Item type:Item, 3-DIMENSIONAL NATURAL-CONVECTION OF AIR IN AN INCLINED CUBIC CAVITY(1995-06-01) ;LEE, TL ;LIN, TF ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThree-dimensional steady and transient natural convective flow in a differentially heated inclined cubic cavity of air was numerically simulated by the projection method combined with the power law scheme. Various three-dimensional flow structures were induced, depending on the Reyleigh number and inclined angle, although the main flow is nearly two-dimensional. It is of interest to note that the flow is stronger when a vertical cavity is inclined, implying significant flow acceleration by the buoyancy component normal to the hot and cold walls. Change in the flow structure during the transient causes wavy variation of the space-averaged Nusselt number with time.Item type:Item, ANALYSIS OF COMBINED BUOYANCY EFFECTS OF THERMAL AND MASS DIFFUSION ON LAMINAR FORCED-CONVECTION HEAT-TRANSFER IN A VERTICAL TUBE(1988-05-01) ;LIN, TF ;CHANG, CJ ;YAN, WM ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, BUOYANCY-INDUCED FLOW TRANSITION IN MIXED CONVECTIVE FLOW OF AIR THROUGH A BOTTOM HEATED HORIZONTAL RECTANGULAR DUCT(1994-05-01) ;HUANG, CC ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA detailed numerical simulation was carried out to study the buoyancy induced flow transition in a mixed convective flow of air through a bottom heated horizontal rectangular duct. The unsteady three-dimensional Navier-Stokes and energy equations were directly solved by a higher order finite difference numerical scheme without using any turbulence modeling. Results were particularly presented for Re = 500 and A = 2 covering a wide range of Gr/Re2 from steady laminar longitudinal vortex now to unsteady chaotic flow. The results indicate that the increasing buoyancy causes the steady laminar flow for Gr/Re2 < 4 to become a periodic laminar flow for 4 less-than-or-equal-to Gr/Re2 < 19, then to a quasiperiodic flow for 19 less-than-or-equal-to Gr/Re2 < 25 and finally to a chaotic flow in the downstream for 25 < Gr/Re2 less-than-or-equal-to 40. Thus, the buoyancy induced laminar to turbulent flow transition follows the Ruelle-Taken route. An empirical equation was proposed to correlate the locations for Hopf bifurcation.Item type:Item, COMBINED HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN LAMINAR FORCED-CONVECTION CHANNEL FLOWS(1988-05-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, COMBINED HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN LAMINAR GAS-STREAM FLOWING OVER AN EVAPORATING LIQUID-FILM(1990) ;TSAY, YL ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, COMBINED HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN NATURAL-CONVECTION BETWEEN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES(1988) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;CHANG, CJ ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, COMBINED HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN NATURAL-CONVECTION BETWEEN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES WITH FILM EVAPORATION(1990-03-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, COMBINED HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN TURBULENT NATURAL-CONVECTION BETWEEN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES(1989-08-01) ;YAN, WM ;TSAY, YL ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, COOLING OF A FALLING LIQUID-FILM THROUGH INTERFACIAL HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER(1990-09-01) ;TSAY, YL ;LIN, TF ;YAN, WM ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, DEVELOPMENT OF OSCILLATORY ASYMMETRIC RECIRCULATING FLOW IN TRANSIENT LAMINAR OPPOSING MIXED CONVECTION IN A SYMMETRICALLY HEATED VERTICAL CHANNEL(1993-05-01) ;LIN, TF ;CHANG, TS ;CHEN, YF ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Detailed flow and thermal characteristics in transient laminar opposing mixed convection in a vertical plane channel subject to a symmetric heat input are numerically investigated. First, a linear stability analysis was employed to evidence the occurrence of flow bifurcation. Then, the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations along with the continuity and energy equations were respectively integrated by a third-order upwind and power-law finite-difference scheme with the resulting matrices inverted by the Fast Fourier Transform and conjugated gradient methods. Reverse flow in the form of symmetric, elongated recirculating cells is initiated earlier and is stronger in a lower Prandtl number fluid with higher opposing buoyancy and Reynolds number and longer heated section length. A t a high opposing buoyancy, sudden flow asymmetry and oscillation occur simultaneously in a nearly steady flow after the initial transient. Periodic flow and thermal evolution are noted in space and time. An empirical equation for the condition for inducing flow oscillation is proposed.Item type:Item, EFFECTS OF WETTED WALL ON NATURAL-CONVECTION HEAT-TRANSFER BETWEEN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES(1988) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, EFFECTS OF WETTED WALLS ON LAMINAR NATURAL-CONVECTION BETWEEN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES WITH ASYMMETRIC HEATING(1990-01-01) ;YAN, WM ;TSAY, YL ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, EVAPORATION OF A HEATED FALLING LIQUID-FILM INTO A LAMINAR GAS-STREAM(1995-07-01) ;TSAY, YL ;LIN, TF ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringHeat and mass transfer characteristics for a falling liquid film evaporating into a gas stream were investigated. The liquid water film falls along a vertical plate subjected to a uniform heat flux. In the numerical analysis the respective governing equations for the liquid film and gas stream were solved together. An experimental system was also set up to measure the heat transfer coefficient along the wetted wall for various thermal and flow conditions. The measured data are in good agreement with the numerical predictions. It is observed that the latent heat transport connected with the vaporization of the liquid film plays an important role in the transfer processes. A correlation of the Nusselt number for heat transfer from the wetted wall to the liquid film is proposed.Item type:Item, EVAPORATIVE COOLING OF LIQUID-FILM THROUGH INTERFACIAL HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN A VERTICAL CHANNEL .1. EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY(1991-04-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;TSAY, YL ;交大名義發表機械工程學系An experimental study is performed to study the evaporative cooling of the falling liquid film through interfacial heat and mass transfer in a vertical channel. The measured wall temperature, heat and mass transfer rates are specifically presented for the systems with water film evaporation and ethanol film evaporation over wide ranges of liquid mass flow rate, channel width and liquid inlet temperature. The results show that the influences of the evaporative latent heat transfer on the cooling of the liquid film depend largely on the inlet liquid film temperature and liquid mass rate. Effective evaporative cooling results for a higher inlet liquid film temperature and a smaller liquid mass flow rate.Item type:Item, EVAPORATIVE COOLING OF LIQUID-FILM THROUGH INTERFACIAL HEAT AND MASS-TRANSFER IN A VERTICAL CHANNEL .2. NUMERICAL STUDY(1991-04-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the evaporative cooling of liquid falling film through interfacial heat and mass transfer in natural convection channel flows. Results for heat and mass transfer rates are specifically presented for the systems with ethanol film evaporation. The predicted results are also contrasted with the experimental results. The predictions show that the effects of the evaporative latent heat transfer on the cooling of the liquid film depend largely on the inlet liquid film temperature and liquid mass flow rate. Additionally, the results indicate that the heat transfer from the interface to the gas stream is predominated by the transport of the latent heat in conjunction with the liquid film evaporation.Item type:Item, EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF GEYSER BOILING IN AN ANNULAR 2-PHASE CLOSED THERMOSIPHON(1995-01-01) ;LIN, TF ;LIN, WT ;TSAY, YL ;WU, JCSHYU, RJGeyser boiling in a vertical annular two-phase closed thermosyphon was experimentally studied. The effects of the heat load, condenser temperature, degree of liquid fill and length of the evaporator on the characteristics of the geyser boiling were investigated in detail for both water and ethanol as working fluids. Flow visualization at light heat load clearly illustrates the process of geyser boiling. It also indicates that it occurs more frequently and irregularly at high heat load. The wall temperature measurement dictates that the period of geyser boiling is shorter at a higher heat load, a shorter evaporator length and a smaller liquid fill. Additionally, the heat transfer coefficient is found to increase approximately linearly with the heat load on a logarithmic scale. An empirical equation was proposed to correlate the data for the heat transfer coefficient. A criterion was suggested for the occurrence of geyser boiling based on the present data.Item type:Item, HEAT-TRANSFER IN BUOYANCY-DRIVEN CHANNEL FLOWS WITH THE SIMULTANEOUS PRESENCE OF LAMINAR, TRANSITIONAL AND TURBULENT-FLOW REGIMES(1989) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NATURAL-CONVECTION FLOWS IN A VERTICAL, OPEN TUBE RESULTING FROM COMBINED BUOYANCY EFFECTS OF THERMAL AND MASS DIFFUSION(1986-10-01) ;CHANG, CJ ;LIN, TF ;YAN, WM ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, NATURAL-CONVECTION HEAT-TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT THROUGH LATENT-HEAT TRANSPORT IN VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATE CHANNEL FLOWS(1990-06-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NATURAL-CONVECTION HEAT-TRANSFER IN VERTICAL OPEN CHANNEL FLOWS WITH DISCRETE HEATING(1987-03-01) ;YAN, WM ;LIN, TF ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung University
