Item type:Item, A data envelopment analysis model for selecting material handling system designs(2007) ;Liu, Fuh-Hwa Franklin ;Kuo, Wan-Ting ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementThe material handling system under design is an unmanned job shop with an automated guided vehicle that transport loads within the processing machines. The engineering task is to select the design alternatives that are the combinations of the four design factors: the ratio of production time to transportation time, mean job arrival rate to the system, input/output buffer capacities at each processing machine, and the vehicle control strategies. Each of the design alternatives is simulated to collect the upper and lower bounds of the five performance indices. We develop a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to assess the 180 designs with imprecise data of the five indices. The three-ways factorial experiment analysis for the assessment results indicates the buffer capacity and the interaction of job arrival rate and buffer capacity affect the performance significantly.Item type:Item, A systematic procedure to obtain a preferable and robust ranking of units(2009-04-01) ;Liu, Fuh-Hwa Franklin ;Peng, Hao Hsuan ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementThis paper introduces one systematic procedure for the manager of an organization to assess units under its governance using multiple performance indices. The goal of this systematic procedure is to assist the manager in obtaining a preferable and robust ranking result for units. In this procedure, for all units, one common set of weights attached to the performance indices is determined in order to maximize the group's comprehensive score. Then. using the common set of weights, each unit's comprehensive score is evaluated and compared for ranking. In order to obtain the preferable ranking, the manager's subjective preference is considered and formulated by the virtual weights restrictions while determining the common weights in the procedure. The procedure is applied in order to obtain a robust ranking by modifying the boundary of the feasible region of virtual weights restrictions in each assessment. The final statistical ranking of all assessments provides the manager with one robust ranking, which is invariant in different feasible regions of virtual weights restrictions in the numerical example. Malmquist productivity has three components: the measurement of technical change, the measurement of the frontier forward shift, and the measurement of the frontier backward shift of a company over two consecutive periods. This approach not only reveals patterns of productivity change and presents a new interpretation along with the managerial implication of each Malmquist component, but also identifies the strategy shifts of individual companies based upon isoquant changes. Therefore, one can judge with greater accuracy whether or not such strategy shifts are favorable and promising. We use slacks-based measurement (SBM) and Super-SBM models to obtain more accurate measurements. Comparison is made between the results from SBM/Super-SBM and CCR models. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. However, DEA does not provide more information about the efficient DMUs. This research proposes a methodology to determine one common set of weights for the performance indices of only DEA efficient DMUs. Then, these DMUs are ranked according to the efficiency score weighted by the common set of weights. For the decision maker, this ranking is based on the optimization of the group's efficiency. The GDM is able to reallocate the inputs/outputs among the DMUs to estimate the maximum absolute decision making efficiency of the sector. Serial models are presented to manage the interaction between two decision-making levels, GDM and DMUs, to provide the reallocated targets of inputs/outputs for DMUs in the next operating period. The 25 branches of a commercial bank in Taiwan are used as an illustration. (c) 2012 Elsevier Inc. The issue of a group of decision-makers ranking candidates with multiple criteria is interesting. A group ranks the effects of those criteria by using a specific method. For each criterion, a group votes for candidates with multiple places. This study developed a procedure to determine the common set of weights of the places in those criteria. Candidates were subsequently ranked according to their sum of weighted votes that they earned in all the places of those criteria.Item type:Item, The disaster response performance of hospitals in Taiwan: evaluation and classification(2011-04-01) ;Liu, Fuh-Hwa Franklin ;Teng, Ying-Hock ;Lai, Ching-Hsiang ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementHospitals need disaster response plannings and temporary shelters to rescue victims in disasters. In Taiwan, there are 82 emergency medical service (EMS) hospitals are requested to possess guildlines of preparedness and responses to mitigation the damage and recovery the pre-event status in a disaster. A measurement chart including three major factors-facility, manpower, and disaster plan and drill mode-was created to evaluate the performance of disaster management of these EMS hospitals. Based on the expert opinions, some hospitals were selected as a reference set prior to the accreditation. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is applied to classify each of the remaining hospitals into qualified or unqualified classes. Then, each unqualified hospital was recommended to improve its practice of disaster preparedness and responses into the qualified level. We also find that, on average, private hospitals perform better than public hospitals and medical centers perform better than the regional hospitals. But, the differences are not statistically significant.
