Item type:Item, Book-to-Market Equity, Asset Correlations and the Basel Capital Requirement(2013-09-01) ;Lee, Shih-Cheng ;Lin, Chien-Ting ;Yu, Min-Teh ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThis paper examines the effect of book-to-market equity (BE/ME) on asset correlations under the Basel capital requirement. We find that BE/ME captures variations in asset correlations after controlling for firm size, default probability and industry effects from 1987 to 2011. Obligors with higher BE/ME exhibit lower asset correlations compared to those with lower BE/ME. Decomposing BE/ME into assets-in-place and growth options based on the asset pricing literature shows that obligors with more assets-in-place or more fixed assets have higher BE/ME and lower asset correlations than those with more growth options. Overall, our findings suggest that BE/ME is an additional important factor that may improve the estimates of asset correlations and thereby banks' capital adequacy.Item type:Item, Corporate governance, growth opportunities, and the choices of cross-listings: The case of Chinese ADRs(2013-09-01) ;Pan, Lee-Hsien ;Lin, Chien-Ting ;Yang, Pei-Chi ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceWe examine the inter-relationships among internal governance, firm attributes, and the listing choices of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) for Chinese firms. We find that Chinese ADRs exhibit better performance, higher growth opportunities, and stronger internal governance than domestic firms prior to and after ADR listings. Furthermore, we find that the listing choices are influenced by Chinese firms' growth opportunities and internal governance. Those with lower growth opportunities tend to choose a Level 1 listing that restricts capital-raising but does not require U.S. regulatory compliance. In contrast, those with higher growth opportunities prefer a Level 3 listing that permits public offerings but requires full regulatory compliance. As a result, the improvement in the internal governance of Level 3 ADRs is more pronounced than that of Level 1 ADRs in the post-listing period. This suggests that the extent of improvement in governance is related to the firm attributes and the motivations behind cross-listings. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. By incorporating the aliphatic tricyclodecyl methacrylate moiety into the PMMA-co-PMAA main chain results in high glass transition temperature and high transparency of PMMA-based polymeric material. The TCM content affects the fraction of hydrogen bonding in these terpolymers, small content of TCM does not sacrifice the fraction of hydrogen-bonded association in and does not cause T(g) decrease. The extent of free amide group plays the major role in dictating moisture absorption of terpolymers. The incorporation of TCM significantly reduces the moisture absorption of terpolymers due to its hydrophobic and bulky tricyclodecyl group. In addition, the TCM plays the role of inert diluent to convert portion of the strong self-associated hydrogen bonded amide groups into inter-associated hydrogen bonding between carbonyl groups of ester units and MAAM. C.資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所We examine opportunistic behavior of initial public offering (IPO) firms in Taiwan where they are required to disclose their own earnings forecasts and are unrestricted in releasing news around the offerings. We find that prior to the offerings, IPO firms tend to report higher earnings, disclose inflated earnings forecasts, and manage more good news. News management, however, emerges as the most predominant factor in aftermarket stock prices. In particular, IPO firms have a strong preference for releasing good news related to strategy/policy that may simply provide a vision of a firm's future. Furthermore, the news releases are often forward-looking when they are positive about the firms but tend to be realized when they are negative. IPO firms also tend to engage in more window dressing activities before a larger sale of IPO shares from existing shareholders or a larger decline in insiders' holdings. Our analysis shows that managerial optimism cannot fully account for their behavior.Item type:Item, On the RF extrinsic resistance extraction for partially-depleted SOI MOSFETs(2007-05-01) ;Wang, Sheng-Chun ;Su, Pin ;Chen, Kun-Ming ;Lin, Chien-TingLiang, VictorWe have investigated the radio frequency (RF) extrinsic resistance extraction for partially-depleted (PD) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). Although the thick buried oxide in SOI devices can block the substrate coupling, the SOI neutral-body coupling effect is significant for RF applications. An equivalent circuit considering this effect has been proposed. Based on this equivalent circuit, a new model capturing the frequency dependence of extrinsic resistances has been derived. After considering the impact of quasi-neutral body, we have developed a physically accurate RF extrinsic resistance extraction methodology for PD SOI MOSFETs.Item type:Item, Resonance Effect on Self- and Inter-Association Hydrogen Bonding Interaction of Polymer Blend(2010-02-04) ;Lin, Chien-Ting ;Kuo, Shiao-Wei ;Lo, Jen-Chih ;Chang, Feng-Chih應用化學系A comparative Study of three poly(methacrylamides) containing different N-substitutions was carried Out in order to obtain a better understanding of the resonance effects on the inter-association and self-association hydrogen bonding interactions in polymer blends. DSC and solid-state NMR analyses are employed to Study the relative miscibility of these three binary blends, indicating that the PNPAA/P4VP blend has a better miscibility than the PNMAA/P4VP and PNCHAA/P4VP blends, because the resonance characteristic of the aromatic ring in PNPAA enhances the inter-association hydrogen bonding with P4VP based on FIFIR and solid-state NMR analyses.Item type:Item, RF extrinsic resistance extraction considering neutral-body effect for partially-depleted SOI MOSFETs(2006) ;Wang, Sheng-Chun ;Su, Pin ;Chen, Kun-Ming ;Lin, Chien-TingLiang, VictorItem type:Item, Substituent-induced delocalization effects on hydrogen-bonding interaction in poly(N-phenyl methacrylamide) derivatives(2011-05-26) ;Kuo, Shiao-Wei ;Lin, Chien-Ting ;Chen, Jem-Kun ;Ko, Fu-HsiangChang, Feng-ChihWithin small molecules, the hydrogen-bonding behaviors affected by delocalization have been studied thoroughly, but rare publication in macromolecules. Therefore, three poly(N-phenyl methacrylamide)s, poly(N-phenyl methacrylamide) (PNPAA), poly(N-4-methoxyphenyl methacrylamide) (PMPMA) and poly(N-4-bromophenyl methacrylamide) (PBPMA), with different inductive substitution at para position of benzene ring are prepared to investigate the substituent-induced delocalization effects on the hydrogen-bonding interaction behaviors. In this study, the variable-temperature FTIR spectrum is used as tool to study the self- and inter-association hydrogen-bonding interaction. FTIR analyses could provide evidences that there is relatively stronger inter-associative hydrogen bonding in poly(N-4-bromophenyl methacrylamide)/P4VP blends. High resolution (13)C CP/MAS solid-state NMR analyses indicate that the spin-lattice relaxation time (T) in all PBPMA blends are homogeneous on the scale at which spin-diffusion occurs within the time T(1)rho(H), also due to the enhancement by substituent inductive delocalization. The power spectral densities for the induced gate noise current and correlation noise current are found to rise as temperature increases, and decline for the channel noise current. Moreover, by using van der Ziel's noise model, our experimental results show that, besides ambient temperature, the channel conductance is the main factor dominating the RF noise behaviors. Finally, bias dependence results are also presented.
