Item type:Item, Conduction control at ferroic domain walls via external stimuli(2014) ;Yang, J. C. ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chen, Y. T. ;Liao, S. C.Huang, R.Intriguing functionalities at nano-sized domain walls have recently spawned a new paradigmfor developing novel nanoelectronics due to versatile characteristics. In this study, we explore a new scenario to modulate the local conduction of ferroic domain walls. Three controlling parameters, i.e., external electrical field, magnetic field and light, are introduced to the 90 degrees domain walls (90 degrees DWs) of BiFeO3. Electrical modulation is realized by electrical transport, where the mobility of 90 degrees DWs can be altered by gating voltage. We further use the ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic coupling to reveal the inherent magnetism at the DWs. With an established magnetic nature, magneto-transport has been conducted to introduce magnetic controlling parameter, where a giant positive magnetoresistance change can be observed up to 200%. In addition, light modulated conduction, a core factor for multifunctional applications, is successfully demonstrated (current enhancement by a factor of 2 with 11 W white lamp). These results offer new insights to discover the tunability of domain wall nanoelectronics.Item type:Item, Vibration analysis of rectangular plates with edge V-notches(2008-08-01) ;Huang, C. S. ;Leissa, A. W. ;Liao, S. C. ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringA method is presented for accurately determining the natural frequencies of plates having V-notches along their edges. It is based on the Ritz method and utilizes two sets of admissible functions simultaneously, which are (1) algebraic polynomials from a mathematically complete set of functions, and (2) corner functions duplicating the boundary conditions along the edges of the notch, and describing the stress singularities at its sharp vertex exactly. The method is demonstrated for free, square plates with a single V-notch. The effects of corner functions on the convergence of solutions are shown through comprehensive convergence studies. The corner functions accelerate convergence of results significantly. Accurate numerical results for free vibration frequencies and nodal patterns are tabulated for V-notched square plates having notch angle alpha = 5 degrees or 30 degrees at different locations and with various notch depths. These are the first known frequency and nodal pattern results available in the published literature for rectangular plates with V-notches. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. F.Ultrafine ZnO nanopowders were successfully synthesized by the de thermal plasma process with a high production rate of 1.2 kg/h. The combination of plasma was found to affect the nanoparticles morphology. Both X-ray diffraction and Raman spectrum analysis confirmed a high quality wurtzite structure of the ZnO nanopowders. Photoluminescence study exhibited strong ultraviolet emission corresponding to the near band edge emission in the ZnO nanopowders. Random laser action observed in the ZnO nanostructures by optical pumping demonstrated high optical and crystal quality of the ZnO nanopowders fabricated by the dc thermal plasma synthesis.
