Item type:Item, An XML-based context-aware transformation framework for mobile execution environments(2003) ;Kao, TH ;Shen, SP ;Yuan, SM ;Cheng, PW資訊工程學系We propose an XML-based Context-Aware transformation Framework (X-CAF). In X-CAF, we design three main techniques - (1) an XML-based programming model to program applications, (2) a user interface adaptation mechanism to adjust UIs of applications, and (3) a transformation scheme to transform programs adapt to various MExE environments. Moreover, we design two methods, Static-time Component Generation and Runtime XUL Transformation for transforming efficiently and flexibility. Through applying these techniques, this framework may make applications device-independent.Item type:Item, Automatic adaptation of mobile applications to different user devices using modular mobile agents(2005-11-25) ;Kao, TH ;Yuan, SM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceWearable, handheld, and embedded or standalone intelligent devices are becoming quite common and can support a diverse range of applications. In order to simplify development of applications which can adapt to a variety of mobile devices, we propose an adaptation framework which includes three techniques: follow-me, context-aware adaptation, and remote control scheme. For the first, we construct a personal agent capable of carrying its owner's applications. Second, we design a personal agent capable of carrying applications with an adaptable hierarchical structure. Then, applications can be adapted approximately to the context of devices by using an attribute-based component decision algorithm. Finally, to achieve a remote control scheme, we distribute the computational load of applications on the resource-restricted mobile devices. An application is divided into two parts that can be executed on a user device and a server separately. In short, this framework facilitates the development of widespread applications for ubiquitous computing environments. Furthermore, it enables the applications to follow their owners and automatically adapt to different devices. There are several kinds of mobile execution environments (MExE) built on these appliances, such as WAP, J2ME, PJava, and Microsoft CLI. It is difficult for programmers to write a program only once and then execute it on these mobile devices. The primary reason is there are a variety of devices with different runtime environments and diverse hardware/software capabilities. Therefore, in order to accomplish the following: (1) applications can be designed regardless of what kind of the target mobile device belongs to; (2) the program of an application can be automatically adapted to the target MExE environments. We propose an XML-based Context-Aware transformation Framework (X-CAF). In this framework, we design an XML-based programming model to divide programmers into two roles, user interface (UI) designer and logic programmer, so as to efficiently develop an application in separation-of-concern way. Besides, we exploit the XSLT/XPath transformation mechanism to transform documents of XML User-interface Language (XUL) and LoGic Markup Language (LGML) into others of the target MExE languages by means of the context information, device capabilities and user preferences. Moreover, to generate codes of the applications flexibly and efficiently, we divide the code processing of an application into that of the user interface occurring at runtime and that of the event-handling logic occurring at static time. In brief, our paper contributes an XML-based application development environment and transformation framework to the access to device independence. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. The method is based on modeling the magnetic microactuator using the finite element analysis software that can be used to calculate the energy density and magnetic force. Here, the concept of design on experiments (DOE) is used to identify critical parameters that affect the performances of the electromagnetic microactuator. Numerical simulation results from a series of DOE have indicated that the dimension of core and the magnetic material block have the influence on planar electromagnetic actuators. When the length of the magnetic components is equal to that of outer diameter of coil circuit, we obtain the best efficiency in magnetic force. Furthermore, when we increase the thickness of the magnetic materials block or shorten the distance between the coils and magnetic material block, the magnetic force will increase dramatically. In addition, we can achieve a great magnetic force when the combination ratio of the length of the core is half of the magnetic material block. Simulation results have shown that electromagnetic actuators with high aspect ratio planar coil could sustain higher electrical current that consequently increases the magnetic force. During the realistic fabrication, the thick resist patterning and electroplating technologies is used to fabricate:the above-mentioned electromagnetic microactuator. Experimental results indicated that the magnetic force follows closely to the simulation results.Item type:Item, PUML and PGML: Device-independent UI and logic markup languages on small and mobile appliances(2005) ;Kao, TH ;Chen, YY ;Tsai, TH ;Chou, HJLin, WHTo accomplish developing mobile web applications on variety of mobile execution environments, we propose Pervasive User interface Markup Language (PUML) describing user interfaces for applications on the small devices, and Pervasive loGic Markup Language (PGML) representing the computational logic of the applications. Furthermore, we exploit the XSLT/XPath transformation mechanism to transform documents of PUML/PGML into the target languages, and evaluate them by implementing toolkit and runtime service applications. In Brief, our paper contributes an XML-based application model to assist mobile application developers.
