Item type:Item, Cross-section and feasibility study on the non-invasive evaluation of muscle hemodynamic responses in Duchenne muscular dystrophy by using a near-infrared diffuse optical technique(2018-10-01) ;Weng, Wen-Chin ;Chen, Jung-Chih ;Lee, Chia-Yen ;Lin, Chia-WeiLee, Wang-TsoDuchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked debilitating muscular disease that may decrease nitric oxide (NO) production and lead to functional muscular ischemia. Currently, the 6-minute walk test (6-MWT) and the North Star Ambulatory Assessment (NSAA) are the primary outcome measures in clinical trials, but they are severely limited by the subjective consciousness and mood of patients, and can only be used in older and ambulatory boys. This study proposed using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to evaluate the dynamic changes in muscle hemodynamic responses (gastrocnemius and forearm muscle) during a 6-MWT and a venous occlusion test (VOT), respectively. Muscle oxygenation of the forearm was evaluated non-invasively before, during and after VOT in all participants (included 30 DMD patients and 30 age-matched healthy controls), while dynamic muscle oxygenation of gastrocnemius muscle during 6-MWT was determined in ambulatory participants (n = 18) and healthy controls (n = 30). The results reveal that impaired muscle oxygenation was observed during 6-MWT in DMD patients that may explain why the DMD patients walked shorter distances than healthy controls. Moreover, the results of VOT implied that worsening muscle function was associated with a lower supply of muscle oxygenation and may provide useful information on the relationship between muscular oxygen consumption and supply for the clinical diagnosis of DMD. Therefore, the method of fN1RS with VOT possesses great potential in future evaluations of DMD patients that implies a good feasibility for clinical application such as for monitoring disease severity of DMD. H. ;Chiu, Yi ;Lin, Chia-WeiLee, Yi-KuenMEMS sensors are promising for Energy Efficient Building (EeB) because of the potential low cost and low power consumption. Various flow sensors based on MEMS technology have been fabricated. In this work, we designed and fabricated a polysilicon micro hot-wire flow sensor using a commercial 0.35 mu m 2P4M CMOS technology followed by post-CMOS processing. A post-CMOS MEMS process for a 1.5mmx1.5mm sensor chip using Deep Reactive Ion Etch (DRIE) and spray coating was utilized to finish the fabrication. The fabricated flow sensor was characterized at different flow rates. The fabricated sensor with a dimension of 300 mu mx2 mu mx3.76 mu m demonstrated a sensitivity of 23.87 mV/(m/s) and power consumption of 0.79 mW at U-in= 5m/s. The experiment results were consistent with the theoretical prediction and the best results showed an average error of only 5%.Item type:Item, Highly branched green phosphorescent tris-cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes for solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes(2009-07-01) ;Huang, Wei-Sheng ;Lin, Chia-Wei ;Lin, Jiann T. ;Huang, Jen-HsienChu, Chih-WeiA series benzoimidazole-based dendritric complexes of iridium dendrimers containing Frechet-type dendrons with peripheral fluorenyl surface groups have been synthesized. These iridium dendrimers are green-emitting with high phosphorescence quantum yield, and can be spin-coated as films of good quality. From cyclic voltammograms (CV), high onset potentials at 1.42-1.58 V due to the peripheral fluorene group were observed. Device from a second generation dendrimer 17 with structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CBP: 20 wt% 17/TPBI/LiF/Al (PEDOT:PSS = poly(ethylene dioxythiophene): polystyrenesulfonate and CBP = bis(N-carbazolyl)biphenyl) has the best performance: maximum external quantum efficiency of 13.58% and maximum current efficiency of 45.7 cd/A. Space-charge-limited current (SCLC) flow technique was used to measure the mobility of charge carriers in the blend films of the compounds in CBP. Blend films of higher generation dendrimers have lower hole mobility, albeit with higher device efficiencies. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Without conventional sensing comb fingers, the dependence of device characteristics on stress-induced structural deformation can be significantly reduced. The variable inductors are used in on-chip LC-tank oscillators. When the external acceleration deforms the inductors, the oscillation frequency variation is proportional to the inductance change and thus the acceleration. The frequency output can be easily converted to digital codes by using a counter. The integrated accelerometer was implemented by a commercial 0.18 in 1P5M CMOS process and post-CMOS thy-etching processes. Experimental results showed the proposed accelerometer had a sensitivity of 150 kHz/g.Item type:Item, Neuroimaging Spectrum at Pre-, Early, and Late Symptomatic Stages of SCA17 Mice(1970-01-01) ;Chen, Chiao-Chi ;Yao, Nai-Wei ;Lin, Chia-Wei ;Su, Wei-ShuoWu, Chin-TienSpinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disease. We have generated SCA17 transgenic mice bearing human TBP with 109 CAG repeats under the Purkinje cell-specific L7/pcp2 promoter. These mice recapitulate the patients' phenotypes and are suitable for the study of the SCA17 pathomechanism. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and immunostainings were performed to identify the neuroimaging spectrum during disease progression. The results indicate that despite an overall normal appearance at birth, postnatal brain damage takes place rapidly in SCA17. Cerebellar atrophy, fourth-ventricle enlargement, and reduced cerebellar N-acetylaspartate levels were detected at the presymptomatic stage, when the mice were juvenile. The aberrations, which included reductions in body weight; cerebral size; striatal size; and the mean, radial, and axial diffusivities of the cerebellum, became more salient as the disease progressed to the old, late-symptomatic stage. Phosphorylated H2A histone family, member X (gamma H2AX) immunostaining revealed that the cerebellum underwent severe cell senescence in the old stage while the striatum appeared relatively unaffected by aging. Morphometric analysis indicated that the cerebellar atrophy occurred in all subregions with aging. The data establish that the SCA17 mouse brain appears normal at birth but becomes aberrant at the presymptomatic/juvenile stage. More widespread deficits add to the pathological spectrum at the old stage. The study provides information for the expression and expansion of L7/pcp2 promoter and implies the disease progression of SCA17 patients.
