Item type:Item, A Bone-Guided Cochlear Implant CMOS Microsystem Preserving Acoustic Hearing(2017-01-01) ;Qian, Xin-Hong ;Wu, Yi-Chung ;Yang, Tzu-Yi ;Cheng, Cheng-HsiangChu, Hsing-ChienIn this paper, a bone-guided cochlear implant (BGCI) SOC microsystem is proposed and designed. The BGCI microsystem uses four or more electrodes placed on the bone surface of the cochlea and one on the round window to preserve partially the acoustic hearing. The external SOC of the BGCI processes the acoustic signals and generates stimulation patterns and command that are transmitted to the implanted chip through the 13.56MHz wireless power and bidirectional data telemetry. The implanted chip with 4-channel high-voltage-tolerant stimulator generates biphasic stimulation currents up to 800 mu A and sends back the power indication and electrode impedance error signals to the external SOC. Electrical tests on the fabricated BGCI has been performed. The in-vivo animal tests on guinea pigs has shown the evoked Wave III of EABR waveforms. The proposed BGCI can be applied to patients with high-frequency hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness.Item type:Item, A HEARING MODEL TO ESTIMATE MANDARIN SPEECH INTELLIGIBILITY FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED PATIENTS(2015) ;Tsai, Pei-Chun ;Lin, Shih-Ting ;Lee, Wen-Chung ;Hsu, Chung-ChienChi, Tai-ShihA hearing model, which is parameterized by hearing thresholds, degrees of loudness recruitment and reductions of frequency resolution of a hearing-impaired (HI) patient, is proposed in this paper. RDF-2019 enhances the DATC RDF to span the entire RTL-to-GDS IC implementation flow, from logic synthesis to detailed routing. The new release represents a significant revision of the previously-reported RDF-2018 flow. Noteworthy vertical extensions include addition of logic synthesis starting from pure behavioral RTL Verilog RTL; floorplanning that includes initial DEF creation, I/O placement and PDN layout generation; and clock tree synthesis between placement legalization and global routing. A number of horizontal extensions to RDF are achieved by incorporating additional tool options at the static timing analysis, global placement, gate sizing, and detailed routing stages of the flow. Further, for the first time, multiple open-source realizations of the entire RDF tool chain are available. Last, RDF-2019 provides significantly enhanced support of and interoperability with industry-standard tools and design formats (LEF/DEF, SPEF, Liberty, SDC, etc.). We illustrate the configuration and use of RDF-2019, with example results on open as well as commercial design enablements.Item type:Item, DATC RDF: An Academic Flow from Logic Synthesis to Detailed Routing(2018-01-01) ;Jung, Jinwook ;Jiang, Iris Hui-Ru ;Chen, Jianli ;Lin, Shih-TingLi, Yih-LangIn this paper, we present DATC Robust Design Flow (RDF) from logic synthesis to detailed routing. We further include detailed placement and detailed routing tools based on recent EDA research contests. We also demonstrate RDF in a scalable cloud infrastructure. Design methodology and cross-stage optimization research can be conducted via RDF.Item type:Item, Design and In Vivo Verification of a CMOS Bone-Guided Cochlear Implant Microsystem(2019-11-01) ;Qian, Xin-Hong ;Wu, Yi-Chung ;Yang, Tzu-Yi ;Cheng, Cheng-HsiangChu, Hsing-ChienObjective: To develop and verify a CMOS bone-guided cochlear implant (BGCI) microsystem with electrodes placed on the bone surface of the cochlea and the outside of round window for treating high-frequency hearing loss. Methods: The BGCI microsystem consists of an external unit and an implanted unit. The external system-on-chip is designed to process acoustic signals through an acquisition circuit and an acoustic DSP processor to generate stimulation patterns and commands that are transmitted to the implanted unit through a 13.56 MHz wireless power and bidirectional data telemetry. In the wireless power telemetry, a voltage doubler/tripler (2X/3X) active rectifier is used to enhance the power conversion efficiency and generate 2 and 3 V output voltages. In the wireless data telemetry, phase-locked loop based binary phase-shift keying and load-shift keying modulators/demodulators are adopted for the downlink and uplink data through high-Q coils, respectively. The implanted chip with four-channel high-voltage-tolerant stimulator generates biphasic stimulation currents up to 800 mu A. Results: Electrical tests on the fabricated BGCI microsystem have been performed to verify the chip functions. The in vivo animal tests in guinea pigs have shown the evoked third wave of electrically evoked auditory brainstem response waveforms. It is verified that auditory nerves can be successfully stimulated and acoustic hearing can be partially preserved. Conclusion and Significance: Different from traditional cochlear implants, the proposed BGCI microsystem is less invasive, preserves partially acoustic hearing, and provides an effective alternative for treating high-frequency hearing loss.Item type:Item, Innovative plasma alignment method in flexible liquid crystal display films(2007) ;Liu, Kang-Hung ;Lee, Chin-Yang ;Ho, Cheng-Ta ;Cheng, Horng-LongLin, Shih-TingLiquid crystals (LCs) in flexible cell were aligned on polyimide (PI) surface treated by a paperlike plasma beam. The beam had energy of 450 eV and incident angle of 70 with respect to normal flexible indium-zinc oxide-coated substrate. The pretilt angle and anchoring energy of LCs on plasma-aligned PI surface were almost identical to the angle and energy of the rubbing PI. However, optical performance of the plasma-aligned cell was superior to the rubbing cell under various bending conditions. Furthermore, such noncontact alignment technology is suitable for large area and roll-to-roll fabrication of flexible LC films. This paper reports on the use of ratiometric nonlinear optical microscopy to reveal the ratio of two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) to second harmonic generation (SHG) and forward to backward (F/B) SHG from single collagen fibers only in submucosa of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. This makes it possible to accurately differentiate among the four stages of esophageal cancer, providing results that are in good agreement with histopathology. Furthermore, it is confirmed by polarization-dependent SHG that the varied SHG response in esophageal cancer tissues is mainly from the shrinkage in diameter of collagen fibers instead of the collagen triple helixes altered by cancer cells. Based on the results of TPEF/SHG and F/B SHG ratio, they can cooperatively improve the precision of diagnostics on esophageal cancer and could be transferred to other types of cancer diseases with changed collagen fibers. Impact statement The issue of classifying esophageal cancer at various developmental stages is crucial for determining the optimized treatment protocol for the patients, as well as the prognosis. Precision improvement in staging esophageal cancer keeps seeking quantitative and analytical imaging methods that could augment histopathological techniques. In this work, we used nonlinear optical microscopy for ratiometric analysis on the intrinsic signal of two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) and second harmonic generation (SHG) from single collagen fibers only in submucosa of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). The blind tests of TPEF/SHG and forward (F)/backward (B) SHG were demonstrated to compare with the histology conclusion. The discussion of sensitivity and specificity was provided via statistical comparison between the four stages of esophageal cancer. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of using these two ratios in combination for staging ESCC.Item type:Item, NCTUcell: A DDA-Aware Cell Library Generator for FinFET Structure with Implicitly Adjustable Grid Map(2019-01-01) ;Li, Yih-Lang ;Lin, Shih-Ting ;Nishizawa, Shinichi ;Su, Hong-YonFong, Ming-JieFor 7nm technology node, cell placement with drain-to-drain abutment (DDA) requires additional filler cells, increasing placement area. This is the first work to fully automatically synthesize a DDA-aware cell library with optimized number of drains on cell boundary based on ASAP 7nm PDK. We propose a DDA-aware dynamic programming based transistor placement. Previous works ignore the use of M0 layer in cell routing. We firstly propose an ILP-based M0 routing planning. With M0 routing, the congestion of M1 routing can be reduced and the pin accessibility can be improved due to the diminished use of M2 routing. To improve the routing resource utilization, we propose an implicitly adjustable grid map, making the maze routing able to explore more routing solutions. Experimental results show that block placement using the DDA-aware cell library requires less filler cells than that using traditional cell library by 70.9%, which achieves a block area reduction rate of 5.7%.
