Item type:Item, A STUDY OF HARMONIC DISTORTIONS AND PERIOD DOUBLING IN DFB RIDGE WAVE-GUIDE LASER WITH STRONG CURRENT MODULATION(1992-04-01) ;KAO, YH ;LIN, HT ;傳播研究所 ;電信研究中心Institute of Communication StudiesWe report measurements of the harmonic distortions and period doubling (PD) in a 1.55-mu-m InGaAsP DFB laser under sinusoidal current modulation. It is found that most degradation of the modulated signal occurring with frequency near the submultiples of relaxation frequency is only for small-signal operation and is violated under large-signal operation. The dynamics can be satisfactorily predicted by employing the Tucker's large-signal model [Tucker and Kaminow, J. Lightwave Technol. LT-2 (1984) 385.].Item type:Item, ANALOG STUDY OF BIFURCATION STRUCTURES IN A VANDERPOL OSCILLATOR WITH A NONLINEAR RESTORING FORCE(1993-10-01) ;KAO, YH ;WANG, CS ;電信工程研究所 ;光電工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThe injection locking and chaotic transitions in a Van der Pol oscillator with a nonlinear-restoring-force term were investigated in this article via an electronic circuit. Three types of locking processes were differentiated from each other in light of local and global bifurcations. The influences of the nonlinear restoring force on the bifurcation structure were also discussed.Item type:Item, BIFURCATION STRUCTURE OF THE DUFFING OSCILLATOR WITH ASYMMETRICAL POTENTIAL WELL(1989-03-27) ;HUANG, JC ;KAO, YH ;WANG, CS ;GOU, YS電子物理學系Item type:Item, INFLUENCES OF HARMONIC COUPLING ON BIFURCATIONS IN DUFFING OSCILLATOR WITH BOUNDED POTENTIAL WELL(1992-11-22) ;KAO, YH ;WANG, CS ;YANG, TH ;電信工程研究所光電工程學系Item type:Item, INFLUENCES OF NOISE ON THE OCCURRENCE OF PERIOD-DOUBLING IN DISTRIBUTED-FEEDBACK LASER-DIODES UNDER DIRECT-CURRENT MODULATION(1993-10-20) ;KAO, YH ;LIN, HT ;傳播研究所 ;電信研究中心Institute of Communication StudiesThe influences of Langevin noise on period doubling (PD) of a strongly modulated distributed-feedback laser have been investigated. The onset of PD was confirmed to be reduced through the use of the rate equations as a model. The threshold values of PD were examined in terms of driving frequency and rf power and have been compared with the measurements of PD.Item type:Item, INSTABILITY IN SURFACE EMITTING LASERS DUE TO EXTERNAL OPTICAL FEEDBACK(1993-01-01) ;CHEN, HM ;TAI, K ;HUANG, KF ;KAO, YHWYNN, JDInstability in the output of dc-biased surface emitting lasers due to an external cavity effect was observed. The output power spectrum exhibited multiple peaks with spacing corresponding to exactly the round-trip delay in silica fibers with length ranging from 2 m to 2 km. The magnitude of the peaks was enhanced in the spectral region centered at the laser relaxation frequency. With increased feedback, the background of the output spectrum was found to increase, indicating the presence of optical chaos. Numerical simulation based on the rate equation analysis was found to agree with the experiment, indicating the surface emitting lasers are well described by the rate equation and are susceptible to feedback as the edge emitting lasers.Item type:Item, MODE DESCRIPTION OF ROUTES TO CHAOS IN EXTERNAL-CAVITY COUPLED SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS(1994-08-01) ;KAO, YH ;WANG, NM ;CHEN, HM ;電信工程研究所電信研究中心The nonlinear behaviors of routes to chaos in semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback were explored in this work. It was indicated that the relaxation oscillation was the origin of the first nonlinear instability of optical intensity under a short delay. Three types of transition routes with quasi-periodic, subharmonic oscillation, and periodic doubling to optical chaos were distinguished in terms of the delay time normalized to the inverse of the relaxation oscillation frequency of a solitary laser diode. The linearized mode theory and small-signal response were confirmed as part of the phenomena in the transitions to chaos.Item type:Item, NOISE ENHANCEMENT OF PERIOD DOUBLING IN STRONGLY MODULATED SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS(1992-07-01) ;KAO, YH ;LIN, HT ;WANG, CS ;電信工程研究所光電工程學系In this paper the phenomena of period doubling and bistability of multiple spiking states in deeply modulated laser diodes are investigated. The situations of in which the period doubling in the parameter space occurs are indicated. The influence of noise on the period doubling is examined by employing the singl-mode rate equations with Langevin noise.Item type:Item, OBSERVATIONS OF A BIFURCATION STRUCTURE IN A RF-DRIVEN SEMICONDUCTOR-LASER USING AN ELECTRONIC SIMULATOR(1992-01-01) ;KAO, YH ;TSAI, CH ;WANG, CS ;電信工程研究所光電工程學系This article presents a realization of electronic circuit to examine the dynamics of the rate equations for a directly modulated semiconductor laser. The dynamic transitions are characterized by observing the phase portraits and time evolutions of photon density and carrier density. Under the proper conditions of modulation depth and modulation frequency, the system reveals the period doubling route and bistability in various resonant regions. These are also confirmed by the numerical simulations.Item type:Item, PERSISTENT PROPERTIES OF CRISES IN A DUFFING OSCILLATOR(1987-06-15) ;KAO, YH ;HUANG, JC ;GOU, YS ;電子物理學系電信工程研究所Item type:Item, PERSISTENT PROPERTIES OF PERIOD-DOUBLING IN DIRECTLY MODULATED SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS(1993-09-01) ;KAO, YH ;LIN, HT ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringIn this paper the inherent properties of period-doubling behavior in deeply modulated laser diodes were investigated. The thresholds for the period doubling in terms of the controlling parameters were indicated. With the consideration of Langevin noise in the single-mode rate equations, it was indicated that the noise acted as a virtual Hopf precursor for the event of period doubling. The linewidth and frequency shifting of the noise bump were predicted by Floquet multipliers. Finally, a comparison of the noise bumps obtained from the simulated and analytic methods was also presented.Item type:Item, PHYSICAL-PROPERTIES OF TRANSITION TO CHAOS IN RF-DRIVEN JOSEPHSON JUNCTION ANALOG(1986-05-01) ;KAO, YH ;HUANG, JC ;GOU, YS ;電子物理學系電控工程研究所Item type:Item, POTENTIAL DEPENDENCE OF THE BIFURCATION STRUCTURE IN GENERALIZED DUFFING OSCILLATORS(1992-03-15) ;WANG, CS ;KAO, YH ;HUANG, JC ;GOU, YS電子物理學系The features of various bifurcations in forced Duffing oscillators are extensively investigated by means of numerical simulation. Some common features in four types of potential well are found. With reference to the transition boundaries in parameter space, the influences of local symmetry properties of the potential well on the bifurcation routes are indicated and definite functional forms of the border line in omega-k space separating the region with simple stable period-1 solutions from the region with complicated solutions are determined. A method combining Floquet theory with harmonic balance is presented to describe the mechanism of the transitions.Item type:Item, ROUTES TO CHAOS IN THE DUFFING OSCILLATOR WITH A SINGLE POTENTIAL WELL(1988-08-08) ;KAO, YH ;HUANG, JC ;GOU, YS ;電子物理學系電控工程研究所Item type:Item, VIRTUAL HOPF PRECURSOR OF PERIOD-DOUBLING ROUTE IN DIRECTLY MODULATED SEMICONDUCTOR-LASERS(1993-06-01) ;KAO, YH ;LIN, HT ;電信工程研究所 ;電信研究中心Institute of Communications EngineeringIn this paper the noise effects on the period-doubling route in deeply modulated laser diodes were investigated. The dynamics were studied by employing the single-mode rate equations with consideration of Langevin noise. It was identified that the period-doubling event in laser diodes had a virtual Hopf precursor and was enhanced by the existed Langevin noise.
