Item type:Item, A mist pluviation method for reconstituting silty sand specimens(2015-04-07) ;Huang, An-Bin ;Chang, Wen-Jong ;Hsu, Huai-Houh ;Huang, Yu-Jie土木工程學系A mist pluviafion (MP) technique was proposed in an effort to develop a practical method for reconstituting silty sand specimens without inducing severe particle segregation. The mist pluviation method includes both air and water pluviation processes, with the addition of a mist zone that mixes soil particles with water droplets while falling through air. The soil and water mixtures have similar particle sizes, thus resulting in significantly reduced particle segregation. A thin water layer on top of the deposited soil mimics the water deposition process, and saturates the soil with little chance for particle segregation. The performance of the MP method was evaluated with regard to homogeneity, repeatability, undrained monotonic compression, and cyclic strength of triaxial specimens with various fines contents. Results have indicated that the MP method can be a promising technique to prepare reconstituted silty sand specimens. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Sometimes, the movements are too complicated for users to learn, even by imitating the action of the coach directly. This paper presents a fully immersive augmented reality (AR) system, which provides egocentric hints to guide the arm movement of the user via a video see-through head-mounted display (HMD). By using this system, the user can perform the exactitude of arm movement simply by moving his arms to follow and match the virtual arms, rendered from coach\'s movement of database, in the first-person view. To ensure the rendered virtual arms correctly aligned with the user\'s real shoulders, a calibration method is proposed to estimate the length of the user\'s arms and the positions of his head and shoulders in advance. In addition, we apply the system to Tai-Chi-Chuan practicing, our preliminary study has shown that the proposed egocentric hints can provide intuitive guidance for users to follow the arm movement of the coach with exactitude.Item type:Item, Receiving Performance Enhancement of Active GPS Antenna with Periodic Structure(2011) ;Lin, Han-Nien ;Lin, Ke-Wen ;Kuo, Chung-Wei ;Huang, Yu-Jie電信工程研究所The purpose of this study is to design the high gain active GPS antenna module and analyze the performance improvement implemented with periodic structure. Since the utilization of high-impedance surface of periodic structures as reflector not only significantly reduces the antenna profile with phase enhancement, but it will also enhance its gain and directivity performance. We first investigated the electromagnetic radiation suppression characteristic of Electromagnetic Band-Gap (EBG) structure and utilized the microstrip measurement method to verify the simulation result for required stopband and performance. In this study, we design microstrip antenna and periodic structure with center frequency at 1.575 GHz for Global Positioning System (GPS) to investigate the effect with applications of EBG structure on antenna. Microstrip antenna has the industrial demanding characteristics of light weight, low profile, and easy integration with circuits on PCB. We investigated surface wave suppression and axial ratio improvement with the antenna surrounded by matching resonant EBG structure. Finally, we design the front-end low noise amplifier (LNA) with center frequency at 1.575 GHz to integrate with antenna to further improve GPS receiving sensitivity.
