P. ;Ciou, G. -T. ;Lin, H. -Y. ;Peng, W. -C.Sie, J. -H.Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) organic dye is well-known to have poor solubility in most common organic solvents. In general, flexible alkyl chain is used to enhance the solubility of conjugated small molecules by disrupting the attraction between molecules. In this study, we have integrated hybrid organic-inorganic siloxane group as a solubilizing agent on DPP molecule carrying dicyanovinyl (DCV) as an electron-withdrawing group. UV-Vis absorption spectra were collected to evaluate the optical properties of these compounds. The electrical performances of these organic semiconductors were examined by fabricating into transistor device with them as active channel layer in the bottom gate staggered configuration. Furthermore, the molecular packing in thin films from this series was investigated by 2D grazing incident x-ray diffraction (GIXD) in relationship with device performances. It is shown that the siloxane group at the side chain of DPP effectively enhances the solubility of this molecule compared to DPP molecule with branched alkyl chain from previous study. A better solubility allows for device fabrication by solution process yet improves crystallinity of organic films and thus its electrical device performance.Item type:Item, Prospective randomized controlled trial comparing treatment efficacy and tolerance of picosecond alexandrite laser with a diffractive lens array and triple combination cream in female asian patients with melasma(1970-01-01) ;Wang, Y. -J. ;Lin, E. -T. ;Chen, Y. -T. ;Chiu, P. -C.Lin, B. -S.Background Recent evidence suggests melasma to be a photoaging disorder. Triple combination creams (TCC: fluocinolone acetonide 0.01%, hydroquinone 4% and tretinoin 0.05%) remain the gold standard treatment. Picosecond alexandrite laser treatment using a diffractive lens array (DLA) has been identified to be effective for improving photoaging conditions. Objective We aimed to compare the efficacy and tolerance of the picosecond alexandrite laser with those of DLA and TCC in female Asian patients with melasma. Methods Twenty-nine patients were randomly assigned to group A1 (3 laser sessions at 4-week intervals), A2 (5 laser sessions at 4-week intervals) or B (TCC daily for at least 8 weeks and then tapered until the final evaluation). The Melasma Area, Severity Index (MASI) score and VISIA were assessed at baseline, week 12 and week 20. By week 20, the follow-up periods for groups A1 and A2 were 3 months and 1 month, respectively. Results Nine, 11 and 6 participants in groups A1, A2 and B completed the study, respectively. MASI scores were significantly improved in all 3 groups at weeks 12 and 20. In groups A1, A2 and B, the improvement rates at week 20 were 53%, 38% and 50%, respectively. VISIA analysis additionally revealed a significant improvement in spots, porphyria, pores and brown spots after 3 laser sessions (P < 0.05). Group A2 showed greater improvements than group A1 in terms of spots, wrinkles and pores; however, only red areas were significantly different (P < 0.001). All side-effects in the 3 groups were transient and gradually subsided after 1-3 months. Conclusion Picosecond alexandrite laser treatment using DLA showed comparable efficacy with TCC for the treatment of melasma. Improvements in texture, spots, wrinkles and pores were observed in the laser groups. Patients with melasma lesions that exhibit telangiectasia may benefit from additional laser treatment sessions.Item type:Item, Prospective randomized controlled trial comparing treatment efficacy and tolerance of picosecond alexandrite laser with a diffractive lens array and triple combination cream in female asian patients with melasma(2020-03-01) ;Wang, Y. -J. ;Lin, E. -T. ;Chen, Y. -T. ;Chiu, P. -C.Lin, B. -S.BackgroundRecent evidence suggests melasma to be a photoaging disorder. In order to identify leaking pipelines efficiently when limited resources are available, a cluster identification method (CIM) is proposed to establish a priority for leakage detection and to assess whether spatial clusters of high failure-prone areas exist. The proposed CIM evaluates the difference between the observed data and simulated trials to determine the statistical significance of each cluster; a method previously applied only in epidemiology studies to assess the occurrence probabilities of rare diseases for spatial clusters. The CIM suggested in this study is the overlapping local case proportions (OLCP) that uses grids to scope the entire area and then to simulate the number of failures in the neighborhood of each grid. The simulated failure ratios are then compared with the existing records to determine the statistical significance. The statistical significance represents the potential of the grid requiring further leakage detection. Three failure probability estimation methods, including local average, global average, and empirical equation, are utilized to analyze the suitability of the OLCP for use with various probability inputs. A case study in the central region of Taiwan was implemented to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. The results indicate that the rate of failure in the following year found within the spatial clusters determined by the OLCP was twice the average amount and thus provided valuable information used to prioritize the pipelines for further inspection.
