Item type:Item, Enhanced fight transmission for Si solar cells using anti-reflector of mesoporous silica with low refractive index(2007) ;Shieh, Jia-Min ;Wang, Chao-Kei ;Wu, Shich-Chuan ;Ni, Wei-XinKuo, Hao-ChungMesoporus silica dielectrics, which revealed low refractive index (n similar to 1.27), were introduced together with Si3N4 layers to be double-layer-based graded-refractive-index ant-reflectors for silicon solar-cells. Enhanced solar-light transmission increased conversion efficiency of Si solar panels by 20%.Item type:Item, Enhanced photoresponse of a metal-oxide-semiconductor photodetector with silicon nanocrystals embedded in the oxide layer(2007-01-29) ;Shieh, Jia-Min ;Lai, Yi-Fan ;Ni, Wei-Xin ;Kuo, Hao-ChungFang, Chih-YaoThe authors report a two-terminal metal-oxide-semiconductor photodetector for which light is absorbed in a capping layer of silicon nanocrystals embedded in a mesoporous silica matrix on p-type silicon substrates. Operated at reverse bias, enhanced photoresponse from 300 to 700 nm was observed. The highest optoelectronic conversion efficiency is as high as 200%. The enhancements were explained by a transistorlike mechanism, in which the inversion layer acts as the emitter and trapped positive charges in the mesoporous dielectric layer assist carrier injection from the inversion layer to the contact, such that the primary photocurrent could be amplified. Enhanced solar-light transmission increased conversion efficiency of Si solar panels by 4%.Item type:Item, Liquid crystal enabled multi-channel power equalizer and stabilizer(2007-10-15) ;Pan, Ru-Pin ;Sheu, Chia-Rong ;Lan, Yu-Ping ;Lai, Yi-FanPan, Ci-LingAutomatic power equalization and stabilization of a liquid crystal enabled channel-selectable optical demultiplexer is demonstrated. The variation among output signals from different channels was reduced from similar to 10 dB to 0.15 dB with feedback control. The minimum ripple level of a single channel is similar to 0.05 dB. As a variable optical attenuator (VOA), the attenuation range of the device is similar to 12.6 dB. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
