Item type:Item, Actively Q-switched mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser with high mode-locking contrast(2012-02-01) ;Yen, T. H. ;Lin, J. H. ;Lai, Y. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsReliable Q-switched and mode-locked operation of Yb-doped fiber lasers is investigated by employing an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) in a linear cavity configuration. The widths and shapes of the Q-switched envelopes mainly depend on the external modulation frequency of the AOM and near symmetric Q-switched pulses can be generated. Within the Q-switched envelopes, harmonic mode-locked pulses with near 100% modulation depth at the 40 MHz repetition rate are experimentally observed.Item type:Item, ANALYSIS OF TUNABLE FLAT DISPERSION OF GERMANIUM DOPED FIBER WITH LIQUID CLADDING(2010-06-01) ;Liu, Y. ;Chen, N. ;Lai, Y. ;Chi, S.光電工程學系We demonstrate numerically the tunable dispersion-flattened fibers can be achieved by immersing the Ge-doped fiber core in different liquid claddings. The dispersion slope can be flattened over 1100-1700 nm, which is suitable for tunable supercontinuum, generation with pumping wavelength in fiber communication or other wavelength regions. Finally. we demonstrate the feasibility, to fabricate the proposed structure with chemical etching method. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Through the asynchronous mode-locking mechanism, the output pulse train has a wider optical spectrum and very uniform amplitudes with the un-wanted harmonic frequency components highly suppressed. Laser dynamics of two interesting high-repetition-rate new fiber soliton lasers (asynchronous modelocked and phase-modulation-induced bound-state) are investigated both theoretically and experimentally.Item type:Item, Plasmonic Coupler for Silicon-Based Micro-Slabs to Plasominc Nano-Gap Waveguide Mode Coversion Enhancement(2013-06-01) ;Liu, Y. ;Lai, Y. ;Chang, K. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe investigate a short (similar to 1.5 mu m) "partially" corrugated tapered waveguide for silicon-based micro-slab waveguide to plasmonic nano-gap waveguide mode conversion at the optical communication frequency. The structure is designed to achieve more precise mode matching between the silicon slabs and plasmonic waveguides. High transmission efficiencies up to 87% similar to 98% have been demonstrated numerically. The results show that the corrugated structure should not only be helpful for realizing full on-chip silicon plasmonic devices but also a good choice for mode coupling enhancement from dielectric waveguides to plasmonic waveguides. Meanwhile, we point out that the coupling mechanism reported here is different from that achieved by exciting surface plasmon polaritions (SPPs) at metal surfaces reported in the literature [18], [19].Item type:Item, Self-protection multi-ring-architecture fiber sensing system(2008) ;Wang, C. H. ;Yeh, C. H. ;Shih, F. Y. ;Chow, C. W.Hsu, K. C.In this investigation, we propose and experimentally investigate a simply self-restored ring-based fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensor system. This proposed multi-ring passive sensing architecture is without any active components in the entire network. In this experiment, the network survivability and capacity for the multi-point sensor systems are also enhanced. Besides, the tunable laser source (TLS) is adopted in central office (CO) for FBG sensing. The survivability of a eight-point FBG sensor is examined and analyzed. Due to the passive sensor network, the cost-effective and intelligent sensing system is entirely centralized by CO. As a result, the experimental results show that the proposed system can assist the reliable FBG sensing network for a large-scale and multi-point architecture.Item type:Item, Self-starting S-band mode-locked fiber ring laser by polarization additive pulse mode-locking(2013-01-01) ;Yang, L. G. ;Jyu, S. -S. ;Yeh, C. H. ;Lin, S. B.Chow, C. W.We have experimentally demonstrated a self-starting mode-locked fiber laser source operating at 1503 nm with 9 nm output bandwidth. The mode-locked laser works stably with a pumping threshold of 225 mW at 980 nm.
