Item type:Item, Founders and the decision of Chinese dual-class IPOs in the US(2019-10-01) ;Li, Xiaodan ;Jiao, Yang ;Yu, Min-Teh ;Zhao, Yang資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所This study collects data on IPOs of U.S.-listed Chinese companies from 2000 to 2015 and explores why some of these firms deviate from the one share-one vote regime when going public. Our results identify "founder's influence" and "e-businesses" as two key determinants of dual-class IPOs that have not been found in the previous literature. The significance of the effect of fundraising for long-term investments as found in the literature and this study disappears when comparing these two new determinants together. We also provide empirical evidence that managers adopt a dual-class share structure in order to retain control and to diversify the risk of their own wealth, and that there is no significant performance difference between dual-class firms and single-class firms after IPOs.Item type:Item, Glutathione boosting the cytotoxicity of a magnetic platinum(IV) nano-prodrug in tumor cells(2016-01-01) ;Zhu, Zhenzhu ;Wang, Zenghui ;Hao, Yigang ;Zhu, ChengchengJiao, YangSuperparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are potential vehicles for targeted drug delivery and viable contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A Pt-IV prodrug (HSPt) derived from functionalization of cisplatin with hydroxyl and succinate is conjugated with a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-modified SPION for cancer therapy and monitoring of therapeutic responses. The relaxivity of HSPt-PEG-SPIONs is larger than that of commercial contrast agent Feridex, and a tumor-selective negative contrast is observed in MRI in a magnetic field. HSPt-PEG-SPIONs can be dissociated and reduced into PtII species by glutathione (GSH). Instead of forming DNA-Pt crosslinks, the reduced product induces direct DNA single- or double-strand breaks, which is uncommon for Pt drugs. The cytotoxicity of HSPt-PEG-SPIONs is positively correlated with the GSH level of tumor cells, which is opposite to the scenario of current Pt drugs. HSPt-PEG-SPIONs are as cytotoxic as cisplatin against cancer cells but are almost nontoxic towards normal cells. Since the mechanism of action of the nanocomposite is different from the established paradigm for Pt drugs, it may become a special theranostic agent for cancer treatment.
