Item type:Item, Effect of Threading Dislocations on Local Contacts in Epitaxial ZnO Films(2010) ;Lin, C. Y. ;Liu, W. -R. ;Chang, C. S. ;Hsu, C. -H.Hsieh, W. F.Local conductance of a ZnO epifilm with a columnar-grain structure was studied by conductive-mode atomic force microscopy. The probe-ZnO junction at the grain boundary with high density edge threading dislocations (TDs) behaves as a Schottky contact while the junction at the epitaxial core behaves as an ohmic contact, resulting in the nonuniformity of conductance throughout the film. The calculated Schottky barrier is 0.4 +/- 0.025 eV. The point defects of doubly charged Zn vacancies accumulated at the edge TDs induce local band bending of ZnO, thus contributing to the Schottky nature at the grain boundary.Item type:Item, Extreme Hyperlactatemia After Heart Transplantation: One Center's Experience(2015-07-01) ;Hsu, Y. C. ;Hsu, C. H. ;Huang, G. S. ;Lu, C. C.Wu, Z. F.Introduction. Hyperlactatemia may occur early after cardiac surgery and is correlated with prognosis. This study was conducted to analyze the perioperative variables and postoperative outcomes among heart transplant recipients with extremely high lactate levels (>15 mmol/L). Methods. The single-center medical records of heart transplantation from June 2006 to May 2013 were retrospectively reviewed for patient characteristics, perioperative hemodynamic variables, arterial blood gas analysis data, and postoperative mortality. Results. Among 58 consecutive heart transplant recipients, lactate levels over the detectable upper limit (>15 mmol/L) were identified in 12 patients after intensive care unit admission, with peak time at 1.9 +/- 2.0 (range 0-6.1) hours. The maximal preoperative lactate level was 3.1 mmol/L, and most (11/12) postoperative lactate levels returned to <4 mmol/L at 27.5 +/- 12.8 hours after surgery (range 15-58, median 24), displaying a trend toward delayed extubation time in 10 recipients (P < .01). Blood glucose levels elevated significantly from preoperative 148.9 +/- 45.2 to 375.7 +/- 96.9 mg/dL at peak lactate level (P < .01). Four patients died in the ICU (range 5-32 days), 4 died after discharge (range 5-57 months), with 6 in total surviving over 1 year. Conclusion. Extreme hyperlactatemia commonly occurred early after heart transplantation and mostly recovered within 30 hours; however, with delayed extubation time after operation.Item type:Item, High Efficiency E-coli Concentration via Dynamic Light-induced Optoelectro-osmosis Flow on Organic Photoconductivity Biochip(2011) ;Yang, S. M. ;Lin, C. Y. ;Wang, T. P. ;Punde, T. H.Chang, H. Y.We demonstrate a dynamic light-induced optoelectro-osmosis flow design for high efficiency E. coli concentration on an organic photoconductive material based biochip. Several traditional approaches of bacteria purification and enrichment utilize magnetic beads coated with antibodies to attract them. The efficiency of collecting magnetic beads is equal to sort bacteria. Our work provides a direct method to enrich the E. coli concentration with dynamic light images. Due to the applications of photoconductive material, TiOPc, two features are demonstrated, simple biochip fabrication processes and rapid E. coli collection. The biochip is fabricated only with spin-coating a thin TiOPc layer, 500nm, on the indium tin oxide (ITO) conductive glass. Besides, the E. colt are concentrated together within 30 sec toward the illuminating region by the surface charge slip. We also calibrate the dominating effects in different applied AC frequency region. In conclusion, our light-induced E. coli manipulation approach would expand the scope of the examination efficiency, for example, water quality.Item type:Item, High temperature synthesis of Sn-3.5Ag-0.5Zn alloy nanoparticles by chemical reduction method(2010-07-09) ;Lin, C. Y. ;Mohanty, U. S. ;Chou, J. H. ;應用化學系Department of Applied ChemistryThe synthesis of Sn-3.5Ag-0 5Zn alloy nanoparticles was carried out respectively at 50 and 70 degrees C by using chemical reduction method to examine the temperature effect The stirring times were 3, 12 and 24 h for each temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to investigate the microstructures of the nanoparticle alloys. Xray diffraction patterns revealed that the compound of Ag(3)Sn was formed in the alloying process. Other intermetallic compounds such as Ag(4)Sn and Ag(5)Zn(8) were also obtained in the XRD patterns. Results on TEM revealed that the isolated particles were spherical in shape and the particle size varied from 10 to 20 nm, showing the crystalline nature of the alloy. The nanoparticles obtained were evenly dispersed and less aggregated for the stirring time of 12 h and temperature of 50 degrees C. On the other hand, the nanoparticles obtained at 70 degrees C under the stirring time of 3 h were amorphous in nature and agglomerated which are reflected in the TEM micrographs (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V All rights reservedItem type:Item, Magnetophotoluminescence properties of Co-doped ZnO nanorods(2009-04-13) ;Lin, C. Y. ;Wang, W. H. ;Lee, C. -S. ;Sun, K. W.Suen, Y. W.We present the detailed experimental results of the magnetic and optical properties of cobalt doped ZnO nanorods, especially the temperature and magnetic field dependence of photoluminescence up to 14 T. The Raman measurements indicate that our Co-doped ZnO nanorods have the same lattice constant as crystalline bulk ZnO. Sharp luminescence peaks centered at around 670 nm were observed at low temperature and their intensity decreased with increasing magnetic field. The luminescence peaks were attributed to d-d transitions in the Ligand field from the doped Co ions. We also observed a diamagnetic shift at a temperature of 1.5 K when the magnetic field was scanned from 0 to 14 T. The exciton radius of the Co-doped ZnO nanorods was deduced from the magnetophotoluminescence results.Item type:Item, Monolithic Multi-Sensor Design With Resonator-Based MEMS Structures(2017-05-01) ;Kuo, F. Y. ;Lin, C. Y. ;Chuang, P. C. ;Chien, C. L.Yeh, Y. L.In this paper, we demonstrated a resonator-based MEMS architecture for multi-sensor SOC applications. A newly developed 0.18 mu m 1P6M CMOS ASIC/MEMS process was adopted to integrate MEMS sensor and circuits monolithically. By using resonators as the building blocks, multiple MEMS sensors including environmental temperature sensor, ambient pressure sensor, accelerometer as well as gyro sensor can be monolithically implemented with the readout circuits by the single standard ASIC/MEMS process without off-fab pre/post processes. The proposed architecture enables compact and innovative sentient-assisted SOC design for the emerging IOT applications.Item type:Item, Polar orientation induced by local photo-assisted poling in azo copolymer films(2010-04-01) ;Chien, F. S. -S. ;Lin, C. Y. ;Huang, C. R. ;Chang, C. S.Hsu, C. C.Polar orientation created by local photo-assisted poling (PAP) in copolymer films containing disperse red 1 was investigated by scanning probe microscopy. PAP was performed by a proximal biased probe, and the polar orientation was semiquantitatively measured by electrostatic force microscopy. The polar orientation behaves as a biexponential function of the period of PAP, which is dominated by fast angular hole burning and slow angular redistribution (AR). The characteristic time of AR decreases linearly with the poling bias. An expression has been developed to interpret the evolution of the Lorentzian-like shape of the poled spots. A poled spot with 150 nm FWHM was demonstrated. T.Yang, S.High-quality m-plane orientated ZnO films have been successfully grown on m-plane sapphire by using radio frequency magnetron sputtering deposition. The introduction of a nanometer-thick, low-temperature-grown ZnO buffer layer effectively eliminates inclusions of other undesirable orientations. The structure characteristics of the ZnO epi-layers were thoroughly studied by synchrotron X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The in-plane epitaxial relationship between ZnO and sapphire follows (0002)(ZnO) parallel to (11 (2) over bar0)(sapphire) and (11 (2) over bar0)(ZnO) parallel to (0006)(sapphire) and the ZnO/sapphire interface structure can be described by the domain matching epitaxy along the [11 (2) over bar0](ZnO) direction. The vibrational properties of the films were investigated by polarization dependent micro-Raman spectroscopy. Both XRD and micro-Raman results reveal that the obtained m-ZnO layers are tinder an anisotropic biaxial strain but still retains a hexagonal lattice.
