Item type:Item, A Preprocessed Induced Partition Matrix Based Collaborative Fuzzy Clustering For Data Analysis(2014-01-01) ;Prasad, M. ;Li, D. L. ;Liu, Y. T. ;Siana, L.Lin, C. T.Preprocessing is generally used for data analysis in the real world datasets that are noisy, incomplete and inconsistent. In this paper, preprocessing is used to refine the inconsistency of the prototype and partition matrices before getting involved in the collaboration process. To date, almost all organizations are trying to establish some collaboration with others in order to enhance the performance of their services. Due to privacy and security issues they cannot share their information and data with each other. Collaborative clustering helps this kind of collaborative process while maintaining the privacy and security of data and can still yield a satisfactory result. Preprocessing helps the collaborative process by using an induced partition matrix generated based on cluster prototypes. The induced partition matrix is calculated from local data by using the cluster prototypes obtained from other data sites. Each member of the collaborating team collects the data and generates information locally by using the fuzzy c-means (FCM) and shares the cluster prototypes to other members. The other members preprocess the centroids before collaboration and use this information to share globally through collaborative fuzzy clustering (CFC) with other data. This process helps system to learn and gather information from other data sets. It is found that preprocessing helps system to provide reliable and satisfactory result, which can be easily visualized through our simulation results in this paper.Item type:Item, Non-lethal Candida albicans cph1/cph1 efg1/efg1 transcription factor mutant establishing restricted zone of infection in a mouse model of systemic infection(2006-07-01) ;Chen, C. G. ;Yang, Y. L. ;Cheng, H. H. ;Su, C. L.Huang, S. F.The cph1/cph1 efg1/efg1andida albicans mutant cells were non-lethal in a mouse model of systemic infection. We investigated in vivo proliferation and invasion of C albicans cells in infected mice to elucidate the interaction between the host and the pathogen. Homogenates of kidneys from the mice infected with the wild-type and the mutant C albicans cells yielded a mean of 2.1 x 10(7)CFU/g and 2.2 x 10(6) CFU/g, respectively. The kidneys from the mice infected with the wild-type cells showed extensive renal cortical necrosis associated with neutrophilic infiltration. There were also wild-type hyphal cells present in abundance. Hence, tubular necrosis leading to renal failure in the mice may be the cause of death. Although the cph1/cph1 efg1/efg1 mutant cells were not lethal, they were capable of establishing restricted zones of infection and colonization near the renal pelvis instead of simply being cleared by the immune system in mice.Item type:Item, Polaronic effect in the x-ray absorption spectra of La1-xCaxMnO3 manganites(2019-05-15) ;Huang, S. W. ;Liu, Y. T. ;Lee, J. M. ;Chen, J. M.Lee, J. F.X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is performed to study changes in the electronic structures of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) and charged ordered (CO) La1-xCaxMnO3 manganites with respect to temperature. The pre-edge features in O and Mn K-edge XAS spectra, which are highly sensitive to the local distortion of MnO6 octahedral, exhibit contrasting temperature dependence between CMR and CO samples. 'the seemingly counter-intuitive XAS temperature dependence can be reconciled in the context of polarons. These results help identify the most relevant orbital states associated with polarons and highlight the crucial role played by polarons in understanding the electronic structures of manganites.Item type:Item, The unconventional doping in YBa2Cu3O7-x/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 heterostructures by termination control(2017-01-16) ;Tra, V. T. ;Huang, R. ;Gao, X. ;Chen, Y. -J.Liu, Y. T.In strongly correlated oxides, heterostructures provide a powerful route to manipulate the charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom to create distinctive functionalities. In this work, we have achieved atomically precise interface control in YBa2Cu3O7-x/La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (YBCO/LCMO) heterostructures and find a hidden effective doping. This mechanism is responsible for higher Tc in the sample with the MnO2-terminated interface than in that with the La0.7Ca0.3O-terminated interface. The MnO2-terminated sample also shows a larger magnetic moment of Mn together with a lower valence state. For more than a decade, the control of T-c in these heterostructures prior to this work has been solely via the variation of YBCO or LCMO thickness. This work hints at an alternative way of exploiting and exploring the interactions between superconductivity and magnetism in this system. S. ;Hammer, E. ;Glaum, R.Broto, J. -M.The chromium(II) orthophosphate alpha-Cr(3)(PO(4))(2) is a weak ferrimagnet with the Curie temperature T(C) = 29 K confirmed by a lambda-type peak in specific heat. Dominant antiferromagnetic interactions in this system are characterized by the Weiss temperature Theta = 96 K, indicating an intermediate frustration ratio vertical bar Theta vertical bar/T(C) similar to 3. In its magnetically ordered states alpha-Cr(3)(PO(4))(2) exhibits a remarkable sequence of temperature-induced magnetization reversals sensitive to the protocol of measurements, i.e., either field-cooled or zero-field-cooled regimes. The reduction of the effective magnetic moment 4.5 mu(B)/Cr(2+), as compared to the spin-only moment 4.9 mu(B)/Cr(2+), cannot be ascribed to the occurrence of the low-spin state in any crystallographic site of the Jahn-Teller active 3d(4) Cr(2+) ions. X-ray absorption spectra at the K edge indicate divalent chromium and unravel the high-spin state of these ions at the L(2,3) edges. Weak ferrimagnetism and multiple magnetization reversal phenomena seen in this compound could be ascribed to incomplete cancellation and distortion of partial spontaneous magnetization functions of Cr(2+) in its six crystallographically inequivalent positions.Item type:Item, Weak ferrimagnetism and multiple magnetization reversal in alpha-Cr-3(PO4)(2)(2012-01-18) ;Vasiliev, A.
