Item type:Item, Generation of optical waveforms in 1.3-mu m SOA-based fiber lasers(2012-01-01) ;Wang, J. -Y. ;Lin, K. -H. ;Chen, H. -R. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsPassive optical waveform generation is obtained in fiber lasers using a 1.3-mu m semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as the gain medium. Various waveforms, including square wave, staircase wave, triangular wave, pulse, and dark pulse are generated in SOA-based fiber lasers by adjusting intracavity polarization controllers. The passive waveform generation might be attributed to the SOA gain dynamics and the enhanced nonlinear interaction at the 1.3-mu m zero dispersion wavelength of traditional single-mode fiber (SMF), as well as the interference effect between the two sub-cavities of fiber laser. With figure-8 cavity configuration, 1250th-order harmonic pulses have been successfully demonstrated. We have also obtained a free-running SOA-based fiber laser with 3-dB spectral width of 16 nm, and the center wavelength can be tuned over 45 nm range.Item type:Item, Q-switched and mode-locked pulses generation in Nd : GdVO4 laser with dual loss-modulation mechanism(2008-04-01) ;Lin, J. -H. ;Lin, K. -H. ;Hsu, H. -H. ;Hsieh, W. -F.光電工程學系Regular and robust Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) pulses are produced in Nd:GdVO4 laser by the integration of nonlinear mirror and semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The threshold of QML operation is increased by putting the SESAM in laser cavity with large beam radius. The nonlinear mirror absorber can further increase nonlinear loss modulation of pulses to produce the stable and periodic QML pulses.
