Item type:Item, A UNIFIED APPROACH TO SCRAMBLING FILTER DESIGN(1995-08-01) ;KING, CW ;LIN, CA ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringMost speech scrambling systems are either linear periodic filters or can be modeled as such, It is well-known that from an input-output point of view, a periodic filter is equivalent to a multi-input multi-output linear time-invariant system and thus a rational transfer matrix, In this paper, we propose a framework, based on transfer matrices and frequency domain descriptions, for analysis and design of speech scrambling filters, We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for a scrambling system to be insensitive to frame synchronization error, We propose a procedure for the design of scrambling filters that are insensitive to synchronization error and have zero bandwidth expansion. An illustrative design example is given.Item type:Item, CONTROLLER-DESIGN FOR LINEAR-MULTIVARIABLE SYSTEMS WITH PERIODIC INPUTS(1992-01-01) ;LIN, CA ;HO, SJ ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThe authors propose a controller design method for linear multivariable systems with periodic inputs. The periodic inputs may have different periods in different input channels. The plant is assumed to be minimum phase but may be unstable. In addition to achieving closed-loop stability and input-output decoupling, the design is to satisfy prespecified bounds on relative steady-state tracking error and sensitivity function. The paper shows that, for minimum phase plants, it is possible to achieve arbitrarily small sensitivity over large bandwidth and arbitrarily small (integral square) tracking error for piecewise continuous periodic inputs in each channel. The paper proposes a design algorithm and gives an illustrative example.Item type:Item, COVARIANCE ANALYSIS ALGORITHM FOR INTERCONNECTED SYSTEMS(1991-03-01) ;CURLEY, RD ;CHENG, VHL ;LIN, CA ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe present in this paper a covariance analysis algorithm for propagation of signal statistics in arbitrarily interconnected nonlinear hybrid systems, applied to six-degree-of-freedom systems specifically in our work. The algorithm uses statistical linearization theory to linearize the nonlinear subsystems, and the resulting linearized subsystems are considered in the original interconnection framework for propagation of the signal statistics. We shall refer to some nonlinearities commonly encountered in six-degree-of-freedom space-vehicle models to illustrate the limitations of this method, along with problems not encountered in standard deterministic simulation analysis. Moreover, we shall exhibit the performance of the algorithm numerically by comparing results from such techniques to results from Monte-Carlo analysis results, both applied to a simple two-dimensional space-intercept problem.Item type:Item, DECOUPLING CONTROLLER-DESIGN FOR LINEAR-MULTIVARIABLE PLANTS(1991-04-01) ;LIN, CA ;HSIEH, TF ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe study decoupling controller design for linear time-invariant square MIMO plants under the unity-feedback configuration. For plants with no coincidences of unstable poles and zeros, we give a simplified necessary and sufficient condition for closed-loop stability. The simplified condition leads to a simple parametrization of the set of all achievable decoupled I/O maps and an algorithm which allows the design of decoupling controllers to achieve preassigned closed-loop poles.Item type:Item, DECOUPLING CONTROLLER-DESIGN FOR LINEAR-MULTIVARIABLE SYSTEMS WITH PERIODIC INPUTS(1995-06-01) ;HO, SJ ;LIN, CA ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe propose a decoupling controller design method for linear multivariable systems with periodic inputs. The plant may be nonminimum phase, and the periodic inputs may have different periods in different input channels. In addition to achieving closed-loop stability and input-output decoupling, the design is to satisfy prespecified sensitivity bound and tracking error bound for a class of periodic inputs in each channel. With the proposed design approach, an n-channel MIMO design problem is reduced to n SISO ones in which design specifications can be independently achieved. A design algorithm is proposed, and an illustrative example is given.Item type:Item, INVERTING PERIODIC FILTERS(1994-01-01) ;LIN, CA ;KING, CW ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe consider linear periodic filters. We give simple necessary and sufficient conditions for the filter to be invertible and a simple formula to compute its inverse. If the filter is not invertible, we propose a method to compute its optimal approximate inverse. An illustrative example is given.Item type:Item, MINIMAL PERIODIC REALIZATIONS OF TRANSFER-MATRICES(1993-03-01) ;LIN, CA ;KING, CW ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringPeriodic controllers designed based on the so-called lifting technique are usually represented by transfer matrices. Real-time operations require that the controllers be implemented as periodic systems. We study the problem of realizing an Nn(o) X Nn(i) proper rational transfer matrix as an n(i)-input n(o)-output N-periodic discrete-time system. We propose an algorithm to obtain periodic realizations which have a minimal number of states. The result can also be used to remove any redundant states that exist in a periodic system.Item type:Item, MODEL-REDUCTION VIA FREQUENCY WEIGHTED BALANCED REALIZATION(1992-06-01) ;LIN, CA ;CHIU, TY ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe propose a model reduction method for multi-input multi-output linear time-invariant systems based on frequency weighting and balanced realization. We show that with both input-weighting and output-weighting, the method yields stable reduced order model, provided that the full order model is stable. Examples show the effectiveness of frequency weighting. Finally, our results are compared with those obtained by other frequency weighted model reduction methods.Item type:Item, OPTIMIZATION-BASED CONTROL-SYSTEM DESIGN(1990) ;LIN, CA ;CHEN, SH ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringItem type:Item, STABILIZATION, PARAMETERIZATION, AND DECOUPLING CONTROLLER-DESIGN FOR LINEAR-MULTIVARIABLE SYSTEMS(1993-04-01) ;LIN, CA ;HSIEH, TF ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringWe study linear multivariable systems under the unity-feedback configuration. For nonsquare plants with no coincidences of unstable poles and zeros, we prove a simplified condition for closed-loop stability. The simplification leads to a simple description of the set of all achievable I / O maps and a simple parameterization of all controllers achieving the same I / O map. The results are used to describe the set of all achievable decoupled I / O maps and prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of stable decoupling controllers.Item type:Item, STATISTICAL LINEARIZATION FOR MULTIINPUT MULTIOUTPUT NONLINEARITIES(1991-11-01) ;LIN, CA ;CHENG, VHL ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringItem type:Item, STATISTICAL LINEARIZATION FOR MULTIINPUT MULTIOUTPUT NONLINEARITIES(1991-11-01) ;LIN, CA ;CHENG, VHL ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control Engineering
