Item type:Item, A Sonification System Based on Geographic and Meteorologic Data(2015) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Nien, Wei-Po ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringMost algorithmic composition system is implemented based on the input of music parameters, which needs professional music and technology training to complete the automated composition. This paper proposed an innovated way called Geographic and Meteorologic Data Sonification System (GMDSS), to perform the data mappings into music for various devices such as hand phone or other hand-hold devices, and the driver can retrieve the environment information in real time to let people concentrate on driving without the need of paying attention to the long-term complicated data visualization. The mapping relationship between geographic/meteorologic data and music features is discussed, and the result shows the implementation of GIS and weather data which can compose the proper correspondent music accordingly.Item type:Item, A Study of the Integrated Automated Emotion Music with the Motion Gesture Synthesis via ZigBee Wireless Communication(2013) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Nien, Wei-Po ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringAutomated music composition and algorithmic composition are based on the logic operation with music parameters being set according to the desired music style or emotion. The computer generative music can be integrated with other domains using proper mapping techniques, such as the intermedia arts with music technology. This paper mainly discusses the possibility of integrating both automatic composition and motion devices with an Emotional Identification System (EIS) using the emotion classification and parameters through wireless communication ZigBee. The correspondent music pattern and motion path can be driven simultaneously via the cursor movement of the Emotion Map (EM) varying with time. An interactive music-motion platform is established accordingly.Item type:Item, Analyzing the perception of Chinese melodic imagery and its application to automated composition(2016-07) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Lian, Yu-Shian ;Nien, Wei-Po ;Chieng, Wei-Hua機械工程學系This study investigated the influence of two music elements, mode and rhythm, on melodic imagery. By modulating different parameters of mode and rhythm, this study produced various melody samples. Kansei engineering was adopted as a research method for designing the experimental process. A set of music assessment rules was established by regularizing the existing modes and rhythms and analyzing and comparing their differences. The results were applied to automated composition in order to develop a comprehensive automated composition system. Before the hearing experiment, 39 adjective pairs were selected for the survey of melodic imagery by reviewing literature and engaging in discussions with experts. A Markov chain was adopted for analyzing the current modal music to establish a Markov switching table for the Chinese pentatonic scale, and metrical complexity was used for generating rhythms. Finally, 30 music samples were produced using the automated composition system by applying the various combinations of modes and rhythms. The hearing experiment was conducted on 35 participants for examining their perception of melodic imagery. Item analysis and a reliability test were performed on the experimental data for eliminating invalid samples and items. Thus, 14 adjective pairs with a Cronbach\'s alpha of 0.887 were obtained, indicating favorable reliability. In addition, this study involved conducting factor analysis and extracting three imagery factors, namely passionate-apathetic, beautiful-ugly, and romantic-rigid. Subsequently, multivariate analysis of variance was conducted in this study for determining the relationship between modes and metrical complexity and the 14 adjective pairs, and the estimated means were calculated. Multidimensional scaling was adopted for producing a two-dimensional perceptual map for the construction of a database. The experimental results of this study showed that modes and rhythms in music can effectively help musicians or computer composition systems compose melodies that create various perceptual imageries.Item type:Item, Learning effectiveness of applying automated music composition software in the high grades of elementary school(2015-04-01) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Nien, Wei-Po ;Yeh, Yun-Sheng ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThe paper is mainly to explore the automated music composition experiences for the students in the high grades of elementary school who are unfamiliar with the professional music theory. The proposed Automated Composition for Music Education (ACME) software was developed to help the students to compose the rhythm and melody themselves, while chord configuration and arrangement are automatically generated. Subsequently, sixth-year students of a non-experimental school were recruited to use the software for the completion of its development. Analysis of learning effectiveness at the reaction level, analysis of learning-level learning effectiveness, correlation analysis of the reaction- and learning-levels learning effectiveness has been performed with a significant result. The correlations between each component of learning effectiveness at the reaction and learning levels were also found. Finally the students in the experimental group using the ACME teaching materials showed a better learning effectiveness at both reaction level and learning level, than those of the students in the comparison group.
