Item type:Item, CORPORATE GOVERNANCE REFORM IN TAIWAN Could the Independent Director System Be an Effective Remedy?(2008-09-01) ;Liu, John S. ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementAt the forefront of corporate governance reform in Taiwan is establishment of the independent director system. We report upon the reform as related to the independent director system. Listed companies have acted in response to the reform in a way that may not serve its original purpose.Item type:Item, Herding of corporate directors in Taiwan(2008-07-01) ;Liu, John S. ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementCorporate directors can be said to herd when they sit together on not only one, but several company boards. Such herding is commonly called "multiple interlock" in the literature. This study analyzes the factors involved in director herding using a binary logistics regression model. Statistical analysis indicates that directors who control a large amount of effective assets in the corporate world, own a high percentage of equity in a company, or hold an inside management position are more likely to be involved in multiple firm interlocks. In other words, controlling shareholders and their associates are the main individuals involved in such interlocks. Finally, company financial performance is negatively related to multiple interlocks.Item type:Item, Recent trend in graphene for optoelectronics(2013-02-01) ;Chen, Yu-Bin ;Liu, John S. ;Lin, Pang ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringThis study analyzes the scientific knowledge diffusion paths of graphene for optoelectronics (GFO), where graphene offers wide applications due to its thinness, high conductivity, excellent transparency, chemical stability, robustness, and flexibility. Our investigation is based on the main path analysis which establishes the citation links among the literature data in order to trace the significant sequence of knowledge development in this emerging field. We identify the main development paths of GFO up to the year 2012, along which a series of influential papers in this field are identified. The main path graph shows that knowledge diffusion occurs in key subareas, including reduced graphene oxide, chemical vapor deposition, and exfoliation techniques, which are developed for the preparation and applications of GFO. The applications cover solar cells, laser devices, sensing devices, and LCD. In addition, the main theme of GFO research evolves in sequence from small-graphene-sample preparation, to large-scale film growth, and onto prototype device fabrication. This evolution reflects a strong industrial demand for a new transparent-conductive film technology.
