Item type:Item, A methodology for fault model development for hierarchical linear systems(2000) ;Huang, YC ;Lee, CL ;Lin, JW ;Chen, JESu, CCIn this paper, a methodology to develop fault models for hierarchical linear systems which are composed of operational amplifiers(OP) is demonstrated and presented. The methodology, at first, presents a transfer function model for the open-loop OP based on analysis of element faults at the transistor level. Then it derives a transfer function model for the closed loop OP based on the derived open-loop OP level model, again a higher level fault model for a module which is composed of closed loop OPs. The models can handle ac faults. The benchmark state-variable filter is used as an example to demonstrate for this methodology. an application of the derived models to Monte-Carlo simulation to save computation time is also demonstrated.Item type:Item, A robust high-Q micromachined RF inductor for RFIC applications(2005-07-01) ;Lin, JW ;Chen, CC ;Cheng, YT ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn this paper, a robust micromachined spiral inductor with a cross-shaped sandwich membrane support is proposed and fabricated with fully CMOS compatible post-processes for radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) applications. Via the incorporation of a sandwich dielectric membrane (0.7 mu M SiO2/0.7 mu M Si3N4/0.7 mu m TEOS) to enhance the structure rigidity, the inductor can have better signal stability. In comparison, the new design of a similar to 5-nH micromachined inductor can have 45% less inductance variation than the one without the dielectric support while both devices are operated with 10 m/s(2) acceleration. Meanwhile, using a cross shape instead of blanket membrane can also effectively eliminate the inductance variation induced by the working temperature change (20 degrees C to 75 degrees C). The measurement results show the robust inductor can have similar electrical performance to the as-fabricated freely suspended inductor, which has five times Q (quality factor) improvement than the inductor without the substrate removal. It is our belief that the new micromachined inductors can have not only high-Q performance but also better signal stability suitable for wide-range RFIC applications.Item type:Item, An efficient test and diagnosis scheme for the feedback type of analog circuits with minimal added circuits(2002) ;Lin, JW ;Lee, CL ;Chen, JE ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsItem type:Item, An optimum design of the micromachined RF inductor(2004) ;Lin, JW ;Chen, CC ;Huang, JK ;Cheng, YT電子工程學系及電子研究所With a complete performance investigation of the on-chip micromachined inductor with mechanical disturbances using ANSYS and HFSS simulators, an optimum structural design of the micromachined spiral inductors with fully CMOS compatible post-processes for RFIC applications is proposed in this paper. Via the incorporation of a sandwich dielectric membrane (0.7mum SiO2/ 0.7mum Si3N4/ 0.7mum TEOS) to enhance the structure rigidity, the inductor can have better signal stability. As compared, the new design of a 5nH micromachined inductor can have less 45% inductance variation than the conventional one while both devices operate at 8GHz but with 10 m/sec(2) acceleration. Meanwhile, using a cross shape instead of blanket membrane can also effectively eliminate the inductance variation induced by the working temperature change (20degreesC to 75degreesC). It's our belief that the new micromachined inductors can have not only high Q performance but also better signal stability suitable for wide range RFIC applications.Item type:Item, Aspectual selection and negation in Mandarin Chinese(2003) ;Lin, JW ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThis paper argues that the distributions of bu 'not' and mei 'not' in Mandarin Chinese can be accounted for in terms of their aspectual selections. I propose that while mei aspectually selects an event as its complement, bu aspectually selects as its complement a stative situation that requires no input of energy in order to obtain that situation. I show that this approach to the distributions of bu and mei better accounts for the data than previous analyses such as Huang (1988), Ernst (1995), and Lee and Pan (2001).Item type:Item, Choice functions and scope of existential polarity wh-phrases in Mandarin Chinese(2004-08-01) ;Lin, JW ;外國語文學系Department of Foreign Languages and LiteraturesA recent popular analysis of English indefinites is that they involve a choice function mechanism in their semantic interpretation. However, there are diversified views regarding how intermediate scope readings should be dealt with and which level(s) existential closure should apply to. This paper attempts to make a contribution to this debate by examining existential polarity wh-phrases in Chinese. I show that unlike the behaviors of polarity indefinites in Statimcets reported by Matthewson (1999), intermediate scope readings are possible for polarity wh-phrases in Chinese but are subject to some locality conditions. I suggest that implicit arguments of choice functions might have a parametric value the choice of which affects availability of intermediate readings. The findings in this paper thus revive the possibility, rejected by Matthewson (1999), that the choice function mechanism may vary from language to language or from indefinite NPs in one language to indefinite NPs in another language or even from one type of indefinite NP to another type of indefinite NP within the same language.Item type:Item, Double quantification and the meaning of shenme, 'what', in Chinese bare conditionals(1999-12-01) ;Lin, JW ;外國語文學系Department of Foreign Languages and LiteraturesThis paper shows that the semantics of shenme, 'what', in Chinese bare conditionals may exhibit a phenomenon of double quantification. I argue that such double quantification can be nicely accounted for it one adopts Carlson's (1977a, b) semantics of bare plurals and verb meanings as well as the following two assumptions: (i) shenme, 'what', can be a proform of bare NPs and hence has the same kind of denotation as bare NPs, and (ii) Chinese bare NPs are names of kinds of things. This analysis of Chinese bare conditionals lends support to Carlson's approach to bare plurals despite Wilkinson's (1991) criticisms. I also show that an extension of Heim's (1987) analysis of what as 'something of kind x' to Chinese shenme 'what' encounters problems when shenme 'what' shared constituent of a predicate which applies to kinds and another predicate which applies to objects.Item type:Item, Fault diagnosis for linear analog circuits(2001) ;Lin, JW ;Lee, CL ;Su, CC ;Chen, JE電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper presents a novel scheme to diagnose single and double faults for linear analog circuits. The scheme first proposes a simple transformation procedure to transform the tested linear analog circuit into a discrete signal flow graph, then constructs "diagnosing evaluators," which model the faulty components, to form a diagnosis configuration to diagnose the faults through digital simulation. This saves much computation time. Furthermore, a simple method to un-power OP's is also proposed to differentiate equivalent faults. The scheme can diagnose faults in passive components as well as active faults in OP's.Item type:Item, Fault diagnosis for linear analog circuits(2000) ;Lin, JW ;Lee, CL ;Su, CC ;Chen, JE電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper presents a novel scheme to diagnose single and double faults for linear analog circuits. We argue that temporal reference of such sentences can be resolved by selectional restrictions of two empty tenses, i.e., covert present tense and covert past tense. We show that while covert present tense must select a homogeneous situation as its complement, covert past tense must select a heterogeneous situation as its complement. We also argue that covert tenses must be distinguished from empty tenses that agree with time adverbs, because the latter do not have selectional restrictions. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. For simplex sentences without time adverb or aspectual marker, I show that temporal reference is correlated with aktionsart or grammatical viewpoint. For sentences with an aspectual marker, I discuss the temporal semantics of le and guo in detail, showing how their tense/aspectual meanings contribute to temporal reference. I propose to analyze le as an event realization operator and guo as an anteriority operator. For subordinate clauses, I show that temporal reference of complement clauses of verbs is basically determined by verbal semantics of individual verbs, which may impose some temporal restriction on the temporal location of the embedded event. As for relative clauses and temporal adverbial clauses, many different factors such as lexical verbal semantics, referential properties of determiners, lifetime effect of noun phrases, semantic or pragmatics constraints on temporal connectives, inference rules and world knowledge, etc., all interact to help determine temporal reference. Many data discussed in this paper indicate that there is not evidence of (covert) tenses in Chinese. Therefore, challenging work remains for those who have claimed that Tense Phrase is projected in Chinese phrase structures.Item type:Item, The reliability of amorphous silicon thin film transistors for LCD under DC and AC stresses(1998) ;Cheng, HC ;Huang, CY ;Lin, JW ;Kung, JJH電子工程學系及電子研究所In this paper, hydrogenated amorphous silicon and polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors have been stressed with various conditions including DC and AC. The charge trapping and defect state creation are the two mechanisms to degrade the transfer characteristics of the TFTs. For a-Si.H TFTs, the charge trapping occurs at high silicon content of silicon nitride (SiNx) gate dielectrics or performs at high gate electrical field. Defect stale creation dominates at low hydrogen concentration in a-Si:H. At the performance of AC signal, the degradation of transfer curves is associated with bias, frequency, and duty cycle. The characteristics of a-Si:PI TFTs shift more with increasing bias voltage and duty cycle. For the frequency effect, the transfer characteristics of a-Si:H TFTs decrease with increasing AC frequency under negative AC signal stress, however, they are independent of the frequency under positive AC signal stress.
