Item type:Item, A Novel Architecture for Autostereoscopic 2D/3D Switchable Display Using Dual Layer Strip Patterned OLED Backlight Module(2014-05-01) ;Wang, Yi-Jun ;Liu, Jun ;Tan, Jian ;Yang, Bo-RuDing, Wei-XianA novel backlight module that integrates dual layer strip patterned organic light emitting diode (DLSP-OLED) for 2D/3D switchable display was demonstrated. The DLSP-OLED functions as a parallax barrier in 3D mode and a planar light source in 2D mode. The results indicated that the backlight module with a thin form factor (similar to 1.1 mm) can achieve uniformity of 91% in 2D mode, and increased optical efficiency by a factor of 2.8 with a crosstalk of less than 6% in 3D mode, compared with the conventional 2D/3D switchable display. A fast switching rate (<1 ms) with simple operation can eliminate the visual fatigue caused by flicker during the switching. In addition, this configuration can function localized 3D display by modulating the DLSP-OLED individually.Item type:Item, A Pressure-Sensitive Impedance-Type Touch Panel With High Sensitivity and Water-Resistance(2018-07-01) ;Liu, Shi-Yu ;Pan, Jin ;Lu, Jian-Gang ;Shieh, Han-Ping D.顯示科技研究所A pressure-sensitive impedance-type touch panel which detects impedance of sensors to identify touch position and applied pressure is demonstrated. It shows high pressure sensitivity in the low pressure regime, high water-resistance, low hysteresis, and high durability, and enables multilevel pressure detection. Because impedance-type sensors act as touch sensors as well as pressure sensors, fabrication process and device architecture can be simplified. Two substrates of the touch panel are bonded together without spacers or bezel tapes in between, improving the uniformity of compressive strain in current pressure-sensitive touch panels. The touch solution offers a new measurement mechanism for sensors involving non-conductive to conductive transition and has great potential for application in wearable interactive devices.Item type:Item, Blue Phase LC/Polymer Fresnel Lens Fabricated by Holographics(2014-02-01) ;Tan, Jian ;Song, Yue ;Zhu, Ji-Liang ;Ni, Shui-BinWang, Yi-JunA novel fabrication method using holographic exposure for switchable blue phase (BP) liquid crystal (LC)/polymer Fresnel lens was demonstrated. The Fresnel pattern can be achieved by interfering a planar and a spherical wave fronts with a 532-nm laser. The SP consists of three-dimensional twist spheres (3-DTSs) and disclinations among 3-DTSs. The temperature range of the SP has been broadened to more than 85 degrees C by stabilizing the disclinations with amorphous polymer chains. The electro-optical switching time of the polymer-stabilized SP is demonstrated in sub-millisecond with a low switching electric field of 4.4 V mu m(-1), which is of promising applications in displays, 3-D tunable photonic crystals, and phase modulators. To enhance the light outcoupling efficiency without sacrificing the electrical properties, a patterned inverted conical (PIC) structure fabricated by a focused femtosecond laser on a flexible substrate was demonstrated. Compared with the conventional flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED), the OLED with the PIC structure exhibited a current efficiency increase of a factor of 2.6 with no emission spectrum altered. In addition, the flexible OLED with PIC substrate can avoid the mirror reflection effect under the strong ambient light for a better visual experience. This highly effective method is compatible with the current device fabrication process and is applicable for full-color OLED display and lighting.Item type:Item, High directional backlight using an integrated light guide plate(2015-01-26) ;Wang, Yi-Jun ;Ouyang, Shi-Hong ;Chao, Wei-Chung ;Lu, Jian-GangShieh, Han-Ping D.A high directional backlight system that combined a composite microstructure light guide plate (LGP) with a collimated light source was proposed for eco-displays. The collimated planar light was expanded from a point light source and guided towards the normal direction by utilizing the micro-prism array on LGP. High uniformity of spatial luminous, 91%, with a narrow viewing cone of +/- 4 degrees can be achieved without additional optical films. Moreover, compared to the conventional backlight, only 5% of power consumption was needed to keep the same luminance, hence, the optical efficiency increased by a factor of 1.47. The GPANI-PVB composite film offers great potential for applications in flexible and transparent interactive electronic devices.Item type:Item, Hybrid Effect of Crossed Alignment and Multi-Stacking Structure on the Percolation Behavior of Silver Nanowire Networks(2015-07-01) ;Yang, Bo-Ru ;Liu, Gui-Shi ;Han, Song-Jia ;Cao, WuChen, Hui-JiuanOwing to the superiority of being flexible, highly conductive, and extremely transparent, silver nanowire (AgNW) has been regarded as a possible candidate to replace indium-tin-oxide (ITO) for flexible transparent conductive films (TCFs), flexible electronics, and flexible display applications. To make TCFs with lower sheet resistance (R-s), but without sacrificing the optical transmittance, the deployment of AgNWs is very critical. A crossed-alignment method along with multi-stacking structure was proposed to lower the percolative threshold, which thus can decrease the R-s by a factor of more than two, in the premise of not affecting the optical transmittance.Item type:Item, Influence of Permittivity on the Sensitivity of Porous Elastomer-Based Capacitive Pressure Sensors(2018-03-01) ;Liu, Shi-Yu ;Lu, Jian-Gang ;Shieh, Han-Ping D. ;顯示科技研究所Institute of DisplayPorous elastomer has been used as the dielectric layer of capacitive pressure sensors to reduce the Young's modulus and improve the sensitivity. In this paper, influence of permittivity on the sensitivity of porous elastomer-based capacitive pressure sensors is investigated. By introducing metallic particles (silver nanoparticles) into porous elastomer (polydimethylsiloxane) to increase its permittivity, the sensitivity of the porous composite-based capacitive pressure sensor is improved by 101.5% in the low-to-medium pressure regime (0-100 kPa). The capacitive pressure sensor also shows high linearity, good durability, and high noise immunity. Due to its high sensitivity, an artificial hand based on the capacitive pressure sensor can detect tiny pressure changes induced by wrist pulse and derive pressure distribution on different phalanges.Item type:Item, Light extraction from electroluminescent devices using micro-rod array embedded within glass substrate(2015-07-27) ;Wang, Yi-Jun ;Ouyang, Shi-Hong ;Lu, Jian-Gang ;Shieh, Han-Ping D.光電工程學系The total internal reflection (TIR) effect in conventional electroluminescent devices causes a large amount of light energy trapped in the devices and result in heat energy that adversely affects the performance of the device. The micro-prisms on the compact light guide plate guide the emitting rays to the normal viewing angle, whereas a set of striped diffusers scatter the rays to a wide viewing angle. View cones of +/- 10 degrees/+/- 55 degrees were obtained for narrow/wide viewing modes with 88%/85% uniformity of spatial luminance, respectively. Compared with the conventional backlight, the optical efficiencies were increased by factors of 1.47 and 1.38 in narrow and wide viewing modes, respectively. In addition, only 5% of power consumption was needed when the backlight worked in private narrow viewing mode to maintain the same luminance as that of a conventional backlight.
