Item type:Item, An alternative formulation for certain fuzzy set-covering problems(2005-08-01) ;Chiang, CI ;Hwang, MJ ;Liu, YH ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThe fuzzy set-covering model using auxiliary 0-1 variables and a system of inequalities was developed by Hwang et al. [1]. By taking logarithm of the inequalities constraints and using the nature of the Boolean variables of this fuzzy set covering model, a simplified model is obtained. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. In this study, these concerns are formulated as a fuzzy bicriteria multi-index transportation problem. Furthermore, an effective and interactive algorithm is proposed which combines reducing index method and interactive fuzzy multi-objective linear programming technique to cope with a complicated problem which may be prevalent in other industries. Results obtained in this study clearly demonstrate that this model can not only satisfy more of the actual requirements of the integral system but also offer more information to the decision makers (DMs) for reference in favor of exalting decision making quality.Item type:Item, Fuzzy bicriteria multi-index transportation problems for coal allocation planning of Taipower(1996-11-22) ;Tzeng, GH ;Teodorovic, D ;Hwang, MJ ;運輸與物流管理系 註:原交通所+運管所Department of Transportation and Logistics ManagementTaipower, the official electricity authority of Taiwan, encounters several difficulties in planning annual coal purchase and allocation schedule, e.g., with multiple sources, multiple destinations, multiple coal types, different shipping vessels, and even in uncertain demand and supply. This approach, referred to as the Gaussian Evolutionary Method (GEM), combines both discrete and continuous global search mechanisms. The former helps speed up convergence by reducing the size of rotamer space, whereas the latter, integrating decreasing-based Gaussian mutations and self-adaptive Gaussian mutations, continuously adapts dihedrals to optimal conformations. We tested our approach on 38 proteins ranging in size from 46 to 325 residues and showed that the results were comparable to those using other methods. The average accuracies of our predictions were 80% for chi(1), 66% for chi(1+2), and 1.36 Angstrom for the root mean square deviation of side-chain positions. We found that if our scoring function was perfect, the prediction accuracy was also essentially perfect. However, perfect prediction could not be achieved if only a discrete search mechanism was applied. These results suggest that GEM is robust and can be used to examine the factors limiting the accuracy of protein side-chain prediction methods. Furthermore, it can be used to systematically evaluate and thus improve scoring functions.Item type:Item, The development of digital libraries in Taiwan(2000) ;Ke, HR ;Hwang, MJ ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityAt the opening of the twenty-first century, developments of digital libraries have been attracting the attention of many countries and Taiwan is no exception. The purpose of this article lies in delineating recent developments of digital libraries in Taiwan. This article first quotes a definition of a digital library, and based on this definition, an overview of some of the digital library programs in Taiwan is presented. These programs are divided into four categories: preservation of Chinese and Taiwanese culture, establishment of domestic research digital libraries; provision of foreign research digital libraries and integration of conventional and digital libraries.Item type:Item, VHMPT: a graphical viewer and editor for helical membrane protein topologies(1998-01-01) ;Lin, WJ ;Hwang, MJ ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMotivation: Lacking structures resolved at atomic resolution, the great majority of membrane proteins have typically been depicted in a schematic two-dimensional (2D) topology consisting of putative transmembrane domains predicted from hydropathy plots. As more and more sequences of membrane proteins become available from genome projects, there is a need to automate the process of generating the schematic topology while allowing important information, such as the individual amino acid and the extent to which it is conserved in evolution, to be conveniently inspected. We addressed this need by developing a program called VHMPT. Results: VHMPT (a graphical iewer and editor for elical line embrane rotein opologies) can automatically generate a schematic 2D topology for a protein with transmembrane helices. Through art interactive graphical interface, VHMPT allows users to modify the layout of the generated topology, label specific amino acid or amino acid groups, and annotate with arrows and texts. Given a multiple sequence alignment file, VHMPT can also color code a normalized conservation score for each amino acid on the generated topology, allowing ready visual recognition of highly conserved (or variable) topological regions. VHMPT is written in Tcl/Tk and can run on platforms that have installed the Tcl/Tk interpreter.Item type:Item, VHMPT: a graphical viewer and editor for helical membrane protein topologies(1998-01-01) ;Lin, WJ ;Hwang, MJ ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMotivation: Lacking structures resolved at atomic resolution, the great majority of membrane proteins have typically been depicted in a schematic two-dimensional (2D) topology consisting of putative transmembrane domains predicted from hydropathy plots.
