Item type:Item, Compact Filtering Branch-Line Coupler With Source-Load Coupling(2016) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Wu, Jen-Yi ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringSource-load coupling is inserted to a compact filtering branch-line coupler for generating transmission zeros. Quarter-wavelength stepped-impedance resonators are employed as the resonating elements for circuit miniaturization. All inter-resonator couplings are of inductive type, and the source-load coupling between adjacent feeds is of capacitive type. Proper source-load coupling is extracted for control of attenuation level in stopband. The realized circuit area is only 31.4% of that of a conventional branch-line coupler. Measurement results have good agreement with the simulation data.Item type:Item, Distributed and Lumped-Element Realizations of Wideband Branch-Line Hybrids with Arbitrary Power Division(2009) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Chiou, Yi-Chyun ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA two-section branch-line coupler with an arbitrary output power division is realized by lumped and distributed elements. Based on the transmission line theory, as well as the basic circuit theory, transcendental equations are derived and formulated to determine its circuit parameters. For circuit miniaturization, the transmission-line sections are replaced by either a lumped pi-network and realized with lumped capacitors. Several design curves are provided for ease of circuit implementation. Two circuits with output power division ratios vertical bar Delta vertical bar= 3 dB are fabricated and measured.Item type:Item, Dual-Mode Dual-Band Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Transmission Zeros(2010-01-01) ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringDual-mode dual-band bandpass filters are developed based on a single ring resonator. The ring is composed of two half-wave stepped-impedance resonators with short-circuited ends, which are connected to ground vias by short high-impedance sections, providing inductive coupling between the resonating modes and hence bandwidth control. Experimental filters are fabricated and measured for validation. Skew-symmetric feed structure is employed in the first circuit for enhancing the frequency selectivity around the second band. Source-load coupling is incorporated with the second design to create transmission zeros on both sides of the two passbands, greatly improving the performance in transition bands. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Dual-Mode Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Asymmetric Inductive Coupling and Its Miniaturization(2012-09-01) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesDual-mode ring resonator filters are implemented with asymmetric inductive perturbation for creating transmission zeros on both sides of the passband. In analysis, dependence of the resonance modes and the zeros on positions and sizes of both the inductive and capacitive perturbations is investigated. Under certain conditions, the even- and odd-mode frequencies for a capacitively perturbed ring are the same as the odd and even ones, respectively, for a ring with inductive perturbation. Theoretical background is clearly explained how the two transmission zeros are split up from the center frequency. Two dual-mode ring resonator filters are fabricated and measured for demonstration. To obtain a miniaturized circuit area, the 1-lambda ring trace is folded into a double-ring or spiral configuration. The inductive perturbation is chosen as the crossover and implemented by a short high-impedance coplanar waveguide interconnection in the ground plane of the microstrip. Measurement results show good agreement with the simulation responses.Item type:Item, Filtering Rat-Race Coupler With Transmission Zeros Using Compact Miniaturized Hairpin Resonators(2015) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Wu, Jen-Yi ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new compact filtering rat-race coupler is implemented by a 2x2 cross coupled configuration based on compact miniaturized hairpin resonators. Passband responses with transmission zeros are synthesized by an (n+4)x(n+4) coupling matrix. The zeros are created in the output ports by adding source-load coupling and their analytical expressions are derived. An experimental circuit is fabricated and measured. The circuit area is only 23.2% of that of a conventional rat-race coupler. Measured magnitude and phase responses of the four-port S-parameters show good agreement with simulation data.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Dual-Mode Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter with a Wide Passband(2014-01-01) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Tang, Shao-Chan ;Chung, Shyh-Jong傳播研究所Dual-mode ring resonator filter is designed to have a relatively wide passband with a miniaturized circuit area. The miniaturization is achieved by folding the ring trace to a spiral configuration. The two degenerate modes are split up by an asymmetric inductive perturbation. As a result, the circuit area is only 29% of that of a conventional ring. The strong I/O coupling required by the wide passband property is implemented by adding an impedance transformer for matching the external quality factor (Q(ext)) with the circuit bandwidth. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Dual-Mode Spiral-Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter(2012) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA dual-mode ring resonator filter is devised to have a miniaturized size and its performance investigated. By placing an inductive perturbation at an asymmetric position, with respect to the input and output ports, two transmission zeros are created on the both sides of the passband. The miniaturization is achieved by folding the microstrip ring trace into a spiral configuration, incorporating with metallic via-holes and coplanar waveguide sections as the interconnection. The circuit size is only 20.5% of that of a conventional ring resonator. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Miniaturized Microstrip Quadruple-Mode Ring Resonator Filter With Quasi-Elliptic Passband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA compact quadruple-mode ring resonator is proposed for synthesis of a quasi-elliptic bandpass filter. The resonator is composed of four half-wavelength rings connected to a single grounded via. For miniaturization, the ring areas are overlapped and the crossovers are implemented by short CPW sections in the ground plane. As a result, the resonator uses about 50% area of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Among the four rings, all coupling coefficients are of inductive type realized by shorted high-impedance and coupled-line sections. Two zeros are created by capacitive source-load coupling, and the response is synthesized by the coupling matrix method. Agreement between simulation and measurement results of a realized circuit validates the approach.Item type:Item, NEW COMPACT TRIPLE-MODE RESONATOR FILTER WITH EMBEDDED INDUCTIVE AND CAPACITIVE CROSS COUPLING(2013) ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesTwo new compact planar triple-mode resonators embedded with inductive or capacitive cross coupling are proposed for bandpass filter design. Both resonators consist of a shorted half-wave ring. In the first resonator, two shorted half-wave sections with inductive coupling are connected to the shorted via of the ring. In the second, two quarter-wave sections with capacitive coupling are connected. The inductive coupling is realized by a short grounded high-impedance segment, and the capacitive coupling is implemented by an interdigital capacitor. When both the inductive and capacitive coupling coefficients are properly realized, a transmission zero can be created at designated position in either upper or lower stopband. The shorted ring is accommodated inside the area of the other two resonance sections so that a compact area can be achieved. As compared with a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter, the proposed resonators use only 46.7% and 22.5% in area. Two triple-mode resonator bandpass filters are fabricated and measured to validate the ideas. Measurement results have good agreement with the simulation responses.Item type:Item, New Dual-Mode Dual-Band Bandpass Filter With Quasi-Elliptic Function Pass bands and Controllable Bandwidths(2010) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Lok, U-Hou ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesNew dual-mode dual-band bandpass filters with quasi-elliptic function responses are devised based on a single stepped-impedance resonator. The center of the resonator is grounded through a short high-impedance section which is equivalent to an inductor for providing coupling between the resonant modes. In addition, in order to increase the degree of freedom for the dual-band design, an interdigital capacitor is introduced so that both center frequencies and bandwidths of the two passbands can be controlled. Moreover, with the aid of source-load coupling, two extra transmission zeros can be created close to the passband edges and hence greatly improve the filter selectivity between the two passbands. Two filters are fabricated and measured to validate the proposed idea. The measured results show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, New Miniaturized Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2013) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesA new configuration for ring resonator is proposed for bandpass filter design with size reduction and stopband extension. The planar self-coupled ring is twisted at its middle and a short CPW section is implemented in the ground plane for the three-dimensional interconnection. The resonator has two resonance modes and the filter possesses one transmission zero on the high side of the passband. With a pair of open low-impedance stubs attached to the ring, the circuit has an area of only 9.65% of that of the conventional ring resonator filter, and the upper stopband is extended up to higher than five times the center frequency. Measured results of a fabricated prototype circuit show good agreement with the simulation.Item type:Item, Oligothiophenes and alkyl side-chain arrangement the structure-property study of their diketopyrrolopyrrole copolymers for organic photovoltaics(2018-10-01) ;Wu, Jhao-Lin ;Lin, Chiao-Wen ;Golder, Jan ;Lin, Tsu-WeiChen, Chin-TiWe have synthesized and characterized a series of diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-oligothiophene copolymers, of which the number of regioregular oligothiophene ring (2T, 3T and 4T) and the arrangement of the alkyl side-chain on regioirregular quarterthiophene (4T0, 4T1 and 4T2) are variable. The side chains with regioregular lead to more planar copolymer backbones and higher short circuit current (J(sc)), but backbone torsion (due to regioirregular side chains) generates greater open-circuit voltages (V-OC) for DPP-oligothiophene copolymers. The increasing thiophene ring progressively raises HOMO energy level of copolymers but marginally affects their band gaps. Additionally, the HOMO energy level was found declined significantly with side-chain regioirregularity, because of reducing length of pi-conjugation. The HDDPP4T0 exhibits the strongest absorption, extensive network structure, and high hole mobility (mu(h )= 6.04 x 10(-4)cm(2)V(-1) s(-1)). These characteristics contribute to the exceptional high J(SC) of 18.96 mA/cm(2) for OPV with PCE = 6.12%. However, the HDDPP4T1 having an optimal combination of pi-conjugation and energy level affords the second highest V-OC (0.73 V) and the third highest J(SC) (16.89 mA/cm(2)), resulting the best PCE of 7.51% among all. X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and space-charge-limited-current (SCLC) measurements reveal that the solvent additive of diphenylether (DPE) enables PC71BM-blended copolymers thin film in crystallinic fibril with enhanced hole mobility.Item type:Item, Ultra-Compact Shorted Ring Resonator Bandpass Filter With Wide Upper Stopband(2014) ;Lin, Tsu-Wei ;Kuo, Jen-Tsai ;Chung, Shyh-Jong ;傳播研究所Institute of Communication StudiesAn ultra-compact second-order bandpass filter with stopband extension is implemented with shorted ring resonators. In the design, the two resonances of the structure are separately controlled by electric and magnetic coupling between the rings. Two transmission zeros on both sides of the passband are created through the multipath effect between the 1/0 ports. Circuit miniaturization is accomplished by attaching an open low-impedance stub to each shorted ring. The upper stopband with a rejection better than 30 dB is extended to 4.32 times the passband frequency. The circuit area is only 8.8% of that of a conventional dual-mode ring resonator filter. Measured results show good agreement with the simulation.
