 3D Air-Touch User Interface With High Touch Accuracy on Stereoscopic Displays(2016-05) ;Ting, Chih-Hung ;Jen, Tai-Hsiang ;Chen, Chun-Ho ;Shieh, Han-Ping D.Huang, Yi-PaiTo interact with stereoscopic images through 3D air-touch technology, the depth information for a touched 3D virtual object and the fingertip position should be aligned accurately. However, the fused 3D position is affected when the virtual object is blocked by the fingertip. Additionally, the 3D image with a large disparity decreases 3D touch accuracy. In order to improve the touch accuracy, virtual references and 3D image feedback were introduced respectively, and the touch accuracy was more than 90% based on a human interaction experiment.Item type:Item, 3D interactive system based on vision computing of direct-flective cameras(2016-08) ;Li, Xuan ;Chen, Chun-Ho ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA bare-finger 3D interactive technology for portable devices was developed. Using directive-flective cameras to reform the field of viewing, a blind working range close to the camera is eliminated. Moreover, the algorithm of vision computing, different from skin color detection, is presented to determine the positions of fingertips. The interactive range is workable from 1.5 to 50 cm above the entire surface of the display. The mean position error of less than 1 cm is achieved. This accuracy realizes a camera-based 3D interactive system allowing for near-distance functionality. Therefore, floating 3D images can be touched and interacted with, potentially creating more application and intuitive user-machine interface.Item type:Item, 3D Interactive System Using Integral Photography by Embedded Optical Sensors for Portable Devices(2016-11) ;Chen, Chun-Ho ;Ting, Chih-Hung ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所An air-touch interactive system for portable devices is presented. An embedded optical sensor based on this approach was developed to realize a lightweight and thin-form-factor three-dimensional (3-D) interactive system. Using integral photography, the 3-D coordinates of an object are calculated. Moreover, the micro-lens array is implemented to improve the working range to 80 mm and achieve a position error of less than 5 mm. The spatial resolution in x-y and z domains is 1 and 5 mm, respectively. In addition, this system can also support a gesture vector sensing function in the far field up to 150 mm.Item type:Item, A 2D/3D Hybrid Integral Imaging Display by Using Fast Switchable Hexagonal Liquid Crystal Lens Array(2017-01-01) ;Lee, Hsin-Hsueh ;Huang, Ping-Ju ;Wu, Jui-Yi ;Hsieh, Po-YuanHuang, Yi-PaiThe paper proposes a new display which could switch 2D and 3D images on a monitor, and we call it as Hybrid Display. In 3D display technologies, the reduction of image resolution is still an important issue. The more angle information offer to the observer, the less spatial resolution would offer to image resolution because of the fixed panel resolution. Take it for example, in the integral photography system, the part of image without depth, like background, will reduce its resolution by transform from 2D to 3D image. Therefore, we proposed a method by using liquid crystal component to quickly switch the 2D image and 3D image. Meanwhile, the 2D image is set as a background to compensate the resolution.. In the experiment, hexagonal liquid crystal lens array would be used to take the place of fixed lens array. Moreover, in order to increase lens power of the hexagonal LC lens array, we applied high resistance (Hi-R) layer structure on the electrode. Hi-R layer would make the gradient electric field and affect the lens profile. Also, we use panel with 801 PPI to display the integral image in our system. Hence, the consequence of full resolution 2D background with the 3D depth object forms the Hybrid Display.Item type:Item, A 3D Index (Delta X-3D) for Evaluating Image Quality of Stereoscopic Displays(2015-10-01) ;Chang, Yu-Cheng ;Chien, Yu-Yi ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsIn stereoscopic displays, crosstalk is typically observed when the views for both eyes are not clearly separated. Crosstalk affects the quality of 3D images and can cause visual fatigue in observers. According to the results of perception experimentation, different visual depth (disparity) and motion blur can also affect the perception of 3D image quality. Therefore, considering the effects of crosstalk, disparity, and motion blur, we propose an evaluation index to quantify 3D image performance for stereoscopic displays. This index assesses the optical quality of a 3D display as well as the effects of image content. According to human vision experimentation, the 3D image index (Delta X-3D) is validated to have a high positive correlation (0.8) with human perception. After combining the human visual mechanism and Delta X-3D, the proposed index can represent the visual quality of static and dynamic images on stereoscopic displays.Item type:Item, A Color Break-Up Suppression Method, Stencil-FSC Method, for Field-Sequential-Color(FSC) LCDs with low Power Consumption(2008) ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Lin, Fang-Cheng ;Wei, Ching-Ming ;Shieh, Han-Ping D.Tsai, Chi-ChungField sequential color liquid crystal display (FSC-LCDs) is a display without color filter, so it achieves several attractive advantages. However, it has a serious issue called color breakup (CBU), which degrades image quality and causes viewers uncomfortable. Consequently, the "Stencil-FSC" method, which utilized multi-color image in a single field, was proposed to suppress CBU. Moreover, optimizations of hardware parameters were done to get the optimal CBU suppression. Finally, the Stencil-FSC method was successfully demonstrated on a 32-inch FSC-LCD with effectively suppressed CBU, resulting contrast ratio of more than 5,500:1, and average power consumption of less than 45 Watt.Item type:Item, A Direct-View Backlight With UV Excited Trichromatic Phosphor Conversion Film(2010-04-01) ;Huang, Hsin-Tao ;Tsai, Chuang-Chuang ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所This work presents a novel ultraviolet (UV) excited flat lighting (UFL) system consisting of remote phosphor converter (RPC) for liquid-crystal display (LCD) backlight applications. Additionally, the proposed UFL backlight configuration has already been certified by a lifetime test to ensure the feasibility of proposed system in mass production.Item type:Item, A field sequential color LCD base on color field arrangement for color breakup and flicker reduction(2007) ;Hsu, Ya-Ting ;Lin, Fang-Cheng ;Chen, Chun-Ho ;Huang, Yi-PaiShieh, Han-Ping D.Field sequential color liquid crystal displays (FSC-LCDs) have several original benefits, including higher light efficiency, definition, and color saturation than those of conventional LCDs. However, FSC-LCDs are well known that the color breakup (CBU) is the serious issue needed to be solved. We have developed a new driving technique on a 5.6-inch OCB mode FSC-LCD. This proposed 4-color field arrangement (4-CFA) method can effectively eliminate the CBU of FSC-LCDs.Item type:Item, A Field Sequential Color LCD Based on Color Fields Arrangement for Color Breakup and Flicker Reduction(2009-01-01) ;Chen, Chun-Ho ;Lin, Fang-Cheng ;Hsu, Ya-Ting ;Huang, Yi-PaiShieh, Han-Ping D.The field sequential color (FSC) mechanism can effectively generate multi-primary color fields in temporal sequence to form a full-color image. Color breakup (CBU), however, has appeared intrinsically in conventional FSC displays to degrade visual qualities. A novel CBU suppression method, color fields arrangement (CFA), was proposed to eliminate the artifacts for FSC liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The modified order of consecutive color fields results in superimposed color images on a retina without CBU. Additionally, the 4-CFA method with a field rate of 240 Hz was found to avoid the flicker phenomenon on static images. The proposed method was successfully implemented on a 5.6-in optically compensated bend (OCB) LC panel. Our results confirm that the visibility of CBU artifacts can be reduced as the evaluation of dynamic and static models.Item type:Item, A Horizontal Parallax Table-top Floating Image System with Freeform Optical Film Structure(2016-01-01) ;Chou, Ping-Yen ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Liao, Chien-Chung ;Chang, Chuan-ChungChuang, Fu-Ming FlemingIn this paper, a new structure of horizontal parallax light field 3D floating image display system was proposed. With the FSC mechanism, color filters of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) can be removed to heighten the light efficiency and lower the material cost. Color breakup (CBU), however, has appeared intrinsically to degrade visual qualities. A novel gray level determination of liquid crystal and backlight (LC/BL) was proposed to suppress the CBU artifact on FSC-LCDs. Based on the image content in each frame, a dominated color-mixed field was found to minimize the color difference between the CBU and original image. Additionally, the feedback algorithm for the adaptive LC/BL signals was developed and implemented on a 32-inch optically compensated bend (OCB) mode LC panel. According to the evaluation of experiments and observations, the proposed method has been demonstrated to greatly suppress CBU in LCD applications.Item type:Item, Additional Refresh Technology (ART) of advanced-MVA(AMVA) mode for high quality LCDs(2007) ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Huang, Wei-Kai ;Tsao, Cheng-Han ;Su, Jeng-JiaHou, Hong-LungWe proposed "Additional Refresh Technology(ART)", which has the features of low color washout and fast response speed by only modifying the pixel layout.
