Item type:Item, A fully all-planar integrated Ka-band FSK transceiver module(2001) ;Lee, CJ ;Hung, TP ;Lin, SC ;Wu, HSTsai, CYAn open RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) architecture employing ACSS (Advanced Coplanar Strips System) guiding technology is presented in this paper. This approach can integrate all the RF front-end components in one module using conventional PCB (printed circuit board) fabrication process. A 10 Mb/s FSK signal is upconverted to 30.18 GHz and 30.28 GHz and broadcasted through a cone-shaped antenna at power level of 10 dBm. The received signal is directly converted to baseband by even harmonic quadrature mixer, which shows a great isolation of 30 dB between RF and LO signal. The measured waveforms of the reported transceiver demonstrate the potential of constructing the wireless system with all-planar integrated circuits.Item type:Item, A novel dispersion slope compensator for the WDM transmission system(1999) ;Chi, S ;Lin, SC ;Dung, JC ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsA new dispersion slope compensator by writing the Bragg gratings at different positions in a dispersion compensation fiber is proposed for the WDM transmission system to compensate for the accumulated dispersion of each channel.Item type:Item, A study of alert-based collaborative defense(2005) ;Hsin, WY ;Tseng, SS ;Lin, SC ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceWe propose a framework for collaborative defense by extending the original distributed intrusion detection model. It contains alert's collector extractor analyzer report's generator alert warehouse and alert's analysis. Besides, we develop a hybrid approach to share security information like raising the wolf smoke to warn partners. By the security information sharing, the members of CSIRT can obtain the solutions of defense, such as blacklists, detection rules, and security knowledge about alerts. The framework provides a solution to build effective cooperative security teams for academia and industry We evaluate the feasibility of our framework and track the spreading behaviors of the SQL Slammer Worm. As a result, we can deploy security system more widely and detect the aggressor's behavior more accurately. The alert-based collaborative defense mechanism can help members to evaluate the impact of the threats and take proper actions to mitigate the risk.Item type:Item, An explicit approximation to the wavelength of nonlinear waves(1999-02-01) ;Chang, HK ;Lin, SC ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringAn explicit and concise approximation to the wavelength in which the effect of nonlinearity is involved and presented in terms of wave height, wave period, water depth and gravitational acceleration. The present approximation is in a rational form of which Fenton and Mckee's (1990, Coastal Engng 14, 499-513) approximation is reserved in the numerator and the wave steepness is involved ill the denominator. The rational form of this approximation can be converted to an alternative form of a power-series polynomial which indicates that the wavelength increases with wave height and decreases with water depth. If the determined coefficients in the present approximation are fixed, the approximating formula can provide a good agreement with the: wavelengths numerically obtained by Rienecker and Fenton's (1981, J. Fluid Mech. 104, 119-137) Fourier series method, but has large deviations when waves of small amplitude are in deep water or all waves are in shallow water, The present approximation with variable coefficients can provide excellent predictions of the wavelengths for both long and short waves even, for high waves. In recent years, several intrusion detection systems designed to identify and detect possible intrusion behaviors. In this work, an intrusion detection model is proposed to for building an intrusion detection system which can solve problems involved in building an intrusion detection systems, including pattern representation. computability, performance, extendibility and maintenance problems. In this model, IDML is first designed to express intrusion patterns, and these patterns are transformed into intrusion pattern state machines. Once the intrusion pattern state machines are obtained, the corresponding intrusion detection mechanism that can use these state machines to detect intrusions is designed. To evaluate the performance of our model, an IDML-based intrusion detection experimental system based upon this architecture has been implemented.Item type:Item, Application of optical monitor to evaluate the coagulation of pulp wastewater(1998) ;Chou, SS ;Lin, SC ;Huang, CP ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringCoagulation/flocculation process is an important part of the solid/liquid separation in a wastewater treatment plant. However, conventional methods to determine coagulant dosage have led to poor results in real-time dosing control for the highly changeable quality of influent. In this study, we employ the photometric dispersion analyzer (PDA) to assess the feasibility of monitoring pulp suspended solids coagulation in pulp wastewater by batch trials. The use of PDA in the batch system to monitor the coagulation of filamentous microorganisms is also included. Batch test results indicate that PDA monitoring is an effective technique to reflect the state of aggregation of filament- and fiber-type solids and, therefore, can provide as a reliable index for determining the optimal dosage. In addition, in our coagulant dosing control system, the monitoring point of PDA should be set at the effluent of the rapid mixing unit We also assess the feasibility using PDA monitoring in a continuous system simulating the wastewater treatment processes. Results demonstrate that stable PDA output can accurately reflect the changes of influent turbidity and coagulant dosage. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. Physical characteristics and microstructure of nanoparticles, including particle morphology, phase transformation, powder compositions and far-infrared emissivity, have been investigated. The laser-ablated nanoparticles exhibit two kinds of particle size distribution with 7-15 (70-90%) and 40-100 nm (10-30%). Nanoparticles synthesized at lower laser fluences show poor crystallinity but rich Zn composition. While increasing laser fluence, better crystalline nanoparticles with rich Zr composition were obtained. It was found that both composition and morphology of nanoparticles change with laser fluence. The average far-infrared emissivity of the nanoparticles varies with crystallinity of nanoparticles. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. With the rapid development of network technology, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks become one of the most important issues today. In this paper, we propose a DDoS ontology to provide a common terminology for describing the DDoS models consisting of the Profile model (the representation of the behaviors of system and users) and the Defense model (the descriptions of Detection and Filter methodologies). Also, the Evaluation strategy based upon current statuses of users' behaviors is used to evaluate the degree of the intrusion tolerance of the proposed models during DDoS attacks. Based upon the ontology, four KCs (Profile model, Evaluation strategy, Detection methodology, and Filter methodology Knowledge Classes) and their relationships are then proposed, where each KC may contain a set of sub-KCs or knowledge represented as a natural rule format. For an arbitrarily given network environment, the default knowledge in the Profile KC and the Evaluation KC, the appropriate detection features in the Detection KC, and the suitable access control list policies in the Filter KC can be easily extracted and adopted by our proposed integrated knowledge acquisition framework. We are now implementing a NORM-based DDoS intrusion tolerance system for DDoS attacks to evaluate the proposed models. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. One layer is poly (9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-diyl) (PFO) host blended with a small amount of poly (2-methoxy-5 (2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene), another layer is either pure PFO or PFO host blended with green-emitting polyfluorene copolymers. Such homojunction devices are solution processed and show efficient white light emission. The peak luminance 3000 cd/m(2) is reached at 10 V with Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinate (0.34, 0.34). The allowed transmission distance for the system using mostly normal dispersion fiber is longer than those using mostly anomalous dispersion fiber.Item type:Item, Evaluation of buckling and first-ply failure, probabilities of composite laminates(1998-05-01) ;Lin, SC ;Kam, TY ;Chu, KH ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringA procedure for failure probability evaluation of composite laminates subjected to in plane loads is proposed. The material properties, fiber angles and layer thicknesses of the laminates are treated as random variables in the reliability analysis. The statistics of first-ply failure loads and buckling strengths of the laminates are determined via the stochastic finite element method. The failure probabilities of the laminates which are susceptible to buckling and first-ply failure are computed using the statistics obtained in the stochastic finite element analysis. The feasibility and accuracy of the present approach are validated using the results obtained via the Monte-Carlo method. A number of examples of reliability analysis of composite laminates subject to in-plane loads are given to illustrate the applications of the procedure. This method can be applied to arbitrary combinations of polymers with no restriction on solvents. As an example, a hole-blocking layer is successfully spin coated on the common p-type emissive polymer layers. One green- and two blue-emitting polymers are chosen as the emissive layers. The electron-hole balance and efficiency are significantly improved by the addition of hole-blocking layer. The electroluminescence efficiency can be increased up to nine times, while the luminance up to seven times. In particular, 1.5 cd/A is obtained for deep blue emission from poly(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene) with 1,3,5-tris(N-phenylbenzimidazol-2-yl)benzene spin coated as the hole-blocking material. The numerical results are consistent with the previous experimental results. The pre-chirping and pre-shaping method is used to reduce the timing jitter and the dispersive wave in a dispersion compensated soliton transmission system. We have found that the pre-chirping and pre-shaping method can stabilize the variation of pulse shape due to the perturbation of the dispersion compensation fiber and the timing jitter can be greatly reduced. The waveguide cavity is made in printed-circuit-board process, first using a routed cut followed by a plated via-through-hole. Measurements show that the oscillator stabilized by the resonator delivers an output power of 14 dBm at 15 GHz and a phase noise of -98 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset from the carrier, under 5-V single bias. Experiments indicate the predominance of the waveguide resonator by a 13-dB phase noise improvement at 100 kHz offset against the microstrip oscillator.Item type:Item, Prediction of the bonding states of cysteines using the support vector machines based on multiple feature vectors and cysteine state sequences(2004-06-01) ;Chen, YC ;Lin, SC ;Lin, CJ ;Hwang, JK生物科技學系The support vector machine (SVM) method is used to predict the bonding states of cysteines. Besides using local descriptors such as the local sequences, we include global information, such as amino acid compositions and the patterns of the states of cysteines (bonded or nonbonded), or cysteine state sequences, of the proteins. We found that SVM based on local sequences or global amino acid compositions yielded similar prediction accuracies for the data set comprising 4136 cysteine-containing segments extracted from 969 nonhomologous proteins. However, the SVM method based on multiple feature vectors (combining local sequences and global amino acid compositions) significantly improves the prediction accuracy, from 80% to 86%. If coupled with cysteine state sequences, SVM based on multiple feature vectors yields 90% in overall prediction accuracy and a 0.77 Matthews correlation coefficient, around 10% and 22% higher than the corresponding values obtained by SVM based on local sequence information. System parameters such as material properties, plate thickness, and lamina strengths of a laminated composite plate are treated as baseline random variables. The statistics of the baseline random variables obtained from experiments are used in a stochastic finite-element analysis for computing the statistical moments of stresses in the laminated composite plate. An appropriate failure criterion from which the statistical moments of first-ply failure load are derived via a first-order second moment method is used to construct the limit state equation of the plate in the probabilistic failure analysis. The reliability of the laminated plate is then computed using an assumed probability distribution function of the first-ply failure load. The feasibility and accuracy of the present method are validated by the experimental data of centrally loaded laminated composite plates with different layups. The suitability of several commonly used failure criteria for reliability analysis of laminated composite plates is also investigated by means of several examples.Item type:Item, Protocol based foresight anomaly intrusion detection system(2003) ;Tsai, MK ;Lin, SC ;Tseng, SS ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIn recent years, a lot of network intrusion detection systems (NIDSs) have been developed to assist administrators in detecting the malevolent attacks. However, most of the NIDSs may not prevent attacks in advance. In order to prevent attacks, a Finite Automata Based Foresight Network Intrusion Detection System (FA-FNIDS) will be proposed in this paper. The FA-FNIDS can prevent attacks and further find novel attacks. Finally, three experiments will also be done for evaluating the efficiency of our FA-FNIDS.Item type:Item, Reductions of soliton interactions and timing jitters by chirped fiber Bragg grating filters(1997-12-01) ;Chi, S ;Lin, SC ;Dung, JC ;交大名義發表光電工程學系This letter numerically investigates a comparison between soliton interaction and timing jitter effects using transmission fiber that contains: 1) the zigzag-sliding-frequency Fabry-Perot filters (ZSF FPF's) alone and 2) both the ZSF FPF's and chirped fiber Bragg grating filters (CFBGF's), We have found that the latter scheme is more effective for reducing the soliton interactions and noise-induced timing jitters, because the CFBGF's introduce a large positive second-order dispersion and plays the dual role of a filter and a dispersion compensation fiber.Item type:Item, Synthesis and magnetic properties of highly arrayed nickel-phosphate nanotubes(2005-07-01) ;Lin, SC ;Chen, SY ;Cheng, SY ;Lin, JC交大名義發表In this study, nanotube arrays of nickel-phosphate have been developed by electroless deposition into sub-micro to nanometer sized pores of the porous alumina templates by hypophosphite electrolytic solution composed of NiSO4, NaH2PO2, NaC2H3O2 and Na3C6H5O7 at 80-100 degrees C and PH = 3-6. The dimension of the formed nanotubes has 1 mu m in length, 200-300 nm in diameter and 80-150 nm in thickness of tube walls. Transmission electron microscopy examination of the nanotubes clearly show amorphous hallow structure with a average grain size of similar to 5 nm. The hysteresis loops of the nanotube arrays show a coercive field of about 200 Oe under treatment in 95%N-2/5%H-2 atmosphere at 500 degrees C as the magnetic field was applied along parallel and perpendicular to tube axis. The nanotube arrays also exhibit an anisotropic magnetic property with easier saturation along the perpendicular direction. However, both coercive field and saturation of remanent magnetization of the nanotube arrays become lower while continually increasing heat treatment temperature up to 900 degrees C.
