Item type:Item, Analysis and Design of a Supply Chain Logistics Hub for After Market Automotive Parts Distribution(2008) ;Liu, C. S. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Hung, Anlin Y. L.Huang, Ashley Y. L.Developing global logistics strategies has become essential for ensuring enterprise profitability. As a case in point, the Taiwan automobile manufacturing industry is improving logistics operations and enhancing product traceability using integrated distribution hubs. After-Market Services (AMS) are critical for automobile part suppliers since they are required to satisfy their clients while providing on-time deliveries that are traceable on route. Offering these parts and services requires re-engineering the enterprise and integrating the processes with information systems located across the channel and around the world. This research depicts the current AMS logistics and management processes for an automobile lamp and components manufacturer. The case studies the current logistic process (e.g., shipment tracking, inventory management and order processing) and depicts the underlying business processes using Petri net diagrams. After using simulation to study bottlenecks, repetitive processes, and areas of operation that waste time and money, a to-be model is developed. The goal of the to-be model is to apply information technology to exchange and share information among supply chain participants. In order to benchmark the design of the to-be logistics model, the simulation is run and compared to the current operations. Although the research does not attempt to optimize the model, simulation runs on the to-be model are repeated until an improved solution is achieved that satisfies the manufacturer\'s goals. The results show that an information technology based logistic hub increases logistics efficiency and better enables the manufacturer to increase profits.Item type:Item, Business and logistics hub integration to facilitate global supply chain linkage(2007-07-01) ;Trappey, C. V. ;Trappey, A. J. C. ;Lin, G. Y. P. ;Liu, C. S.Lee, W. T.With the development and integration of the global supply chain, manufacturing industries are rapidly adjusting their modes of operation within and between enterprises. Existing manufacturing processes are being improved to meet the requirements of lean and agile manufacturing, and suppliers are given additional responsibilities to provide parts and services dynamically. An enterprise must strategically re-engineer its operations model to face the rapid changes of the global market place. This paper identifies prevailing challenges and highlights a future vision of the global logistics management framework for the automotive industry. An integrated business and logistics hub (IBLH) model integrating information flows (via the business hub) and material flows (via the logistics hub) is presented. This research uses the case of a Taiwan automobile parts and assembly manufacturer to analyse the processes of the IBLH. The goals of the case are to shorten supply chain processes, reduce inventory costs, and ensure information transparency during material flow and product distribution. Finally, this research provides suggestions to depict the case company's current limitations and deficiencies, and presents a future plan for e-logistics services.Item type:Item, Deriving industrial logistics hub reference models for manufacturing based economies(2011-02-01) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Lin, Gilbert Y. P. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Liu, C. S.Lee, W. T.Global enterprises require extended logistics operations that integrate channel intermediaries into the network The method for deriving Integrated models for logistics hubs that improve the efficiency of manufacturers global operations is the focus of this paper Under government sponsorship six industrial logistics hubs were implemented by leading manufacturing sectors across Taiwan over a five year period from 2004 until 2008 Each industry sector had unique industry characteristics business strategies and logistics models Therefore this paper describes how generalized and quick to implement integrated logistics hubs are developed by studying the successful reference models and systems used by six independent industrial sectors The research results provide a field tested method for deriving integrated logistics hub models in different manufactunng economies with notes that provide sufficient methodological detail for repeating the construction of logistics hubs in other manufacturing economies (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd All rights reservedItem type:Item, Develop Patient Monitoring and Support System Using Mobile Communication and Intelligent Reasoning(2009) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Liu, C. S. ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceIn hospitals and other medical facilities, nursing staff are responsible for the care of critically ill patients. Many hospitals use information technology to support nursing care. However, most medical information systems use manually recorded vital sign data for patient care and control. Medical staff cannot automatically detect abnormalities and provide consistent and immediate health care services. Thus, in this research, a Mobile Intelligent Medical System (MIMS) is developed that supports mobile nursing applications and clinical decision support. The functions include RFID-based mobile applications for monitoring physiological instruments. A Java-based expert system integrated with an RFID-enabled patient data collection module and a rule base is used to issue warnings and send diagnostic messages. The MIMS network model demonstrates how to bring more efficient services to patients while increasing safety and quality in a dispersed medical environment.Item type:Item, The Analysis and Development of Taiwan's Industrial Logistics Hubs(2009) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Lin, Gilbert Y. P. ;Liu, C. S.Lee, W. T.With the trend of globalization, enterprises require to extend their logistics scope from domestic to international, integrate logistics networks, and improve the agility and efficiency of global operations. This paper reviews the design and implementation of the industrial logistics hubs which belong to six manufacturing sectors in Taiwan over the past five years. Different industries have their own industry character, business strategy, and logistics models. Therefore, this paper organizes the executive problems and their corresponding solutions during project execution phases. Finally, this paper depicts the companies' executive experience and presents the future outlook for other companies and industry sectors' reference.Item type:Item, The Design and Evaluation of a Supply Chain Logistic Hub for Automobile and Parts Distribution(2008) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Liu, C. S. ;Lee, W. T.Hung, Y. L.Enterprises in Taiwan are facing global competition which requires enterprises to implement sound business models and maintain effective operational processes. The most pressing need is to develop global logistic processes and models that satisfy rapidly changing business and operational objectives. This research studies how the automotive industry in Taiwan has adopted its logistic hubs to improve international business operations and objectives. In the first phase of the study, Taiwan automotive firms were surveyed and their current (as-is) logistic models were derived. In the second phase, based on the industry characteristics and the company's global strategy, the improved (to-be) logistic processes were derived. Further, a case of Taiwan automobile manufacturers is used to apply and demonstrate the to-be logistic models and evaluate the performance of the proposed models. The resulting framework for a global logistic hub is designed to improve the operations of automotive companies with respect to time and cost, as well as to ensure information sharing among automotive supply chain partners.Item type:Item, The joint usage of conventional medicine and alternative medicine for migraine in Taiwan: a ten-year retrospective study(2009-10-01) ;Chang, S.
