Item type:Item, An Novel Brain-computer Interface Controller Scheme for Multimedia Control(2013) ;Pan, Jeng-Shyang ;Liu, Zhengkun ;Lin, Bor-Shyh ;Yan, Lijun影像與生醫光電研究所Due to the revolutionary developments in computer science and electronics, multiple kinds of new controllers are introduced. Such as eye tracking, voice recognition and hand gesture recognition. But these controller scheme still have their drawbacks. In this paper, we proposed an improved brain-computer interface (BCI) controller based on SSVEP. Our scheme provide good accuracy and comfortable user experience.Item type:Item, Design of novel non-contact multimedia controller for disability by using visual stimulus(2015-12-01) ;Pan, Jeng-Shyang ;Lo, Chi-Chun ;Tsai, Shang-Ho ;Lin, Bor-Shyh影像與生醫光電研究所The design of a novel non-contact multimedia controller is proposed in this study. Nowadays, multimedia controllers are generally used by patients and nursing assistants in the hospital. Conventional multimedia controllers usually involve in manual operation or other physical movements. However, it is more difficult for the disabled patients to operate the conventional multimedia controller by themselves; they might totally depend on others. Different from other multimedia controllers, the proposed system provides a novel concept of controlling multimedia via visual stimuli, without manual operation. The disabled patients can easily operate the proposed multimedia system by focusing on the control icons of a visual stimulus device, where a commercial tablet is used as the visual stimulus device. Moreover, a wearable and wireless electroencephalogram (EEG) acquisition device is also designed and implemented to easily monitor the user\'s EEG signals in daily life. Finally, the proposed system has been validated. The experimental result shows that the proposed system can effectively measure and extract the EEG feature related to visual stimuli, and its information transfer rate is also good. Therefore, the proposed non-contact multimedia controller exactly provides a good prototype of novel multimedia controlling scheme. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Numerous motor-imagery-based BCIs have been successfully proposed in previous studies. However, several electroencephalogram (EEG) channels are typically required for providing sufficient information to maintain a specific accuracy and bit rate, and the bulk volume of these EEG machines is also inconvenient. A wearable motor imagery-based BCI system was proposed and implemented in this study. A wearable mechanical design with novel active comb-shaped dry electrodes was developed to measure EEG signals without conductive gels at hair sites, which is easy and convenient for users wearing the EEG machine. In addition, a wireless EEG acquisition module was also designed to measure EEG signals, which provides a user with more freedom of motion. The proposed wearable motor-imagery-based BCI system was validated using an electrical specifications test and a hand motor imagery experiment. Experimental results showed that the proposed wearable motor-imagery-based BCI system provides favorable signal quality for measuring EEG signals and detecting motor imagery.Item type:Item, Novel Non-Contact Control System for Medical Healthcare of Disabled Patients(2016-01-01) ;Lo, Chi-Chun ;Chien, Tsung-Yi ;Pan, Jeng-Shyang ;Lin, Bor-Shyh影像與生醫光電研究所When limb-disabled patients want to activate the nurse emergency call system, adjust the temperature on air-conditioners, switch On or Off lights, watch television, or have other urgent needs, and require assistance from other people, their needs cannot be readily met if there is no one around. All above devices need to be operated manually or with a remote control. Thus, disabled patients cannot operate by themselves, and this also increases the burden of the nursing assistants. In order to improve the above issue, a novel non-contact control system is designed to allow disabled patients activating the nurse emergency call system and adjusting other appliances. Disabled patients can stare at the control icons of a visual stimulus generator, which accompanies a wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) acquisition device with non-contact dry electrode for monitoring patients' EEG signals and converting the EEG signals into relevant control commands via the signal processing system, to achieve the function of nurse calling and the effect of controlling the devices in a hospital. The result shows that the proposed system could effectively monitor and convert EEG signals and achieve the control effects for which disabled a patient desires in a hospital. Therefore, the non-contact control system provides a new control framework for the facilities in a hospital, which significantly assist patients with limb disability.Item type:Item, Novel Noncontact Dry Electrode With Adaptive Mechanical Design for Measuring EEG in a Hairy Site(2015-12-01) ;Chen, Yu-Chun ;Lin, Bor-Shyh ;Pan, Jeng-Shyang ;影像與生醫光電研究所Institute of Imaging and Biomedical PhotonicsElectroencephalography (EEG) can provide important and useful information in clinical diagnosis. The conventional EEG electrode with conductive gel (wet electrode) is most frequently used for measuring EEG. However, the wet electrode encounters the issue of dehydration for long-term measurement. Recently, different types of dry electrodes were proposed to overcome the above issue, but measuring EEG in a hairy site is still a challenge for these electrodes. In this paper, a novel noncontact dry electrode with adaptive mechanical design is proposed to measure EEG in a hairy site without conductive gel. The proposed noncontact dry electrode can measure EEG across the hair layer to reduce the influence of hair. By the adaptive mechanical design, the influence of motion artifact can also be effectively improved. From the experimental results, the proposed noncontact dry electrode can provide a good performance of measuring EEG in a hairy site and a good ability to avoid the influence of motion artifact.
