Item type:Item, A Hardware Design for Portable Continuous Wave Diffuse Optical Tomography(2010) ;Kang, Shih ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Fu, Chih-Chung ;Chua, EricsonHsu, Yuan-HuangIn recent years, the rapid development of diffuse optical tomography (DOT) technology has made possible many successful applications in the field of biomedicine, such as breast cancer detection and observation of oxygenated hemoglobin distribution in the brain. In this work, we build an inexpensive and portable real-time continuous wave near-infrared (CW-NIR) DOT system hardware suitable for use in system on a chip (SOC) applications. With greatly reduced system volume, the system can pave the way for practical developments in the clinical setting. The proposed system processes digitized biomedical signals acquired from a front-end sensor circuit, and can operate in either continuous or discontinuous mode according to user settings. Finally, we demonstrate the improvements in image reconstruction associated with the two-dimensional (2D) post-processing technique employed in the proposed system.Item type:Item, A Highly-Integrated Biomedical Multiprocessor System for Portable Brain-Heart Monitoring(2011) ;Chua, Ericson ;Fang, Wai-Chi ;Chen, Chiu-Kuo ;Fu, Chih ChungTseng, Shao-YenIn this paper, a highly-integrated multiprocessor chip design enabling the real-time processing of biomedical signals in portable brain-heart monitoring systems is presented. The architecture comprises a novel diffuse optical tomography (DOT) processor for taking brain imaging, an independent component analysis (ICA) processor for removing artifacts of brain electroencephalogram (EEG) signals, and a heart rate variability (HRV) analysis processor for monitoring heart electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The multiprocessor chip implemented in 65nm CMOS technology comprises 368k gates and occupies a core area of 462k mu m(2). Simulated power consumption using a full operation test case reports 3.6mW under the condition of 1.0V core supply voltage and 24MHz clock operating frequency.Item type:Item, A Portable 2-D Oximeter Image System Design for Breast Foreign Tissue Detection(2012) ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Kang, Shih ;Chen, Tien-HoFang, Wai-ChiMany studies of two dimensional (2D) oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction have recently been conducted. However, these studies use powerful computers or large mainframes which are impractical for home health care systems. This paper proposes a 2D, portable, low-cost, real-time oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction system to detect breast cancer, making early detection possible. The system is implemented on FPGA with front-end sensors and display devices. The functionality of the system is verified using a phantom which presents breast tissue.Item type:Item, A SoC Design for Portable 2-Dimension Oximeter Image System(2012) ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Kang, Shih ;Chen, Tien-HoFang, Wai-ChiIn recent years, many studies of 2-D oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction have provided easy access to human brain activity regions. However, only a few research focus on the home health care system using this technique. In this paper, we proposed a portable, low cost and real-time distribution reconstruction system of oxygen saturation in 2-D to make diagnosis at home possible. The system has been implemented in hardware as an oxygen saturation processor and verified on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Furthermore, we also introduce an image post processing unit to enhance the reconstruction result. Finally, we show that our system can recognize the variation of oxygen saturation region with high precision in detection tissue.Item type:Item, Live Demonstration: An FPGA-Based Continuous Wave Diffuse Optical Tomography System(2012) ;Kang, Shih ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Fang, Wai-ChiKao, Wen-ChungThis work provides an FPGA-based continuous wave diffuse optical tomography (CW-DOT) system for tumor detection and oxygen concentration measurement. According to user's parameter setting, the proposed system can solve image reconstruction of absorption coefficient at the wavelengths of 735nm and 890nm in analytes, and oxygen concentration through the proposed image reconstruction engine in real-time. Meanwhile, the reconstruction image will be wirelessly transmitted to a remote platform for image display. Also, the whole system comprises front-end circuit for analog data acquiring, digital signal processing and an image display platform as a prototype of a healthcare monitory system.Item type:Item, Portable Brain-Heart Monitoring System(2010) ;Fu, Chih-Chung ;Chen, Chiu-Kuo ;Tseng, Shao-Yen ;Kang, ShihChua, EricsonA portable brain-heart monitoring system is proposed to integrate and miniaturize those heavy equipments in the hospitals. The system comprises a 4-channel independent component analysis (ICA) engine for artifact removal from EEG, a heart-rate variability (HRV) analysis engine for on-line HRV analysis and a diffuse optical tomography (DOT) engine for reconstruction of the absorption coefficient image of the brain tissue. A lossless compression module achieves 2.5 compression ratio is also employed to reduce the power consumption of the wireless transmission. EEG, EKG and near-infrared signals acquired from the analog front-end IC are processed in real-time or bypassed according to user configurations. Processed data and raw data are compressed and sent to a remote science station by a commercial Bluetooth module for further analysis and 3-D visualization and remote diagnosis. The ICA and HRV engine are verified by real EEG and EKG signals while the DOT engine is verified by an experimental model. The system is implemented using UMC 65nm CMOS technology, and the core size is 680x680 um(2), and the estimated power consumption of the chip working at 24 MHz under full mode is 3.6 mW.Item type:Item, Portable SoC Design for CW Diffusion Optical Tomography(2012) ;Kang, Shih ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Fang, Wai-Chi電子工程學系及電子研究所In this paper, a digital signal processing system for image reconstruction of continuous wave diffusion optical tomography (CW-DOT) is proposed. Recently, Hsiang-Shih proposed a remote user authentication scheme for multi-server environment as an improved scheme over Liao and Wang's scheme, and asserted that their scheme can escape from masquerade attack, server spoofing attack, etc. In this paper, we show that Hsiang and Shih's scheme still suffers from masquerade attack. To mend the problem, we offer a three-tier authentication using smart card procedure with dynamic ID and Diffie-Hellman's method to improve Hsiang- Shih's insecure scheme. Our scheme is suitable for applications with higher security requirement.
