Item type:Item, Beyond-Bandwidth Electrical Pulse Modulation of a TO-Can Packaged VCSEL for 10 Gbit/s Injection-Locked NRZ-to-RZ Transmission(2011-03-15) ;Lin, Chia-Chi ;Chi, Yu-Chieh ;Kuo, Hao-Chung ;Peng, Peng-ChunChang-Hasnain, Connie J.The parametric characterization of a nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) to return-to-zero (RZ) data format converter based on the external optical NRZ injection of a TO-46-can packaged vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) directly modulated by a 10 GHz electrical pulse is demonstrated. The electrical-pulse modulation induced gain switching of the VCSEL is initiated under external optical NRZ data injection that increases the relaxation oscillation frequency of the homemade VCSEL from 2.2 to 7.4 GHz, thereby enabling its electrical modulation bandwidth up to 10 GHz. The external NRZ injection reduces the lasing threshold and enlarges the modulation depth of the VCSEL so that the converted RZ data pulsewidth can be shortened to 27 ps with a slightly increased peak-to-peak negative frequency chirp of 4.3 GHz (corresponding to a chirp parameter of 122 MHz/ps). The chirp and bit error rate (BER) display strong correlations with the injection power and the biased current of the VCSEL. With external injection, the receiving power required for achieving a BER below 10(-9) at 10 Gbit/s is -19.5 dBm, and a power penalty of 16 dB is observed when the dc bias of the electrical-pulse modulated VCSEL is decreased by only 10% from the threshold condition.Item type:Item, Bit-Error-Rate and Chirp analyses of a Gain-Switching VCSEL based All-Optical NRZ-to-RZ Converter(2008) ;Chi, Yu-Chieh ;Lin, Chia-Chi ;Kuo, Hao-Chung ;Peng, Peng-ChunLin, Gong-RuSingle-wavelength gain-switching VCSEL based all-optical converter is demonstrated to generate RZ data with 2.5Gbit/s bit-error-rate of 10(-9) at receiving power of -29 dBm and reduced frequency chirp of 178 MHz/ps at input optical NRZ power of -21dBm.Item type:Item, Chirp and error rate analyses of an optical-injection gain-switching VCSEL based all-optical NRZ-to-PRZ converter(2008-03-31) ;Lin, Chia-Chi ;Kuo, Hao-Chung ;Peng, Peng-Chun ;Lin, Gong-Ru交大名義發表Optically injection-locked single-wavelength gain-switching VCSEL based all-optical converter is demonstrated to generate RZ data at 2.5 Gbit/s with bit-error-rate of 10(-9) under receiving power of -29.3 dBm. A modified rate equation model is established to elucidate the optical injection induced gain-switching and NRZ-to-RZ data conversion in the VCSEL. The peak-to-peak frequency chirp of the VCSEL based NRZ-to-RZ is 4.5 GHz associated with a reduced frequency chirp rate of 178 MHz/ps at input optical NRZ power of -21 dBm, which is almost decreasing by a factor of 1/3 comparing with chirp on the SOA based NRZ-to-RZ converter reported previously. The power penalty of the BER measured back-to-back is about 2 dB from 1 Gbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s. We evaluated the clinical performance of the eBsensor glucose monitoring system. Methods: Fingertip capillary blood glucose concentrations from 282 subjects were measured using eBsensor glucose monitoring system and compared against predicate devices and the Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) 2300 blood glucose analyzer. Accuracy and precision of the eBsensor glucose monitoring system were assessed using several methods. The comparative study between the eBsensor and 2 currently marketed monitoring systems was performed. Results: The 282 eBsensor readings covered a wide range from 2.6 to 24.4 mmol/l. Deming regression and Pearson correlation analyses showed a linear relationship between the eBsensor readings and the YSI reference method (eBsensor=0.9496 YSI+0.4127 mmol/l; r=0.98). Error Grid analysis demonstrated that 100% of the eBsensor readings in clinically acceptable zones A and B. The CVs for the 6 lots of strips were within the satisfactory interval (< 6%). The comparative study showed that the eBsensor readings correlated well with the OneTouch Ultra values (r=0.97) and the Glucocard II values (r=0.97). Conclusions: eBsensor is a reliable glucose monitoring system which provides high accurate and precise glucose readings over a wide range of glucose concentrations. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
