Item type:Item, A Balanced Digital Phase Shifter by a Novel Switching-Mode Topology(2013-06-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Chou, Yi-Chieh ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringA balanced digital phase shifter by a novel switching-mode topology is proposed. A 3-bit balanced digital phase shifter is given as an example, the working bandwidth of which is from 2.3 to 2.7 GHz. The proposed 3-bit balanced phase shifter comprises two balanced loaded-line phase shifters (90 degrees and 45 degrees) and six twist-line broadband 180 degrees phase shifters. The balanced loaded-line digital phase shifter changes phases while the even-or odd-mode signal is excited. The 180 degrees phase shifter controls the balanced signal to be even or odd mode. The commensurate transmission line filter is used as the biasing circuit.Item type:Item, A Green Time-Bounded Routing on Solar-Based Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks(2015-10-02) ;Chen, Yuh-Shyan ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Wang, Chih-Hao ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceA solar-based vehicular ad-hoc networking technique is a key issue to exploit the on-board sensing, computing, energy harvesting, and wireless communication capabilities in the intelligent transportation system. Most existing research results mostly paid attention to the energy savings, but lacking in consideration of the energy harvesting. An electric solar vehicle considered in this paper is equipped with a solar panel so that the vehicle battery can be periodically charged while keeping the high ECR, where ECR (energy consumption ratio) is the average packet arrival ratio divided by the energy consumption. This paper proposes a new green time-bounded routing protocol, whose goal is to deliver messages to the destination within user-defined delay and to minimize the usage of radio and power consumption, because the radio spectrum and the power are the limited resources. Simulation results justify the efficiency of the proposed protocol.Item type:Item, A study on Shared and non-Shared Billing for Mobile Service(2015) ;Wu, Jo-Ching ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Wang, Yung-ChingLin, Bo-TingIn this paper, we study on the price comparison between shared plan and non-shared plan for mobile service. A non-shared data plan is a traditional data plan for a single user with a limited monthly data allowance. A shared data plan allows a user to add different devices to one inclusive plan and receive one bill at the end of every month, which the monthly data allowance is shared by a group of users across multiple devices. Each data plan is charged by a fixed price for a monthly data allowance and there will be an extra charge if a user consumes more than the monthly data allowance. Therefore, the charged price is affected by the user\'s behaviors. We study the users\' behaviors by observing the measured data from Chunghwa Telecom and derive stochastic models for shared plan and non-shared plan to evaluate monthly prices based on different users\' behaviors. We recommend the most appropriate plan for a group of users based on users\' behaviors. On the other hand, mobile operators can attract more customers and earn more profit. We show that the shared plan is a \'win-win\' plan for users and operators.Item type:Item, AgriTalk: IoT for Precision Soil Farming of Turmeric Cultivation(2019-06-01) ;Chen, Wen-Liang ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Chen, RobertLiao, Jyun-KaiThis paper proposes AgriTalk, an inexpensive Internet of Things (IoT) platform for precision farming of soil cultivation. We conduct experiments on turmeric cultivation, which indicates that the turmeric quality is significantly enhanced through AgriTalk. Specifically, the curcumin concentration is up to 4500-5500 mg/100 g, which is five times more than existing products. We demonstrate how to intuitively configure the connections between the sensors and the actuators with the desired farming intelligence, and to effectively maintain AgriTalk for precision farming. We conduct measurement, analytic analysis, and simulation experiments to investigate the IoT message delays of AgriTalk. This paper indicates that the delays for automatic control and automatic-manual control switching with long distances (more than 30 km) are very short (less than 0.2 s) and AgriTalk can easily respond to quick and dynamic change of the field environment conditions in soil cultivation.Item type:Item, ArduTalk: A Graphical Programming tool for Arduino using IoTtalk(2017-01-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceMany Internet of Things (IoT) technologies interconnect physical sensors, actuators, and heterogeneous computing devices within the existing Internet infrastructure, which make our life more convenient. ArduTalk is a graphical programming environment based on IoTtalk, which aims to develop internetworking Arduino applications for multiple Arduino boards. Therefore, sensors and actuators can be plugged in different Arduino boards, and the user can utilize ArduTalk to arbitrarily link and re-link sensors to actuators to create different applications for different purposes, which is a very convenient way to develop IoT applications especially for beginners. Performance measurement shows that the actuator still has a quick response time when the actuator is triggered by a sensor through ArduTalk.Item type:Item, ArduTalk: An Arduino Network Application Development Platform Based on IoTtalk(2019-03-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Yang, Ming-Ta ;Lin, Jun-Han資訊工程學系Several tools provide popular solutions for creating innovative Internet of Things (IoT) applications on single Arduino board. However, interactions among multiple Arduino boards need significant effort to be established. This paper proposes ArduinoIo-Ttalk (ArduTalk), a graphical user interface (GUI)-based platform aims to develop IoT network applications for interaction among multiple Arduino boards. ArduTalk utilizes IoTtalk, an IoT device management platform for quickly establishing connections and meaningful interactions between IoT devices without concerning the lower layer communication protocols. In this paper, the IoTtalk GUI has been significantly enhanced for ArduTalk. By integrating Arduino with the enhanced IoTtalk, ArduTalk allows a user to arbitrarily link and relink sensors to actuators without or with little programming effort, and quickly generate Arduino applications for different purposes. We conduct measurements to investigate the time complexity for data delivery among multiple Arduino boards, and propose a damping mechanism to address the fairness issue caused by the discrepancies between local and remote delays among the Arduino boards.Item type:Item, Astaxanthin down-regulates Rad51 expression via inactivation of AKT kinase to enhance mitomycin C-induced cytotoxicity in human non-small cell lung cancer cells(2016-04-01) ;Ko, Jen-Chung ;Chen, Jyh-Cheng ;Wang, Tai-Jing ;Zheng, Hao-YuChen, Wen-ChingAstaxanthin has been demonstrated to exhibit a wide range of beneficial effects, including anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. However, the molecular mechanism of astaxanthin-induced cytotoxicity in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells has not been identified. Rad51 plays a central role in homologous recombination, and studies show that chemo-resistant carcinomas exhibit high levels of Rad51 expression. In this study, astaxanthin treatment inhibited cell viability and proliferation of two NSCLC cells, A549 and H1703. Astaxanthin treatment (2.5-20 mu M) decreased Rad51 expression and phospho-AKT(Ser473) protein level in a time and dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, expression of constitutively active AKT (AKT-CA) vector rescued the decreased Rad51 mRNA and protein levels in astaxanthin-treated NSCLC cells. Combined treatment with phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitors (LY294002 or wortmannin) further decreased the Rad51 expression in astaxanthin-exposed A549 and H1703 cells. Knockdown of Rad51 expression by transfection with si-Rad51 RNA or cotreatment with LY294002 further enhanced the cytotoxicity and cell growth inhibition of astaxanthin. Additionally, mitomycin C (MMC) as an anti-tumor antibiotic is widely used in clinical NSCLC chemotherapy. Combination of MMC and astaxanthin synergistically resulted in cytotoxicity and cell growth inhibition in NSCLC cells, accompanied with reduced phospho-AKT(Ser473) level and Rad51 expression. Overexpression of AKT-CA or Flag-tagged Rad51 reversed the astaxanthin and MMC-induced synergistic cytotoxicity. In contrast, pretreatment with LY294002 further decreased the cell viability in astaxanthin and MMC co-treated cells. In conclusion, astaxanthin enhances MMC-induced cytotoxicity by decreasing Rad51 expression and AKT activation. These findings may provide rationale to combine astaxanthin with MMC for the treatment of NSCLC. (C) 2016 Elsevier Inc. The magic-T is formed by Marchand type power divider and balun. Exact synthesis method based on S-domain highpass prototype using Richard\'s theorem tits the magic-T with the user-defined specifications. By discussing the characteristic impedance of the common element shared by the balun and divider, the magic-T can be designed to match different output impedance. A high-order magic-T with wide bandwidth about 100% and reflection coefficient of -15dB is designed as an example where a combination of microstrip lines, slotlines, double-sided parallel-strip line (DSPSL) and coplanar striplines is applied. The simulation and measurement results are matched well.Item type:Item, CampusTalk: IoT Devices and Their Interesting Features on Campus Applications(2018-01-01) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Chen, Li-Kuan ;Shieh, Min-Zheng ;Lin, Yun-WeiYen, Tai-HsiangInternet of Things (IoT) allows interactive learning of students by inspiring their innovation everywhere on the campus. This paper proposes CampusTalk that provides convenient access to cyber and physical devices through the web technology. In this way, the campus applications can be accessed anywhere in the world through any computing device with a display and a browser without installing any mobile app. CampusTalk unifies the concepts of automatic creation of "mirror device features'' (simulated counterpart) and talkPal device features, which are nicely demonstrated through several applications on campus. The core application of CampusTalk is SmartPhoneTalk that allows other applications to be accessed by students through their smartphones without installing any mobile apps. We describe three CampusTalk applications, including MusicTalk, PingPongTalk, and SkeletonTalk, to demonstrate cyber and physical interaction with SmartPhoneTalk. After the IoT devices of these applications have been developed and are accommodated in CampusTalk, the students can use the CampusTalk GUI to connect them with various combinations for innovative applications without extra programming effort.Item type:Item, Curcumin enhances the mitomycin C-induced cytotoxicity via downregulation of MKK1/2-ERK1/2-mediated Rad51 expression in non-small cell lung cancer cells(2011-09-15) ;Ko, Jen-Chung ;Tsai, Min-Shao ;Weng, Shao-Hsing ;Kuo, Ya-HsunChiu, Yu-FanCurcumin (diferuloylmethane), a major active component of turmeric (Curcuma longa), has been reported to suppress the proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells. Rad51 is a key protein in the homologous recombination (HR) pathway of DNA double-strand break repair, and HR represents a novel target for cancer therapy. A high expression of Rad51 has been reported in chemo- or radio-resistant carcinomas. Therefore, in the current study, we will examine whether curcumin could enhance the effects of mitomycin C (MMC), a DNA interstrand cross-linking agent, to induce cytotoxicity by decreasing Rad51 expression. Exposure of two human non-small lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines (A549 and H1975) to curcumin could suppress MMC-induced MKK1/2-ERK1/2 signal activation and Rad51 protein expression. Enhancement of ERK1/2 activation by constitutively active MKK1/2 (MKK1/2-CA) increased Rad51 protein levels in curcumin and MMC co-treated human lung cells. Moreover, the synergistic cytotoxic effect induced by curcumin combined with MMC was decreased by MKK1-CA-mediated enhancement of ERK1/2 activation by a significant degree. In contrast, MKK1/2 inhibitor, U0126 was shown to augment the cytotoxicity of curcumin and MMC through downregulation of ERK1/2 activation and Rad51 expression. Depletion of endogenous Rad51 expression by siRad51 RNA transfection significantly enhanced MMC and/or curcumin induced cell death and cell growth inhibition. In contrast, an overexpression of Rad51 protected lung cancer cells from synergistic cytotoxic effects induced by curcumin and MMC. We concluded that Rad51 inhibition may be an additional action mechanism for enhancing the chemosensitization of MMC by curcumin in NSCLC. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. These coupling schemes show similar characteristics to that of the traditional canonical form coupling schemes. The fourth-order filter can be designed to have two pairs of transmission zeros locating on either real or imaginary frequency axes. An example filter designed with one pair of real frequency transmission zeros for selectivity and another pair of imaginary frequency transmission zeros for equalizing the group delay response is introduced. Measured and simulated performances are presented. In addition, the higher order coupling schemes are also discussed.Item type:Item, Design of High-Order Wideband Planar Balun Filter in S-Plane Bandpass Prototype(2012-07-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Lu, Jhe-Ching ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringA new high-order wideband planar balun filter is proposed in this paper. The balun filter is exact synthesized based on S-domain bandpass prototype using Richards' Theorem to fit the user-defined specifications. By analyzing the redundant element in the equivalent circuit, the output impedance of the balun filter can be arbitrarily assigned. To use an S-plane bandpass prototype other than a high-pass prototype can shrink the circuit area and improve the stopband performance. The lumped capacitor approximation suppresses the spurious response in the stopband and further reduces the circuit size. A high-order balun filter with a bandwidth of 100% and a reflection coefficient of -15 dB is implemented by combining of microstrip lines, slotlines, and coplanar striplines. The simulation and measurement results match well.Item type:Item, Developing Smart Home Applications(1970-01-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Tseng, Sheng-Kai ;Liao, Jyun-Kai ;Hsu, Ta-Hsien建築研究所This paper utilizes an IoT platform called IoTtalk to shape "intelligence" into a house to make it a smart home. The developed project is called HomeTalk that serves as a platform to accommodate various smart applications in a house. We describe the following HomeTalk applications. The PlantTalk application takes care of house plants. The FishTalk application provides fish comfortable life in the fish tank at home. The BreathTalk application detects the number of people in a room, which also purifies the air. The TheaterTalk application uses home and special appliances to create the effects for a 4D experience theater at home. The FrameTalk application allows a painting frame to interact with people in a house. The GardenTalk application provides smart gardening. By examining these projects, this paper explicitly identifies and generalizes the features of HomeTalk that provides flexibility to reuse these IoT devices by sharing them among various smart home applications simultaneously. Specifically, we show how these applications share the sensors and actuators in the house. In the future, we will integrate them through an award winning project called Orchid House.Item type:Item, EasyConnect: A Management System for IoT Devices and Its Applications for Interactive Design and Art(2015-12) ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Chih, Chang-Yen ;Li, Tzu-YiTai, Chia-ChunMany Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have been used in applications for money flow, logistics flow, people flow, interactive art design, and so on. To manage these increasing disparate devices and connectivity options, ETSI has specified end-to-end machine-to-machine (M2M) system architecture for IoT applications. Based on this architecture, we develop an IoT EasyConnect system to manage IoT devices. In our approach, an IoT device is characterized by its "features" (e.g., temperature, vibration, and display) that are manipulated by the network applications. If a network application handles the individual device features independently, then we can write a software module for each device feature, and the network application can be simply constructed by including these brick-like device feature modules. Based on the concept of device feature, brick-like software modules can provide simple and efficient mechanism to develop IoT device applications and interactions.Item type:Item, Exact Synthesis of Full- and Half-Symmetric Rat-Race Ring Hybrids With or Without Impedance Transforming Characteristics(2015-12-01) ;Chou, Po-Jung ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringNovel full- and half-symmetric rat-race ring hybrid structures are proposed, in which the impedance transforming property can be implemented. Impedance transformation implies that the impedances of the input and output ports can be different. The conventional even- and odd-mode partition and analysis method cannot be applied to the proposed half-symmetric circuits; therefore, an analysis method is developed. The rat-race ring is exactly synthesized on the basis of a newly deduced high-pass prototype that is based on Richards theorem, which allows the user-defined specifications to be satisfied. Three hybrids are synthesized as examples-a sixth-order full- symmetric hybrid with a bandwidth of 116% and a return loss of 20 dB, a fifth-order half-symmetric hybrid with a 100% bandwidth and 25-dB return loss, and a fifth-order impedance-transforming half-symmetric hybrid with an output port impedance of 70 Omega, a 100% bandwidth, and 20-dB return loss. The first and second hybrids are implemented to verify the method. A comparison of the measured and simulation results indicates good agreement.Item type:Item, Five-Pole Parallel-Coupled Microstrip Cascade Quadruplet Filters for High Selectivity and Flat Group Delay(2009) ;Lu, Jhe-Ching ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Liao, Ching-Ku ;Chang, Chi-Yang電信工程研究所The design of five-pole cascade quadruplet microstrip filters is presented. Based on a conventional parallel-coupled structure, good initial physical dimensions can be obtained by the well-known analytical method. Applying source and load to couple to the third resonator two cascaded quadruplets are formed. Two pairs of transmission zeros can be independently located on either real or imaginary frequency axes. Two filters are introduced in this paper that one have two pairs of real frequency transmission zeros for selectivity, and the other have one pair of real frequency transmission zeros for selectivity and another pair of imaginary frequency transmission zeros for group delay equalization. The flat group delay response is particularly sensitive to the unwanted cross coupling. The proposed structure solves this problem and shows a very flat group delay in the passband. The simulated and measured results of the two designed microstrip filters are well-matched.Item type:Item, Flower Sermon: An Interactive Visual Design Using IoTtalk(2019-06-01) ;Hsiao, Chung-Yun ;Huang, Chih-Chieh ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Lin, Yun-Wei資訊工程學系IoTtalk is a platform for IoT device interaction, which has been used to develop many IoT applications such as home automation. This paper uses Flower Sermon artwork as an example to show how interactive visual design can be conveniently implemented in IoTtalk. The Flower Sermon artwork conducts cyber physical interaction, which animates a dandelion in a mirror when a person smiles at that mirror. The dandelion grows larger as the person smiles bigger. The flower also vibrates following the heartbeat rate of the person. In our approach, the camera detecting the face expression and the heartbeat rate is considered as an input IoT device, and the mirror display for dandelion animation is considered as an output IoT device. In IoTtalk, the features of the dandelion animation are considered as the actuators that can be independently controlled. IoTtalk nicely connects these IoT devices, where various features can be created for interactive visual design with little or without any programming effort. We also measure the time complexity for data delivery among the input and the output IoT devices. Our study indicates that the time delays are less than 0.07s on the average even if the IoTtalk server is located in a cloud.Item type:Item, High Selectivity and Flat Group Delay ParallelCoupled Microstrip Bandpass Filter with Lumped Element K-Inverters(2010-01-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Lu, Jhe-Ching ;Chang, Chi-Yang ;Liao, Ching-Ku電信工程研究所In this paper, high selectivity and flat group delay parallel-coupled microstrip bandpass filter with lump element Kinverter are proposed. Finally, 5th-order and 6th-order filters with high selectivity and flat group delay are given as examples.Item type:Item, Implementing AI as Cyber IoT Devices: The House Valuation Example(2020-04-01) ;Lin, Yun-Wei ;Lin, Yi-Bing ;Liu, Chun-You ;Lin, Jiun-YiShih, Yu-LinInternet of Things (IoT) has been widely utilized with artificial intelligence (AI). However, it requires substantial effort to integrate AI and big data with IoT. To mitigate this problem, AItalk was proposed. By treating AI as a cyber IoT device, we do not need to write code of the AI mechanism in the network applications, as traditional AI-based IoT applications did. This article describes how the AI tools such as scikit-learn and TensorLayer are accommodated as cyber IoT devices in AItalk, and extends AItalk for non-IoT applications. We use house valuation as an example to show how AItalk can flexibly include the factors that have significant impact on the house price. We show that by adding extra features other than housing profile features, the accuracy for the prediction (valuation) can be improved by 38 & x0025;. We also investigated the communication overhead of the distributed AItalk structure, which is 3.7 & x0025; for the computation of one house price valuation.Item type:Item, Inhibition of p38 MAPK-dependent MutS homologue-2 (MSH2) expression by metformin enhances gefitinib-induced cytotoxicity in human squamous lung cancer cells(2013-12-01) ;Ko, Jen-Chung ;Chiu, Hsien-Chun ;Wo, Ting-Yu ;Huang, Yi-JhenTseng, Sheng-ChiehObjectives: Gefitinib, a quinazoline-derived tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has anti-tumor activity in vivo and in vitro. Human MutS homologue-2 (MSH2) plays a central role in promoting genetic stability by correcting DNA replication errors. The present study investigated the effects of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal on gefitinib-induced MSH2 expression in two human non-small cell lung squamous cancer cell lines. Materials and methods: After the gefitinib treatment, the expressions of MSH2 mRNA were determined by real-time PCR and RT-PCR analysis. Protein levels of MSH2, phospho-MKK3/6, phospho-p38 MAPK were determined by Western blot analysis. We used specific MSH2, and p38 MAPK small interfering RNA to examine the role of p38 MAPK-MSH2 signal in regulating the chemosensitivity of gefitinib. Cell viability was assessed by MTS assay, trypan blue exclusion, and colony-forming ability assay. Results: Exposure of gefitinib increased MSH2 protein and mRNA levels, which was accompanied by MKK3/6-p38 MAPK activation in H520 and H1703 cells. Moreover, blocking p38 MAPK activation by SB202190 significantly decreased gefitinib-induced MSH2 expression by increasing mRNA and protein instability. In contrast, enhancing p38 activation using constitutively active MKK6 (MKK6E) increased MSH2 protein and mRNA levels. Specific inhibition of MSH2 expression by siRNA enhanced gefitinib-induced cytotoxicity. Metformin, an anti-diabetic drug, might reduce cancer risk. In human lung squamous cancer cells, metformin decreased gefitinib-induced MSH2 expression and augmented the cytotoxic effect and growth inhibition by gefitinib. Transient expression of MKK6E or HA-p38 MAPK vector could abrogate metformin and gefitinib-induced synergistic cytotoxic effect in H520 and H1703 cells. Conclusion: Together, down-regulation of MSH2 expression can be a possible strategy to enhance the sensitivity of gefitinib to human lung squamous cancer cells. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
