Item type:Item, Arbitrary waveform synthesis by multiple harmonics generation and phasing in aperiodic optical superlattices(2009-08-31) ;Lin, Wei-Hsun ;Kung, A. H. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsThe process of generating periodic optical waveforms includes the generation and phasing of several harmonics of a fundamental frequency. In this work, we show that simultaneous generation and phasing of the harmonics can be performed in a monolithic aperiodic optical superlattice (AOS). Stable periodic waveforms can thus be delivered to a predetermined location by simply sending a laser beam through a properly designed and fabricated AOS crystal. A detailed mathematical description for generating the domain pattern in such an AOS crystal is given and the process is numerically demonstrated. The waveform that is generated from a monolithic AOS is highly reproducible and phase stable. We also use propagation in air as an example to show how any predictable phase and amplitude modifications such as air dispersion that will alter the desired waveform can be pre-compensated in the design phase of the AOS crystal. For the intermediate states of 5s ', 7s ', and 8s, the np ' ([1/2](0) and [3/2](2)) series are observed with high intensity but not the np ' ([1/2](1) and [3/2](1)) series when the polarization vectors of two light beams are in parallel; but when they are in orthogonal, the np '[1/2](0) series disappears, the np '[3/2](2) intensity remains, and the np ' ([1/2](1) and [3/2](1)) series show up strongly. The intensity distribution of the np ' series strongly depends on the intermediate state. The spectra of the np ' series are assigned according to their intensity variation with the polarization vectors. The quantum defects determined for the series np '[1/2](0)(n=11-57), np '[312](2)(n=11-65), np '[3/2](1)(n=11-31), and nf '[5/2](2)(n=9-74) are 1.611 +/- 0.011, 1.683 +/- 0.013, 1.688 +/- 0.010, and 0.016 +/- 0.005, respectively. Our values are in excellent agreement with theoretical prediction. The spectral line shapes of autoionizing Rydberg states are analyzed with a Beutler-Fano profile. Reduced autoionization linewidths for the np '[1/2](0)(n= 11-16) series vary in the range 2549-4145 cm(-1), and the nf '[5/2](2)(n=9-11) series in 186-247 cm(-1) in reasonable agreement with theoretical prediction.Item type:Item, Broadly tunable mW level UV light generated by intracavity SFG in a compact high-Q PPMgSLT OPO(2007) ;Tu, Shih-Yu ;Kung, A. H. ;Kurimura, Sunao ;Ikegami, Takeshi光電工程學系A compact tunable UV laser source based on intracavity sum frequency generation in a MgO-doped periodically-poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate optical parametric oscillator is reported. UV output at an similar to 1 mW level of power over the range of 364 to 378 nm with a bandwidth of 0.5 nm was obtained with a crystal that has just one periodically-poled grating period. The full tuning range can be as much as similar to 68 nm, from 324 to 392 nm by varying the crystal temperature from room temperature to 250 degrees C. This will cover nearly the entire UVA range. We generated the comb by adiabatically driving a molecular vibrational coherence with a beam at a fundamental frequency plus its second harmonic. Heterodyne measurements show that full interpulse phase locking of the comb components is realized. The results set the stage for the synthesis of periodic arbitrary waveforms in the femtosecond and subfemtosecond regimes with full control.Item type:Item, Dissociation of heme from gaseous myoglobin ions studied by infrared multiphoton dissociation spectroscopy and Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(2006-10-07) ;Wang, Yi-Sheng ;Sabu, Sahadevan ;Wei, Shih-Chia ;Kao, C. -M. JoshKong, XiangleiDetachment of heme prosthetic groups from gaseous myoglobin ions has been studied by collision-induced dissociation and infrared multiphoton dissociation in combination with Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. Multiply charged holomyoglobin ions (hMb(n+)) were generated by electrospray ionization and transferred to an ion cyclotron resonance cell, where the ions of interest were isolated and fragmented by either collision with Ar atoms or irradiation with 3 mu m photons, producing apomyoglobin ions (aMb(n+)). Both charged heme loss (with [Fe(III)-heme](+) and aMb((n-1)+) as the products) and neutral heme loss (with [Fe(II)-heme] and aMb(n+) as the products) were detected concurrently for hMb(n+) produced from a myoglobin solution pretreated with reducing reagents. By reference to E-a=0.9 eV determined by blackbody infrared radiative dissociation for charged heme loss of ferric hMb(n+), an activation energy of 1.1 eV was deduced for neutral heme loss of ferrous hMb(n+) with n=9 and 10. At a domain pitch of 15.45 mu m, the SHG signal and its fundamental signal at 1423.9 nm can satisfy the third-order SFG quasi-phase-matched (QPM) condition. The measured SHG power at 714.2 nm was 12.25 mW under 100 mW input power, and the estimated nonlinear coefficient (d(33)) achieved was 25.3 pm/V. The self-cascaded SHG+SFG power measured at 477.1 nm was similar to 700 mu W under 350 mW input power. The maximum internal efficiency of the SHG is 14.84%. The tuning range of the self-cascaded SHG and SFG generated tunable blue-green light was more than 40 nm, from 471.3 to 515 nm. The maximum simulated 3 dB bandwidth achieved using a gradient-period QPM structure is 196 nm, which is from 1476 to 1672 nm. The gain-bandwidth product of the self-cascaded SHG and SFG processes decreases drastically as the bandwidth is broadened. H.We report a new type of phase-change materials based upon the compound of In-Ga-O. It is found to exhibit two-order of magnitude resistivity change between the high-resistive amorphous phase and the low-resistive cubic phase at a phase-change temperature similar to 250 degrees C. When the In-Ga-O is incorporated into a nonvolatile phase change memory (PCM) device with a double-heater (DH) structure, it exhibits an on/off resistance ratio of 1000 and cycling over 300 times which are superior to those observed on a single-heater (SH) PCM device. These results, together with a low bias point of 70 mu A at 6.5 volt and 1.5mA at 3.5 volt, respectively, for set/ reset operation of the DH-PCM device to the crystalline/amorphous state, suggest that In-Ga-O is a promising material candidate for low power application of PCM devices.Item type:Item, Monolithic red-green-blue laser light source based on cascaded wavelength conversion in periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate(2006-10-30) ;Gao, Z. H.We report repetitive phase-change memory (PCM) activity via the high- to low-resistance state transition in gallium-doped indium oxide (Ga:InO) induced by nanosecond electric pulses. The amorphous-to-crystalline phase transition of Ga:InO is found to occur at a crystallization temperature of similar to 250 degrees C with an activation energy of 1.27 +/- 0.07 eV. At the phase transition, we observe a change in two orders of magnitude in the PCM-device resistance, which can be correlated with the formation of (211) and {222} crystallites of bixbyite cubic In(2)O(3). We ascribe the phase-change mechanism to the Joule heating effect in Ga:InO.Item type:Item, Pulse Shaper Assisted Characterization of Single-cycle Optical Pulses(2009) ;Hsieh, Zhi-Ming ;Lai, Chien-Jen ;Liang, Wei-Hong ;Tang, Tsung-TaChen, Wei-JanShaper-assisted autocorrelation is developed to characterize single-cycle pulses.
