Item type:Item, An Innovative Multiphase PWM Control Strategy for a PMSM with Segmented Stator Windings(2015) ;Lin, Chiao-Chien ;Tzou, Ying-Yu ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper proposes a multiphase converter topology with an innovative PWM strategy for the control of a PM synchronous motor with segmented stator windings to operate as an electronic geared motor. Simulation studies of the segmented PMSM with configurable stator windings have been carried out. Compared with conventional three-phase inverter topology, the proposed converter topology with associated PWM modulation strategy has advantages of reduced conduction loss, improved efficiency under light load condition, and expanded torque-speed operating ranges with a same dc-link voltage. The interleaved PWM strategy provides advantages of ripple current reduction and conduction losses reduction. Simulation results have been given to show advantages and flexibility of the proposed multi-phase PWM control scheme for a PMSM with segmented windings.Item type:Item, Green Mode Control Strategy of a PMSM with Front-end SEPIC PFC Converter(2014-01-01) ;Lin, Chiao-Chien ;Tzou, Ying-Yu ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringA motor drive with a PFC front-end converter provides advantages of improved power quality and over-all system efficiency. A buck-boost PFC converter provides adjustable output dc-link voltage for switching loss reduction of the connected PWM inverter drive. This paper proposes a green mode control strategy for the variable output voltage power factor correction (VOPFC) ac-dc converter and connected dc-ac inverter for PMSM drives in applications to centrifugal loads with wide speed control ranges. The VOPFC converter is a bridgeless single ended primary inductor converter (SEPIC), which both high side and low side switches are driven with the same PWM signal and is designed in operation in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Centrifugal load characteristics have been used for the loss analysis of the VOPFC inverter motor drive. An optimum dc-link voltage can be found for a specified operation speed with optimum over-all efficiency. Analysis-oriented simulation and experiment has been carried out for the green mode control strategy of VOPFC inverter PMSM drive.Item type:Item, Modeling and Sensorless Control of a Segmented PMSM(2015) ;Lin, Chiao-Chien ;Tzou, Ying-Yu ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents field-oriented sensorless control with distributed phase control strategy for a segmented PM synchronous motor driven by the multiphase converter to operate as an electronic geared motor. A mathematical model is developed for a three-phase segmented PMSM. Compared with conventional three-phase inverter topology, the proposed converter topology with associated distributed phase control strategy has advantages of reduced conduction loss, improved efficiency under light load condition, and expanded torque-speed operating ranges with a same dc-link voltage. The sensorless multiphase control strategy has been implemented based on a single-chip MCU controller (STM32F0). Experimental results have been given to show the performance and flexibility of the proposed multiphase converter for sensorless segmented PMSM drive with the distributed phase control scheme.Item type:Item, Robust Startup Control of Sensorless PMSM Drives with Self-Commissioning(2014-01-01) ;Lin, Chiao-Chien ;Tzou, Ying-Yu ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis paper presents a robust sensorless startup control method with self-commissioning for permanent magnet motors for smooth ramping speed up without reversing oscillations. Low cost sinusoidal PMSM motors used for fan and blower applications may have large parameter variations and static friction uncertainties. A reliable startup control with smooth operation thus becomes an indispensable requirement for practical applications. A self-commissioning strategy is developed to identify the fan motor parameters when a new application is initiated. These identified parameters are stored in an EEPROM and are used for the field oriented sensorless control of the of the PMSM motor drive. Based on the identified motor parameters, a start-up scheme will apply a series of voltage pulses with proper time durations to each stator winding and the corresponding peak currents are measured for the detection of initial commutation state of the rotor. The proposed scheme will not cause visible rotor vibrations and audio noises during the detection process. The sensorless startup with self-commissioning scheme has been implemented based on a single-chip MCU controller (STM32F0). Experimental results reveal that the proposed scheme can achieve reliable and smooth startup with robust performances.
