R. ;Lin, Jan-Ruei ;Wang, Chun-Hung科技管理研究所With the rise of the Internet in recent decades, commentary, news, and further information on new products are present on various web sites. Thus, the Internet has become an abundant source of market intelligence. In addition, technological applications are presented in patent databases and disseminated to popular media, based on the perspective of technology life cycle. Therefore, the interaction between technological applications coded by patents and market intelligence reported by the Internet assists in discovering potential product opportunities. This study intends to identify the areas where technological applications exist, excluding Internet reports, by exploring the corresponding relationships between patents and media reports. Such areas could be identified as potential product opportunities. Text-mining and the arbitrarily oriented projected cluster generation (ORCLUS) algorithm is employed to classify important fields of patents and media reports. The cosine similarity of tfidf is then used to detect the relationship between patents and media reports. The remote health monitoring technology is applied as a case in this study. The results show four product opportunities, namely: wireless sensor devices, telecommunication systems and technology, wearable devices and systems, and medical services and systems.Item type:Item, A hybrid selection model for emerging technology(2010-01-01) ;Shen, Yung-Chi ;Chang, Shu-Hsuan ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng科技管理研究所Technology selection, which influences the advantages of an enterprise or a country, is a rnulticriteria decision issue that can be improved by integrating different methods. In addition, it is more and more difficult to identify the right technologies because the technologies are increasing in number and complexity. This study proposes a technology selection process integrating fuzzy Delphi method, analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and patent co-citation approach (PCA) for technology selection. The former effectively gathers experts' judgments toward technology selection criteria and conducts the fuzziness existing in their responses. The analytic hierarchy process has the strength of identifying criteria and obtaining their relationship and their weights. The patent co-citation approach identifies the major R&D fields of a specific technology from patent data. Through this proposed process. the key technology fields can be identified in the end. The organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology in Taiwan is used to bean example to illustrate the proposed technology selection process. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. R. ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis research aims to propose a hybrid process concerning the complex interactive relationship between different economic and industrial prospects towards a more effective evaluation on new technology. To achieve this purpose, the integration of the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique and the analytic network process (ANP) is employed to construct a technology evaluation model regarding the economic and industrial prospects. The emerging organic light emitting diode (OLED) display technology is used as a case in order to verify the applicability of proposed a novel hybrid MCDM method for the technology evaluation. The result of this hybrid process can help top managers of technology-based companies or policy makers of governments to more objectively and effectively determine future research and development direction.Item type:Item, An assessment of exploiting renewable energy sources with concerns of policy and technology(2010-08-01) ;Shen, Yung-Chi ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Li, Kuang-Pin ;Yuan, Benjamin J. C.科技管理研究所In recent years, the Taiwanese government has vigorously promoted the development of renewable energy to engage the challenges of gradual depletion of fossil fuels and oil, as well as the intensification of the greenhouse effect. Since the Sustainable Energy Policy Principles were announced in 2008, Taiwanese government has declared that the development of renewable energy should take into account goals that pertain to energy, the environment, and the economy (3E goals). This study aims to assess the 3E goals and renewable energy sources regulated by the Renewable Energy Development Bill that passed in 2009. The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is used to resolve the multi-goal problem for achieving our research purposes. That is, this research attempts to reveal the suitable renewable energy sources for the purposes of meeting the 3E policy goals. The results first show that environmental goal is the most important to the development of various renewable energy technologies in Taiwan, followed by the economic and energy goals. Additionally, hydropower, solar energy, and wind energy would be the renewable energy sources utilized in meeting the 3E policy goals. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. H. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis article does not intend to actually valuate intangible assets but focuses to investigate the relative value distribution of corporate intangible assets, and this links closely to the concept and application of value drivers. This is because we believe that drivers or attributes of the value significantly determine how the virtual value of these intangibles can be created for companies. We apply the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to the appraising process of intangible assets. The AHP method can mainly sort the non-financial value drivers in order according to their weighted contributions. Therefore, the key purpose of this article is to develop a tentative model for the evaluation of intangible assets, which helps business to correctly appraise corporate value ratios and avoid bias due to mainly relying on financial statements when measuring an entity's value. In addition, in view of the significant proportion of intangible assets over total assets in high-technology industries, this research, then, uses six industries in Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan, as its research objects in order to test the applicability of its model, as well as exploring the value weights of intangible assets and its evaluation among different technology industries. Besides, the empirical result of this article is mainly to support business appraisal and thus improves the effectiveness of value-based management.Item type:Item, Combined DEMATEL techniques with novel MCDM for the organic light emitting diode technology selection(2011-03-01) ;Shen, Yung-Chi ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThis research aims to propose a hybrid process concerning the economic and industrial prospects along with critical technology streams toward a more effective selection on new technology. The integration of fuzzy Delphi method, the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, and the analytic network process (ANP) is employed to construct a technology selection model regarding the economic and industrial prospects. On the other hand, the patent co-citation approach (PCA) is applied to objectively draw key technology fields as technology alternatives for the technology selection model from patent data. The emerging organic light emitting diode (OLED) display technology is used as a case in order to verify the applicability of proposed a novel hybrid MCDM method for the best technology selection. The result of this hybrid process can help top managers of technology-based companies or policy makers of governments to more objectively and effectively determine future research and development direction. N. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Hsieh, P. S. ;Hsi, P. H.科技管理研究所In a world where energy conservation and environmental protection are growing concerns, the development of electric vehicles (EVs) has taken on an accelerated pace and drawn high levels of interest across many developed and developing countries. The purpose of this study is to explore what constitutes national competitiveness in EVs development and how one nation can efficiently achieve that development in its EV industry. We used Porter\'s diamond model as an underlying theory to describe the sources of national competitiveness. The DEMATEL method was employed to analyze the structural model and reveal the cause-and-effect relationships of the sources of competitiveness. Having identified the causal relationships and strengths of those competitiveness sources, we formulated a path with clear and logical links that lead a nation to achieve the best results when establishing an emerging industry.Item type:Item, Driving industrial clusters to be nationally competitive(2010) ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Sun, Chia-Chi ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyIndustrial clusters have received considerable attention from economists and industrial analysts. The main purpose of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the driving forces behind the growth of industrial clusters. Another core viewpoint anchored in this paper is that national competitive advantages can be achieved by industrial clusters. We examine the impacts of and determine the relationships among different driving forces. Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park, because of its connection with innovative participators, is a prime example for this paper. This research adopts the Decision MakingTrial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) as the main analytical tool. Our research results show that local demand conditions and factor conditions (which are specialised factors of production such as skilled labour, capital and information infrastructure) are the main causal driving forces for advancing Taiwan's industrial cluster performance. This paper concludes by discussing managerial implications for industry and government.Item type:Item, Dynamics of Industrial Cluster Scenarios(2014-12-01) ;Itoga, Holly ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Yang, Fred Chia-Han ;Shyu, Joseph Z.科技管理研究所This research aims to explore the dynamic co-opetition of industrial cluster evolution based on the Lotka-Volterra model. Particularly, an empirical co-opetition case of industrial innovation parks, Southern and Central Taiwan Science Park (STSP and CTSP), will be used to demonstrate the validity of the dynamic approach. The results reveal that the competitive relationship between STSP and CTSP may be a predator-prey interaction type. The existence of STSP and its investment growth will be of positive assistance in developing the latter CTSP area. Contrarily, the growth of CTSP will probably compete with the resources of STSP and inhibit the sustained growth of STSP. In addition, an equilibrium point does not exist in the competition relationship of these two clusters from 2003 to 2010, in which STSP and CTSP areas should coexist with sustained growth in this current short-term stage.Item type:Item, Empirical measurement of sustainable welfare from the perspective of extended genuine savings(2007-05-01) ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe original genuine savings (GS) model started from a concern mainly with unchanged capital: if the stocks of all forms of capital decline through time, welfare will decline, too, eventually leading to unsustainability. In other words, negative GS rates indicate unsustainability. In the context of sustainable development evaluation, however, income distribution and change of per capita welfare are two significant dimensions that the GS model has totally ignored and that need to be aptly incorporated into the model. This is because, behind a positive GS ratio, a country still faces other factors such as current income inequality and population growth, which may undermine the enjoyable sustainable welfare. This paper therefore adjusts the GS framework for these reflections and tests its application to the United Kingdom and Taiwan between 1970 and 1998. Our result shows that the United Kingdom has more depressed GS rates and more eminent sustainable welfare loss than Taiwan over the years. This result has been accordant with some prior research claims: many resource-rich countries have achieved slow or no long-term improvements in their standards of living. R. ;Hsi, P. H. ;Lim, S. S.科技管理研究所Since 2010, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Academia Sinica in Taiwan have formulated the Germination Program to translate important scientific discoveries into innovative developments. Using actual cases, this study aimed to propose a technology evaluation framework consisting of a hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (fuzzy MCDM) approach to evaluate and prioritize the optimal alternatives with best commercial potential. The fuzzy Delphi method was first used to determine the three dimensions and nine important decision criteria. Next, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP) results indicated that the top three dimensions are accordingly "technological innovation", "business development" and "operating management". The top three important criteria are "technological origins", "potential impact" and "technological competence" respectively. Finally, the fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (fuzzy TOPSIS) results revealed that T2 and T4 are the two optimal alternatives with best commercial potential for further funding and commercialization. The proposed technology evaluation framework could serve as a reference to both government administrative agencies and university practitioners for the future evaluation of commercializing original technologies.Item type:Item, Evaluation and Decision Making in Taiwan Semiconductor Industry through Silicon via Technology(2014-07-01) ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Lee, Yen-Chun ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyIn the past decade, Taiwan has emerged as the stronghold of worldwide semiconductor manufacturing. Semiconductor technology companies in Taiwan have been investing numerous resources in emerging through-silicon via (TSV) technology research and development (R&D) to keep enhancing their competitive advantages. The aim of this study was to propose a hybrid approach along with the Moore\'s Law migration pattern to more objectively and effectively select such emerging chip interconnect technologies that can further help to strengthen Taiwan\'s semiconductor industry prospects. The fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) and the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) were integrated to construct a decision-making model for evaluating potential TSV technologies. The simple additive weighting (SAW) method was then used to rank and select TSV technology alternatives. The results of the synthetic evaluation indicated that 3D integrated circuit (IC) TSV was of primary interest for Taiwan\'s semiconductor industry in the aspect of TSV technology development, followed by 2.5D TSV interposer (TSI) and 3D silicon (Si) TSV. Furthermore, "technological merits" was shown as the most critical evaluation dimension, and "heterogeneous integration" represented the most important evaluation criterion. The proposed hybrid model may help senior managers of the semiconductor industry or government policy makers to direct R&D and allocate-relevant resources more strategically.Item type:Item, Factors influencing satisfaction and loyalty in online shopping: an integrated model(2009) ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Lin, Chih-Chieh ;Chou, C. James ;Lee, Yen-Chun科技管理研究所The purpose of this study was to collect key success factors (KSFs) that determine information security management in cloud computing. Through contemporary literature reviews, we emphasized four major aspects: the external dimension, the internal dimension, the technology dimension, and the execution dimension. We used these dimensions to develop a questionnaire for collecting the responses from experts, and then used the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (Fuzzy AHP) to categorize and analyze these responses. The investigations concluded the six major KFSs: authentication, disclosure prevention, encryption, service model, interface, and customer. Different from previous perceptions, information security management in cloud computing emphasizes factors that are more market-oriented. In addition, we explored several important KSFs, such as service model, interface, and customer criteria. These KSFs differed from the factors commonly regarded in the internet age.Item type:Item, How to Enhance Customer Involvement in Service Innovation within Service Industry(2019-06-01) ;Wu, Yu-Chi ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Yu, Wei-Han ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe purpose of this study is to provide a framework to develop the linkage between employee service innovation behavior and customer involvement in service innovation based on social exchange theory. This empirical study utilizes regression analysis to test the proposed mediating model. The findings indicate that the employee service innovation behavior leads to a quality customer-employee relationship which in turn encourages consumers to involve in service innovation.Item type:Item, How to Manage Information Security in Cloud Computing(2011) ;Wang, Jen-Sheng ;Liu, Che-Hung ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe debut of the Cloud Computing generation has made information security managing a most significant and critical issue. However, the successful management of information security in cloud computing requires certain factors. This study aims to collect Key Success Factors (KSFs) that determine the management information security in cloud computing through literature review and design of a questionnaire survey. This comprises four major aspects: (1) External dimension, (2) Internal dimension, (3) Technology dimension, and (4) Execution dimension. Based on these, we proceed with categorization and analysis using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP or FAHP), which we applied in this study to overcome the seeming failure of general Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) in dealing with respondents' impersonal differences in paired comparison. The objectives under each aspect ranked in order from security function, system, organization, operation, market, legislation, human resource, to mechanism. The results sifted from the FAHP approach suggest six top key success factors: "Authentication", "Disclosure Preventing", "Encryption", "Service Model", "Interface", and "Customer". Different to conventional information security, security in cloud computing emphasizes more market-oriented factors.Item type:Item, Hybrid Grey forecasting model for Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Industrial Park(2009-05-01) ;Sun, Chia Chi ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyGrey theory is an effective method to solve uncertainty problems with discrete data and incomplete information. This paper proposes an improved grey GM (1, 1) model, using a technique that combines residual modification with Markov chain model. Proposed Grey-Markov model, applied as a case study to annual output of Taiwan Hsinchu Industries Science Park, could clearly improve forecast accuracy of original Grey forecast model.Item type:Item, Industrial Cluster Development and its Contribution to Economic Growth in Taiwan - Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park (HSIP)(2017-05-01) ;Lee, S. J. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Hsi, P. H. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe development of industrial cluster plays a significant role in the growth of national industries, and the industrial cluster development indeed makes a great impact on the progression of national industries, especially in developing countries. Under the fiercely global trends in competition, industrial cluster has been identified as an important strategy to keep the development of regional industries in a sustainable trajectory, and a good implementation of industrial cluster usually reflects on the cluster region carrying within a large number of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Through the clustering of businesses and industries, the corresponding geographical proximity, and the promotion of mutual support and learning, businesses and industries located in the cluster region can further acquire the advantages of Economy of Scale and those of Economy of Scope. Meanwhile, the successful experience of Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park (HSIP) has become a good model for many countries to learn the development of Science Park, and the most contribution of HSIP is transforming the labour-intensive industries to talent-intensive industries. Also, it directly promotes the development of high-technology industries in a sustainable trajectory. Most important of all, the success of HSIP created the so-called "Taiwan Economic Miracle" in the later twentieth century, and it led Taiwan to be one of "Four Asian Tigers".Item type:Item, Measuring Dynamic Operation Efficiency for Universal Top 10 TFT-LCDs by Improved Data Envelopment Analysis(2018-08-01) ;Lee, Z.
