Item type:Item, A PROCEDURE FOR PROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS OF NONLINEAR STRUCTURES(1990) ;KAM, TY ;LIN, SC ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF IMPERFECT FRAMES USING A STOCHASTIC FINITE-ELEMENT METHOD(1992-03-17) ;LIN, SC ;KAM, TY ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA stochastic finite element method is developed for the buckling analysis of frames with random initial imperfections, uncertain sectional and material properties. The random geometrical imperfections of the frames are described by member initial crookednesses which are modeled as given initial displacement functions with amplitudes treated as random variables. The effects of the random initial geometric imperfections are formulated as a set of equivalent random nodal coordinates in the finite element discretization of the members. The mean-centered second-order perturbation technique is used to formulate the stochastic finite element method for the buckling analysis of the imperfect frames. Use of the present method is illustrated by several examples of buckling analysis of random frames. Results derived from the Monte Carlo method are also obtained for comparison.Item type:Item, BUCKLING FAILURE PROBABILITY OF IMPERFECT ELASTIC FRAMES(1992-07-17) ;LIN, SC ;KAM, TY ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringProbabilistic buckling failure of random imperfect frames is studied via the stochastic finite clement method. The statistics of buckling strengths of elastic frames with random initial imperfections, uncertain sectional and material properties are inferred from the statistics of the basic system parameters through the utilization of the stochastic finite element method. The effects of variations in geometric imperfections, sectional and material properties on variation in buckling strength are investigated. The failure probability of imperfect frames consisting of random system parameters subject to random loads is computed in load space. Factors affecting the reliability of the frames are identified and discussed. It was found that sectional properties, the shape of geometric imperfection, and the magnitude of imperfection may have important effects on frame reliability.Item type:Item, BUCKLING OF SHEAR DEFORMABLE LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES(1992) ;KAM, TY ;CHANG, RR ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA shear deformable finite element is developed for the buckling analysis of laminated composite plates. Measured natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure with or without a crack are used to compute the strain energies of the structures subject to free vibration via a quasi-static approach. The two types of strain energy are then combined with the work required for the crack formation to construct the energy balance equation from which the size of the crack is evaluated through an iteration procedure. The theory of fracture mechanics is used to derive the work required for crack formation. Examples of the identification of crack sizes for a number of damaged beam structures are given to illustrate the applications of the proposed expanded mode method. Factors affecting the accuracy of crack size identification are investigated using a cracked cantilever beam as an example. The results show that the present method is promising for practical applications.Item type:Item, DESIGN OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES FOR MAXIMUM BUCKLING LOAD AND VIBRATION FREQUENCY(1993-07-01) ;KAM, TY ;CHANG, RR ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityThe optimal lamination arrangement of thick laminated composite plates for maximum buckling load and vibration frequency is studied via a multi-start global optimization technique. The structure is discretized into a set of elements and the crack is assumed to be located within one of the elements. Measured vibration frequencies and mode shapes are used in an identification process to identify the cracked element based on a simple reduced stiffness model. Static deflection analyses of the structure with and without a crack are performed and a strain energy equilibrium equation is constructed for determining the size of the crack. The detection of a crack on a damaged beam is used to illustrate the applications of the proposed procedure. The present procedure is general and can be easily extended to complex structures with multiple cracks.Item type:Item, FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF SHEAR DEFORMABLE LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES(1993-03-01) ;KAM, TY ;CHANG, RR ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA shear deformable finite element is developed for the analysis of thick laminated composite plates. The method which is developed from the von Karman-Mindlin plate theory and the Ritz method is used to construct the nonlinear load-deflection curves of the composite plates with or without considering the reduction in plate stiffness induced by ply failure and predict the first-ply failure loads of the plates based on various commonly used strength-of-material type failure criteria. Experiments on laminated composite plates loaded to failure are performed to construct the experimental load-displacement curves of the plates. During testing, the first-ply failure loads of the plates are identified using the acoustic emission technique. The experimental results are used to investigate the capabilities of the present method in predicting the nonlinear behaviors and first-ply failure loads of the laminated composite plates. It has been found that when compared with the experimental load-deflection curves the present method with the consideration of stiffness reduction can yield reasonable results on load-deflection curve and even for some cases the ultimate strength. As for the determination of first-ply failure load, the inconsistent results predicted by the adopted failure criteria indicate that the strength-of-material approach may be inappropriate for the first-ply failure analysis of laminated composite plates. Hence, more research on failure mechanism and, especially, the development of appropriate failure criteria for composite laminates is needed.Item type:Item, NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF INELASTIC STEEL PLANE FRAMES(1988) ;KAM, TY ;LIN, SC ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS OF STEEL PLANE FRAMES WITH INITIAL IMPERFECTIONS(1986) ;KAM, TY ;LEE, FS ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS OF TUBULAR STEEL FRAMED STRUCTURES(1989) ;KAM, TY ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, OPTIMAL PARAMERERS FOR CURING GRAPHITE-EPOXY COMPOSITE LAMINATES(1995-01-15) ;KAM, TY ;LAI, FM ;SHER, HF ;交大名義發表機械工程學系The optimal curing parameters of a cure cycle for achieving maximum mechanical properties of Gr/ep composite laminates are determined via a multi-level optimization approach.
