Item type:Item, Future home design: an emotional communication channel approach to smart space(2013-08-01) ;Huang, Yu-Chun ;Wu, Kuan-Ying ;Liu, Yu-Tung ;建築研究所Institude of ArchitectureSmart spaces use human-computer interfaces (HCIs) to improve how humans experience their surroundings. However, HCIs are sometimes less user-friendly and intuitive than their traditional counterparts. Our research aims to use every-day objects to create communication channels between spaces and people, which can then strengthen interpersonal emotional relationships through a natural and unobtrusive interface. This study explores how using simpler instruments such as a whiskey glass, a table, and an MP3 player to interact with a dwelling improves user experience in a HCI-equipped smart space. We implemented a real smart space-the Time Home Pub, which not only adjusts the environmental atmosphere (such as background lighting, music, and photos) in response to human activities but also encourages a better connection between humans, their memories, and physical space. Time Home Pub was exhibited at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2007 for the topic of Architecture of Tomorrow. Preliminary evaluations by visitors demonstrate the satisfactory feasibility of the system and how a smart space could change and improve human experiences through the use of new technology and architectural design elements.Item type:Item, How human-computer interface redefines original lifestyle in architecture?(2011-01-01) ;Huang, Yu-Chun ;建築研究所Institude of ArchitectureIn the twenty-first century, with the development of technology, architecture is not just a shelter or even "a frozen music" (by Johann Wolfgang van Goethe). Instead, architecture becomes a huge communication channel between people and space. Thus with the integration of computational technology into architecture design, the new term-"smart space" has emerged. Some researchers have applied technology into intelligent space design, such as intelligent kitchen, smart collaboration design studio and smart health care environment. Sometimes creating a fancy or an alternative smart space is not enough, the essential factor of smart space is to satisfy human needs and keep good relationship between human and space. Therefore, this research will find out what the role of human-computer interaction in smart space design is. And the purpose of this research is to present two different cases of smart space: "Time home pub" and "BCI studio" and make the analysis of the transition from traditional architecture to smart space design. Also this research further discusses how HCI redefines the functions and lifestyle of traditional architecture.Item type:Item, How human-computer interface redefines original lifestyle in architecture?(2011-01-01) ;Huang, Yu-Chun ;建築研究所Institude of ArchitectureIn the twenty-first century, with the development of technology, architecture is not just a shelter or even "a frozen music" (by Johann Wolfgang van Goethe). A noninvasive imaging modality for SLN identification with fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) would be beneficial for staging the axillary lymph nodes without surgical intervention. Here we propose a method - ultrafast pulsed magnetomotive ultrasound (pMMUS) for noninvasive SLN identification, which leverages the MRI superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIOs) and potentially offers real-time imaging capability for SLN FNAB. Ultrafast pMMUS can localize the SPIOs drained to the SLNs and thus identify the SLNs. Experiments on rats were carried out to verify the feasibility. The SLN was identified in pMMUS images which was confirmed by the methylene blue assay while it is challenging to be localized in B-mode image. Overall, we demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed ultrafast pMMUS for noninvasive SLN identification. Proper SPIO particle size, time window of imaging, and motion-tracking algorithm will be studied to further improve the performance of the proposed method.
