Item type:Item, 94% Performance Improvement by Time-shift Control (TSC) Technique in Cloud Computing Voltage Regulator Module (VRM)(2013) ;Meng, Che-Hao ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Lee, Yu-HueiChen, Ke-Horngthe time-shift control (TSC) technique for voltage regulator module (VRM) is proposed to achieve high performance power supply for servers in cloud computing. Four power stages are adopted to provide high current driving capability and low output ripple. Besides, the power request, which includes the number of active phases and voltage identification (VID), is acknowledged by servers for high driving capability during high throughput and high efficiency during standby mode. Furthermore, to equally distribute the current in each phase, the proposed TSC technique improves the current balance performance and solves the stability problem. In the scale-down clouding computing prototype, the efficiency can be kept higher than 90% over a wide load current range of 2 A. Besides, the performance and operating frequency of the servers in stable operation are not limited by the VRM with the TSC.Item type:Item, A 40 Gb/s PAM-4 Receiver with 2-Tap DFE Based on Automatically Non-Even Level Tracking(2018-01-01) ;Hung, Chia-Tse ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Chen, Wei-Zen ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsA 40 Gbh PAM-4 receiver comprised of continuous-time linear equalizer (CTLE) and 2-tap decision-feedback equalizers (DFE) based on a novel level tracking circuit (ANLT) is proposed. A sign-sign LMS engine is embedded for the DFE and ANLT coefficients adaptation to accommodate different channel loss. The ANLT is capable of automatically tracking a non-evenly spaced PAM-4 signal, allowing the receiver to demodulate a distorted input with 2-bit flash ADCs. Fabricated in a TSMC 40nm CMOS technology, the whole receiver consumes 241.8 m1V at 40 Gb/s operation. Core area is 0.274mm(2).Item type:Item, Effect of rapid thermal annealing on Mg(x)Zn(1-x)O films prepared by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering(2010-07-01) ;Hsueh, Kuang-Po ;Tun, Chun-Ju ;Chiu, Hsien-Chin ;Huang, Yu-PingChi, Gou-ChungThis study investigates the effects of thermal annealing on the MgxZn1-xO films. MgxZn1-xO films were deposited by a radio-frequency magnetron sputtering system using a 6 in. ZnO/MgO (80/20wt%) target. The Hall results, x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmittance, and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were measured. The XRD results indicate that the appearance of only (111) peaks in the as-grown MgxZn1-xO film is a sign of the cubic single phase, whereas the appearance of ZnO (002) peaks in MgxZn1-xO films annealed at 700 and 800 C confirms the formation of a wurtzite single-phase crystal. The existence of a weak (002) -wurtzite peak besides the (111)-cubic peak indicates the coexistence of two phases. The absorption spectra of MgxZn1-xO annealed at 700 and 800 C show two stages at wavelengths of 357 and 261 nm. The XPS spectra of MgxZn1-xO films were also demonstrated. The results of this study show that the ZnO films were separated from MgxZn1-xO films after higher thermal annealing. c 2010 American Vacuum Society. With only one modulation controller, silicon area and power consumption caused by the replicas of controller can be reduced significantly. Current balance accuracy can be further enhanced since the mismatches between different controllers caused by process, voltage, and temperature variations are removed. Moreover, the offset cancellation control embedded in the current matching unit is used to eliminate intrinsic offset voltage existing at the operational transconductance amplifier for improved current balance. An explicit model, which contains both voltage and current balance loops with non-ideal effects, is derived for analyzing system stability. Experimental results show that current difference between each phase can be decreased by over 83% under both heavy and light load conditions.Item type:Item, Single Controller Current Balance (SCCB) Technique for Voltage-Mode Multi-Phase Buck Converter(2011) ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Lee, Yu-Huei ;Chu, Kuan-YuShih, Chun-Jena single controller current balance (SCCB) technique is proposed to achieve the time-multiplexing current balance in voltage-mode multi-phase DC-DC buck converter with only one modulation controller. Thus, the N-1 controllers can be removed when the SCCB technique is implemented in the monolithic N-phase DC-DC buck converters for largely decreasing the silicon area and power consumption. In addition, the time-multiplexing current balance scheme can further enhance the current sharing accuracy since the mismatches between different controllers does not exist. Simulated results show that the current difference between each phase can be decreased by over 80 % at both heavy load and light load conditions.Item type:Item, Time-Multiplexing Current Balance Interleaved Current-Mode Boost DC-DC Converter for Alleviating the Effects of Right-half-plane Zero(2012-09-01) ;Luo, Yean-Kuo ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Lee, Yu-HueiChen, Ke-HorngIn the present study, a time-multiplexing current balance (TMCB) current-mode boost converter is proposed to improve the transient performance. Generally, the crossover frequency of a conventional boost converter is limited to half or less than the right-half-plane (RHP) zero to ensure the system stability. The transient performance of a conventional boost converter is degraded due to its limited bandwidth. The proposed TMCB boost converter extends its bandwidth and moves the RHP zero to a higher frequency to improve the transient performance using two inductors in one channel. Besides, the small signal model of dual phase system which considers cross-couple effect and offset correction is presented. The proposed converter requires an extra inductor and a slight increase in the size of the printed circuit board layout and die size. Using time multiplexing, two inductors were operated in an interleaved phase at a switching frequency of 5 MHz rather than a single inductor system operated at a switching of 10 MHz for the same ripple required. Experimental results show that the TMCB technique is effective in correcting the mismatch in the current of the inductors even if the difference between the inductors is large. Furthermore, the proposed converter can improve the settling time from 52 to 22 mu s due to an extended bandwidth.Item type:Item, Time-Shift Current Balance Technique in Four-Phase Voltage Regulator Module with 90% Efficiency for Cloud Computing(2015-03-01) ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Chen, Wei-Chung ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Chen, Chun-YenNi, Chia-LungFour power stages for voltage regulator module (VRM) are adopted to provide high current driving capability and low output ripple in cloud computing.
