Item type:Item, A novel hybrid MCDM approach for outsourcing vendor selection: A case study for a semiconductor company in Taiwan(2010-07-01) ;Lin, Ya-Ti ;Lin, Chia-Li ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung科技管理研究所Outsourcing manufacturing is a trend in today's global business operations. Vendor selection is an essential factor affecting outsourcing operations performance and has been determined as a multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel hybrid MCDM technique to cope with the complex and interactive vendor evaluation and selection problem which can determine the structural relationships and the interrelationships amongst all the evaluation's dimensions and support the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method to arrange appropriate weightings to each dimension and criterion in the evaluation model by summarizing the opinions of the experts. Finally, the overall performance ranking of all alternatives can be obtained to assist the decision making. Taiwan semiconductor industry is the largest provider in worldwide market. It is vertically disintegrated and outsourcing is a main stream practice. Wafer-testing is a critical manufacturing step in the semiconductor supply chain that distinguishes whether the IC can meet the specifications. Consequently, it's crucial to establish a thorough model for selecting the wafer-testing vendors in order to achieve the success of the outsourcing operation. A case study of a Taiwan semiconductor company in selecting its wafer-testing outsourcing vendor by using the proposed MCDM technique is demonstrated to enhance the decision making quality. The results and proposed solution can be referred to by not only the semiconductor companies, but also other industries so that they can improve the vendor selection process in order to achieve a higher performance and satisfaction level. However, there are several reasons that cause companies in Taiwan to be reluctant in using this tool. In this empirical paper, it provides a more distinctive direction to enhance the benefit and operational efficiency when seeking the use of e-auction. The obstacles for applying e-auction have been explored based on expert interviews and research data found from some high-tech firms in Taiwan. Decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method has been utilized to evaluate the connection and relationship among the four criteria, which influence decision-making of e-auction adoption. The purpose of utilizing DEMATEL is to realize the relationship between all criteria, as well as finding the optimal solution for firms to adapt to e-auction. The research outcome reveals that the criterion of Internal Resistances is the primary factor that influences the adoption of e-auction, while Operational Costs and External Resistances tend to be affected by Internal Resistances. The results of this research can be used to support firms in implementing e-auction tool more efficiently and gain the most benefit consequently.Item type:Item, The future development of global LCD TV industry(2007-01-01) ;Pan, Lee-Yun ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Liao, Ming-Yu ;Lin, Ya-Ti交大名義發表The popularity of notebook PC creates the first high peak of TFT-LCD industry and the replacement of CRT monitor by LCD monitor makes this industry reach the second high peak. Now, the LCD TV shipment is the key driver to the third high peak in global TFT-LCD industry. It is out of question that the potential market of LCD TV is large and appealing, but not realized now. The LCD TV market is growing but not fast enough. All panels makers care about when most customers will buy LCD TV. However, there are still some hurdles to impede the sales growth of LCD TV. Only the barriers are removed or disappeared, the market will accelerate its growth. In view of the potential profits in LCD TV industry, more players than expected build its brands to compete the market share, not only original TV vendors, but panel makers, IT giants, and distributors. In this paper, we would also make market forecasts under different scenarios to take uncertainty into consideration. The potential market size will be realized in the future without doubt. But if supply and demand don't have good match, some players will be hurt definitely.Item type:Item, The implementation of SCM concepts and information technology to the photomask supply management of IC companies(2010-07-01) ;Lin, Ya-Ti ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityOutsourcing has been the main business operation model in the semiconductor industry worldwide. The process of ensuring the overall performance of the subcontractor is essential to a successful operation. Photomask is a major outsourcing item in the semiconductor manufacturing. Its complexity, precision, and quality requirements have become crucial for 90-nm technology node and beyond. However, the photomask outsourcing management is currently inadequate. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework to resolve the inadequacies and enhance the photomask supply management in terms of quality, delivery, manufacturing management, and lower the risks and cost of photomask purchasing. The literature review of outsourcing, supply chain management, and information technology application has been conducted and obtained the most concerned management topics. In-depth interviews have also been performed with the experts in Taiwan's semiconductor industry to analyze the imperfection of current practice and fine-tune our proposed Internet-based supply management framework and system. Furthermore, this research has employed a real case study of a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company, which is the top 5 worldwide photomask buyer, to demonstrate the procedure, cost, and benefits. The estimated benefits of the proposed framework include overall performance improvement, significant cost reductions, and timely responses between suppliers and customers. This solution can be a general framework that is able to be tailored and applied in other supply domains in the semiconductor industry or other industries.Item type:Item, The Study on Identifying the Required Competences in the Emerging Fabless IC Design Service Industry(2010) ;Lin, Ya-Ti ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe semiconductor manufacturing model has evolved in the 1990s from entirely owned by Integrated Device Manufacturers (IDMs) to a specialized collaboration value chain composed of different key sub-industries. Continuous evolvement has driven the Integrated Circuit (IC) design service in becoming a critical and emerging sub-industry to the semiconductor value chain since year 2000. The IC design service companies are important enablers and mediators to integrate the IC design and manufacturing process in the semiconductor value chain. However, there is a lack of business or management related researches due to the fact that the IC design service industry is still in the emerging stage. Therefore, it is difficult to understand what competences an IC design service needs to possess in order to become successful. This research is composed of literature review and in-depth interviews with the focus group formed by the management members of the selected cases. Seven competences have been defined throughout the research as follow: IP design capability, integrated IP turnkey solution, customized design capability, integrated supply chain services for turnkey IC production, comprehensive design capability for various applications, effective reduction of new product development cost for customers, and integrated streamline manufacturing technologies for IC production. The contribution of this paper is to explore the essential competences of this emerging industry and to serve as a foundation for further extended researches.Item type:Item, Using DEMATEL method to explore the core competences and causal effect of the IC design service company: An empirical case study(2011-05-01) ;Lin, Ya-Ti ;Yang, Yeou-Herng ;Kang, Jin-Su ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng經營管理研究所The booming of Integrated Circuit (IC) design service has become a critical sub-industry to the evolution of semiconductor industry. In this paper, we took the case of a tier one IC design service company to explore the core competences of this emerging industry. Seven core competences are defined throughout the research. More specifically, this paper analyzes the in-depth of the interrelation among the core competences by utilizing the DEMATEL method. They are divided into causal and effect groups, enabling readers to gain a better understanding of the interactive relationship between them, as well as making suggestions for improvement to enhance their overall performance. The result has shown that the Intellectual Property (IP) design capability is the most important core competence. Enhancing five of the core competences in the causal group will improve the overall performance. Further, DEMATEL method is demonstrated as a useful approach in exploring the interrelationship.
