Item type:Item, Elongation of arrays of amorphous carbon tubes(2005-10-01) ;Wang, LS ;Wang, CH ;Peng, CW ;Lee, CYChiu, HTItem type:Item, Polygon building block route to sp(2)-carbon-based materials(2001-07-18) ;Lee, CY ;Chiu, HT ;Peng, CW ;Yen, MYChang, YHPentagonal- and hexogonal-shaped building block precursors provide a novel, high-yield method for the preparation of carbon onions and nanosized graphite particles. A reaction of hexachlorocyclopentadiene (C5Cl6) with sodium (see Figure) offers carbon onions with 8-50 spherical and elliptical shells. The same reaction with hexachlorobenzene (C6Cl6) results in a mixture of graphite crystallites. The nanostructures are generated by the reaction of liquid sodium with the vapors of methylchlorosilanes, with the morphology of the resulting nanostructures dependent upon the interactions between the phase-separated solid products generated at the interface of the vapor-liquid/solid reactions.Item type:Item, Synthesis of sp(2) carbon nano- and microrods with novel structure and morphology(2003) ;Chang, YH ;Chiu, HT ;Wang, LS ;Wan, CYPeng, CWA unique form of carbon rods has been synthesized by reacting C6Cl6 with Li at 523 K. TEM images show that the structure is graphite-like, with the layers arranged perpendicular to the long axis of the rods. The average rod size is 0.3 x 6 5 mm. The larger ones are 1 x 10 mum. The ratio of graphite-like to disordered carbon atoms, determined by solid-state C-13 NMR, is 1:1.Item type:Item, Tetrahydrofuran activation assisted synthesis of nanosized lithium niobate and lithium tantalate(2006-04-01) ;Chien, CH ;Chang, YH ;Tsai, CP ;Peng, CWWang, LSBlack solid precursors obtained from reactions between MCl5 (M = Nb, Ta) and alkyllithiums, n-butyllithium ((BuLi)-Bu-n) and ethyllithium (EtLi), in tetrahydrofuran (THF) were heat treated under vacuum at 673-973 K to form nano-sized particles (20-100 nm in diameter) of lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and lithium tantalate (LiTaO3). Stoichiometry of the reactants is critical and affects the phases of the products. Based on the volatile byproducts detected, a reaction pathway involving the activation of THF by alkyllithiums is proposed to be important for the formation of LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 precursors.
