Item type:Item, A single-substrate multicolor cholesteric liquid-crystal display prepared through ink-jet printing(2009-10-01) ;Lu, Jhih-Ping ;Chen, Fang-Chung ;Chen, Fu-Kang ;Hsu, Chen-ChunLiao, Yuan-ChangInk-jet printing was used to prepare a single-substrate multicolor cholesteric liquid-crystal (Ch-LC) display incorporating three Ch-LCs exhibiting different reflective wavelengths. A room-temperature low-vacuum chemical-vapor-deposition process was developed for coating a thin polymer film onto the Ch-LC so that the top electrode could be coated onto the Ch-LC layer. Herein, the successful operation of such a 10.4-in. QVGA Ch-LC display at 40 V will be described.Item type:Item, IER Film and Inkjet Printing Method for Full-Color Transflective Cholesteric LCD(2005-12-01) ;Chen, Szu-Fen ;Huang, Chao-Heng ;Lu, Jhih-Ping ;Chan, Meng-XiShieh, Han-Ping D.A transflective cholesteric liquid crystal display (ChLCD) is demonstrated by using the image-enhanced reflector (IER) film on the top of the transmissive region to provide the similar paths for both transmissive and reflective light, thus, to display same image color in any ambience, improving the image quality. For full color display, the inkjet printing was applied and the patterned Ch-LC droplet was successfully deposited on the substrate. Thus, full-color Ch-LCD can be fabricated by IJP.Item type:Item, Ring edge in film morphology: Benefit or obstacle for ink jet fabrication of organic thin film transistors(2007-09-01) ;Lu, Jhih-Ping ;Chen, Ying-pin ;Lee, Yuh-Zheng ;Cheng, KevinChen, Fang-ChungIn this study, a novel process using ink jet printing with dilute PMMA [poly(methylmethactylate)] solution to form fine separation banks as confined boundaries for the subsequent depositing poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was proposed. The PEDOT comprised the source and drained electrodes with a gap of several micrometers due to the innate characteristic of the ring edge of ink jetted PMMA. Using this technique, the organic device was designed with a bottom gate and evaporated pentacene as the channel material. The device mobility and onloff ratio were about 3.6x 10(-4) and 2x 10(2) cm(2) /Vsec, respectively. The coffee ring effect was used to create a ring-edged bank array with fine structures by UP of poly(methylmethacrylate). After the color filtering inks were deposited in the banks, a color filter panel was made without any transitional photolithography process. The resulting color coordinates of the three primary colors on the chromaticity diagram are (0.70, 0.30), (0.33, 0.60) and (0.14, 0.09), respectively, covering 67.8% of the National Television System Committee standard. This process can be used with flexible substrates to produce low-cost inkjet printed color filters.Item type:Item, Self-positioning microlens arrays prepared using ink-jet printing(2009-07-01) ;Lu, Jhih-Ping ;Huang, Wen-Kuei ;Chen, Fang-Chung ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所We have employed ink-jet printing (IJP) technology to fabricate self-positioning microlens arrays (MLAs). The glass substrates were first prepatterned through microcontact printing (mu CP) hydrophobic self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) to divide the surface into hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions. After IJP of the hydrophilic prepolymer liquids, the lenses were effectively repelled by the patterned SAMs. We obtained high-quality MLAs having diameters of 75 and 100 mu m after polymerization of the prepolymers. The lenses' shapes could be controlled by varying the number of printed droplets. (C) 2009 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. The top electrode can be printed onto thin excellent dielectric polymer layer covering ChLC A 10.4 inch bi-stable display is successfully driven to demonstrate this proposed technique.
