The input sampler consists of a comparator, a SR latch and a D flip-flop. Because a parallel architecture is used for the 1:8 demultiplexing and 3x oversamphing is utilized for data recovery, there are 24 input samplers in receiver front end. These input samplers are implemented in TSMC0.18um. 1P6M process with area of 252*162 um(2). The circuits can operate at maximum input data rate of 12.7 Gbps with differential signal of 300 mV using supply voltage of 1.8V.Item type:Item, A computationally efficient method for nonlinear multicommodity network flow problems(1997-07-01) ;Lin, SY ;Lin, CH ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityIn this paper, we present a new method for solving nonlinear multicommodity network flow problems with convex objective functions. This method combines a well-known projected Jacobi method and a new dual projected pseudo-quasi-Newton (DPPQN) method which solves multicommodity flow quadratic subproblems induced in the projected Jacobi method. The DPPQN method is a dual Newton-type method that differs very much from the conventional Lagrangian Newton method; our method fully exploits the structural advantages of network-type linear equality constraints to obtain a constant sparse approximate Hessian matrix with a decoupling structure and includes a novel finite-iteration successive projection and (truncated) seal algorithm to resolve the difficulty caused by coupling capacity constraints. The DPPQN method also consists of two decomposition effects, the commodity decomposition effect and the are decomposition effect, which resolve the potential numerical difficulties caused by large dimensions. We show the convergence of our method including the convergence of the finite-iteration successive projection and (truncated) seal algorithm. Compared with the Frank-Wolfe with PARTAN algorithm in which a price-directive decomposition method is used to solve linearized multicommodity flow problems, our method is dramatically faster in terms of the CPU time on a Sparc-10 workstation at solving numerous nonlinear multicommodity network flow examples. Our method achieves some attractive features; it is computationally efficient and numerically stable. The computational formulae of our method are simple, concise and easy to be programmed. We have tested our method for OPF problems on several power systems including a 2500-bus system.Item type:Item, A study on the radiation hardness of flash cell with horn-shaped floating-gate(1997-09-01) ;Huang, TY ;Jong, FC ;Chao, TS ;Lin, HCLeu, LYThe effects of radiation on the characteristics of split-gate electrical erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM)/flash cells with recently-proposed horn-shaped floating gates are studied in terms of cell read current; data retention, cycling endurance, program/erase efficiency, threshold voltage and junction leakage. Our results show that the cells appear to survive after 1 Mrad (Si) Co-60 irradiation. Moreover, the after-irradiation cell read current actually increases in the ''erase'' (i.e., low-threshold voltage, high-conducting) state (i.e., improves), albeit the cell read current also increases in the ''program'' (i.e., high-threshold voltage, low-conducting) state (i.e., a degradation). Our results also show that, despite an improvement in the initial read current in the ''erase'' state immediately after radiation, the write/erase cycling endurance of the flash cells is significantly impeded after irradiation, due to a much faster ''window closure'' rate in the ''erase'' state, although the cell read current is found to remain relatively stable in the ''program'' state after cycling.Item type:Item, A study on the radiation hardness of flash cell with horn-shaped floating-gate(1997-09-01) ;Huang, TY ;Jong, FC ;Chao, TS ;Lin, HCLeu, LYThe effects of radiation on the characteristics of split-gate electrical erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM)/flash cells with recently-proposed horn-shaped floating gates are studied in terms of cell read current; data retention, cycling endurance, program/erase efficiency, threshold voltage and junction leakage. The effects of operating parameters on the roles of Bronsted and Lewis acids acting in the SCR reaction were specified by the observed NO removal and the spectra of in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). The results indicated that H2O competed with NH3 molecules to be adsorbed on the pure titania catalyst that contained only Lewis acid sites. However, the competition did not occur over a vanadia-based catalyst on which both Bronsted and Lewis acid sites appeared in the presence of H2O. As compared to that under dry conditions where only Lewis acid sites were found, the catalytic activity was lower under moisturized conditions even though both acids existed and there are fewer reaction sites available. It is concluded that surface acid sites are varied according to different operation conditions. Lewis acidity was dominant under the condition of low vanadia content and in the absence of H2O molecules. It is also less sensitive to temperature. In contrast, Bronsted acidity was dominant under the condition of high vanadia content and in the presence of H2O molecules, and it is highly affected by temperature.Item type:Item, Agent-based robot control design for multi-robot cooperation(2005) ;Lin, CH ;Song, KT ;Anderson, GT ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents an agent-based robot control (ARC) architecture. ARC-features a flexible realtime control system, which is suitable for multi-robot cooperative tasks. It also provides an efficient platform for building up a multi-robot system consisting of heterogeneous robots. In this paper, an experimental study of this architecture is investigated A cooperative exploration using two mobile robots will be demonstrated. In this experiment, one robot explores the environment by looking for a color-coded target and the other is responsible for task execution at the target position. While exploring in an unknown environment, the first robot, which is equipped with ultrasonic sensors for exploration, records its position as it sees deployed checkpoints. In a later phase, the second robot plans a path to the target directly using information passed from the first robot and get to the target position in an efficient way.Item type:Item, An effective application of decision tree to stock trading(2006-08-01) ;Wu, MC ;Lin, SY ;Lin, CH ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementThis paper presents a stock trading method by combining the filter rule and the decision tree technique. The filter rule, having been widely used by investors, is used to generate candidate trading points. These points are subsequently clustered and screened by the application of a decision tree algorithm C4.5. Compared to previous literature that applied such a combination technique, this research is distinct in incorporating the future information into the criteria for clustering the trading points. Taiwan and NASDAQ stock markets are used to justify the proposed method. Experiment results show that the proposed trading method outperforms both the filter rule and the previous method. In front of the venturi scrubber, normal-temperature fine-water mist mixes with high-temperature exhaust gas to cool it to the saturation temperature, allowing submicron particles to grow into micron sizes. The grown particles are then scrubbed efficiently in the venturi scrubber. Test results show that the present venturi scrubber system is effective for removing submicron particles. For SiO2 particles greater than 0.1 mum, the removal efficiency is greater than 80-90%, depending on particle concentration. The corresponding pressure drop is relatively low. For example, the pressure drop of the venturi scrubber is similar to15.4 +/- 2.4 cm H2O when the liquid-to-gas ratio is 1.50 L/m(3). A theoretical calculation has been conducted to simulate particle growth process and the removal efficiency of the venturi scrubber. The theoretical results agree with the experimental data reasonably well when SiO2 particle diameter is greater than 0.1 mum.Item type:Item, An ordinal optimization theory-based algorithm for solving the optimal power flow problem with discrete control variables(2004-02-01) ;Lin, SY ;Ho, YC ;Lin, CH ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThe optimal power flow (OPF) problem with discrete control variables is an NP-hard problem in its exact formulation. To cope with the immense computational-difficulty of this problem, we propose an ordinal optimization theory-based algorithm to solve for a good enough solution with high probability. Aiming for hard optimization problems, the ordinal optimization theory, in contrast to heuristic methods, guarantee to provide a top n% solution among all with probability more than 0.95. The approach of our ordinal optimization theory-based algorithm consists of three stages. First, select heuristically a large set of candidate solutions. Then, use a simplified model to select a subset of most promising solutions. Finally, evaluate the candidate promising-solutions of the reduced subset using the exact model. We have demonstrated the computational efficiency of our algorithm and the quality of the obtained solution by comparing with the competing methods and the conventional approach through simulations.Item type:Item, CCDES - A collaborative compound document editing system(1996-06-01) ;Lin, CH ;Huang, SC ;Yuan, SM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceA collaborative editing systems allows co-authors at different locations to edit a shared view of a single document simultaneously. A compound document binds various types of information to create a single seamless presentation. A collaborative compound document editing system is developed to combine both the systems described above. It supports distributed editing with replicated compound documents, and integrates notification mechanisms into concurrence control modules. The real-time conversational facilities and the mechanisms for tolerating the process faults are provided. The collaborative compound document editing system is endured with the coordinating and data exchanging capabilities. This paper also discusses design issues such as multi-user interfaces and the presentation of compound documents, and proposes our approaches.Item type:Item, Classifying video documents by hierarchical structure of video contents(2000) ;Liu, DR ;Lin, CH ;Hwang, JJ ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceRecent advances in video database technology and increasing use of the World Wide Web allow users to access video documents on the Web. Moreover, advances in digital library technologies necessitate the storing of large quantities of video documents, Consequently, video documents must be categorized to assist the user in browsing and searching them by category. This study presents a novel approach to classifying video documents under classes in a predefined class hierarchy. Video documents are classified according to the structural weight of video contents, capturing their characteristics with respect to the hierarchical structure of the video data. Furthermore, while considering the hierarchical relationship among classes, the proposed technique strives for an appropriate balance between specificity and exhaustivity in video classification.Item type:Item, Comments on Saeednia's improved scheme for the hill cipher(2004-09-01) ;Lin, CH ;Lee, CY ;Lee, CY ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn 2000, Saeednia proposed a new scheme to make the Hill cipher secure. The author makes use of permutations of columns and rows of a matrix to get a different key for encrypting each message. This paper shows that the cipher key H-t can be obtained by parameter u. Besides, the Saeednia's scheme costs a lot of time in matrix computation. To overcome the drawbacks of Saeednia's scheme, a more secure cryptosystem with a one-way hash function is proposed.Item type:Item, Comparisons on properties and growth mechanisms of carbon nanotubes fabricated by high-pressure and low-pressure plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition(2004-11-01) ;Lin, CH ;Lee, SH ;Hsu, CM ;Kuo, CT材料科學與工程學系Effects of plasma pressure and the presence of nitrogen on growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their properties were studied by using microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) (pressure=600-3300 Pa) and electron cyclotron resonance chemical vapor deposition (ECR-CVD) (pressure=0.3-0.6 Pa) systems. CH4/H-2 and CH4/N-2 were used as source gases, and Co as the catalyst. The structures and properties of CNTs were characterized by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectra, and field emission I-V measurements. The results show that. CNTs made by higher plasma pressure system have a higher growth rate (typically 1-3 mum/min), smaller tube diameter, better field emission properties, and better tube quality. The growth rate is related to the availability of carbon source. The morphology change from spaghetti-like to well-aligned CNTs is discussed in terms of directed ions. The change in field emission properties is reasoned in terms of geometric enhancement factor and screening effect for different tube morphologies. The presence of nitrogen plasma can have the following effects: increasing tube diameter, increasing straightness of CNTs, forming of bamboo-like CNTs, deterioration of field emission properties, and shifting of Raman peak toward lower-frequency side (or increasing residual tensile stress). The X-ray crystal structure of the former enzyme makes possible the homology modeling of the human alpha-fucosidase, indicating the major difference between both enzymes in the periphery of the catalytic site. To investigate the difference at the molecular level, a variety of fuconojirimycin (FNJ) derivatives with substitution at Cl, C2, C6, or N were rapidly prepared in microplates and screened without purification for the inhibition activities of the two alpha-fucosidases. Among the molecules that were tested, only the substitution at Cl can significantly enhance the inhibitory potency, in contrast to the control (no substitution) and compounds with substitution at other positions. The majority of Cl-substituted FNJs were found to be slow tight-binding inhibitors of the Thermotoga enzyme, while acting as the reversible inhibitors of the human fucosidase. The best inhibitor exhibited 13700-fold difference in affinity between the two enzymes, which was attributed to the dissimilar aglycon binding site. Further investigations were carried out, including site-directed mutagenesis, the comparison of K-i values among the wild type and mutants, and the intrinsic fluorescence change upon inhibitor titration, all supporting the idea that Tyr64 and Tyr267 of the Thermotoga alpha-fucosidase are critically involved in closely interacting with the aglycon of inhibitors. The increased level of contact thus induced conformational change, leading to the observed slow tight-binding inhibition.Item type:Item, Ductile moment connections used in steel column-tree moment-resisting frames(2006-08-01) ;Chen, CC ;Lin, CC ;Lin, CH ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringThis paper presents analytical and experimental studies on the cyclic behavior of beam-to-column moment connections used in steel column-tree moment-resisting frames. The column-tree system is joining the column-trees and link beams in the field while the column-trees are fabricated in the shop by welding stub beams to the column. The proposed ductile column-tree connections have two distinctively improved connection details which are no weld access hole detail and a widened flange of the stub beam. Nonlinear finite element analysis demonstrated the effectiveness of the improved connection details which significantly reduce the stress concentration and plastic strain demands at the beam flange groove weld. Cyclic testing of three full-scale specimens was conducted to verify the proposed connection details. All the specimens successfully developed ductile behavior with no brittle fracture by forming the plastic hinging of the beam away from the beam-column interface. The widened flange and no weld access hole details are effective in reducing the potential of brittle fracture. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
