Item type:Item, A crosslinked fullerene matrix doped with an ionic fullerene as a cathodic buffer layer toward high-performance and thermally stable polymer and organic metallohalide perovskite solar cells(2015-01-01) ;Chao, Yi-Hsiang ;Huang, Yi-You ;Chang, Jen-Yun ;Peng, Shih-HaoTu, Wei-YiIn this study, we developed a new cathodic buffer layer consisting of a cross-linked [6,6]-phenyl-C-61-butyric styryl dendron ester (C-PCBSD) matrix and an ionic FPI dopant. The incorporation of FPI can improve the electron mobility via an anion induced charge transfer (AIET) mechanism, while maintaining the solvent-resistant properties of the crosslinked layer. ZnO combined with the C-PCBSD/FPI layer can effectively and universally improve the performance of bulk-heterojunction polymer solar cells (BHJPSCs), planar heterojunction polymer solar cells (PHJPSCs), and organic metallohalide perovskite solar cells (OMPSCs). Furthermore, the insertion of the C-PCBSD/FPI layer can improve the thermal stability of the device by preventing the residual moisture in ZnO from diffusing into the CH3NH3PbI3 layer in OMPSCs.Item type:Item, Biocompatible D-A Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticle with Light-Harvesting Unit for Highly Effective Photoacoustic Imaging Guided Photothermal Therapy(2017-04-05) ;Zhang, Jinfeng ;Yang, Caixia ;Zhang, Rui ;Chen, RuiZhang, ZhenyuThe development of nanotheranostic agents that integrate diagnosis and therapy for effective personalized precision medicine has obtained tremendous attention in the past few decades. In this report, biocompatible electron donor-acceptor conjugated semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (PPor-PEG NPs) with light-harvesting unit is prepared and developed for highly effective photoacoustic imaging guided photothermal therapy. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that the concept of light-harvesting unit is exploited for enhancing the photoacoustic signal and photothermal energy conversion in polymer-based theranostic agent. Combined with additional merits including donor-acceptor pair to favor electron transfer and fluorescence quenching effect after NP formation, the photothermal conversion efficiency of the PPor-PEG NPs is determined to be 62.3%, which is the highest value among reported polymer NPs. Moreover, the as-prepared PPor-PEG NP not only exhibits a remarkable cell-killing ability but also achieves 100% tumor elimination, demonstrating its excellent photothermal therapeutic efficacy. Finally, the as-prepared water-dispersible PPor-PEG NPs show good biocompatibility and biosafety, making them a promising candidate for future clinical applications in cancer theranostics.Item type:Item, Chlorinated Carbon-Bridged and Silicon-Bridged Carbazole-Based Nonfullerene Acceptors Manifest Synergistic Enhancement in Ternary Organic Solar Cell with Efficiency over 15%(1970-01-01) ;Chen, Tsung-Wei ;Yu, Jun-Yan ;Lin, You-Wei ;Peng, Shih-HaoWu, Shang-HsuanHerein, two novel nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs), DTCC-4Cl and DTSiC-4Cl, are synthesized by end-capping dithienocyclopentacarbazole (DTCC) and dithieno-silolocarbazole (DTSiC) cores with chlorinated IC (2Cl-IC) units, respectively. With the better-known advantage of having the extraordinary sigma*-pi* conjugation of silole unit embedded in the DTSiC core, DTSiC-4Cl manifests upshifted lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), blue-shifted absorption, and increased pi-pi interaction in comparison with DTCC-4Cl. Furthermore, to elucidate the effect of bridging atoms on the photovoltaic performance, T1 is selected as the polymer donor to be blended with DTCC-4Cl and DTSiC-4Cl. T1:DTCC-4Cl-based devices exhibit a fine power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.43% and T1:DTSiC-4Cl-based devices exhibit a comparable PCE of 14.46%. Interestingly, the T1:DTSiC-4Cl-based devices demonstrate an additive-free feature, which is worthy of further applications. From the perspective of constructing high-performance ternary devices, DTCC-4Cl is expected to possess excellent compatibility with DTSiC-4Cl owing to its structural similarity. As anticipated, the ternary T1:DTSiC-4Cl:DTCC-4Cl-based device outperforms the binary T1:DTCC-4Cl and T1:DTSiC-4Cl-based devices, affording a decent PCE of 15.04% with aV(OC)of 0.97 V, aJ(SC) of 20.80 mA cm(-2), and an FF of 74.55% without any additive.Item type:Item, High efficiency ternary organic solar cell with morphology-compatible polymers(2017-06-21) ;Mai, Jiangquan ;Lu, Haipeng ;Lau, Tsz-Ki ;Peng, Shih-HaoHsu, Chain-ShuTernary organic solar cell is a promising strategy for improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of single-junction organic solar cells by broadening the light absorption spectrum with the incorporation of two electron donors and one acceptor or one donor and two acceptors. However, in many cases the optimized loading of the third component is so small that its contribution to the light absorption is limited. Following our previously proposed selection rule for the two polymers capable of comparable loadings, we report in this work a ternary system composed of two morphologically compatible polymers with distinct chemical structures that can achieve a high PCE of 9.0% with a mass ratio of 1:1. Besides the expected improvement in short circuit current due to the broadening of the absorption spectrum, the fill factor of the ternary device is improved significantly. We attribute it to the balanced electron and hole mobility and reduced recombination benefiting from the high morphology compatibility of the system.Item type:Item, Porphyrin-Containing Polymer as a Superior Blue Light-Absorbing Additive To Afford High-J(sc) Ternary Solar Cells(2019-01-09) ;Li, Chia-Hua ;Chang, Chia-Chih ;Hsiao, Yu-Hsuan ;Peng, Shih-HaoSu, Yi-JiaIntegrating an additional component featuring complementary light absorption into binary polymer solar cells is a superior tactic to ameliorate solar cell efficiency and stability. An appropriate additive not only extends the absorption range but may also facilitate charge separation and transport processes. In this work, we elucidate the effects of incorporating a porphyrin-containing conjugated polymer (PPor-1), which displays absorption in 350-500 nm, into binary PTB7-Th:4TIC and PTB7-Th:ITIC blends, affording devices with an average power conversion efficiency approaching 9%. We successfully demonstrate that PPor-1 can be incorporated as an additive to impart improved J(sc) (up to 19.1 mA cm(-2)).Item type:Item, Synthesis of diketopyrrolopyrrole based conjugated polymers containing thieno[3,2-b]thiophene flanking groups for high performance thin film transistors(2017-06-14) ;Peng, Shih-Hao ;Tu, Wei-Yi ;Gollavelli, Ganesh ;Hsu, Chain-Shu應用化學系New donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugate polymers based on 3,6-bis(2-bromothieno-[3,2-b] thiophen-5-yl)2,5- bis(2-octyldodecyl) pyrrolo[3,4-c]-pyrrole-1,4-(2H, 5H)-dione (Br-TTDPP) combined with three different electron-donating monomers bithiophene (BT), di(2-thienyl) ethene (TVT), and di(selenophene2- yl) ethene (SVS) were synthesized. The optical band gap, electrochemical properties and organic fieldeffect transistor (OFET) device performance of the TTDPP-based polymers were systematically investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to evaluate the molecular packing of the TTDPP-based polymers. Among three polymers, TTDPP-SVS showed the smallest d-spacing and the largest distance of 0.372 for pi-pi stacking. In particular, an OTFT having a TTDPP-SVS active layer showed the highest hole mobility of 0.196 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), the lowest threshold voltage down to -3.6 V, and the highest Ion/Ioff ratio of 6.5 x 10(4). This indicates that p-extended SVS significantly improves charge transport properties.Item type:Item, Synthesis of novel conjugated polymers based on benzo[1,2-d:4,5-d ']-bis([1,2,3]triazole) for applications in organic field-effect transistors(2019-03-28) ;Yeh, Yao-Ming ;Huang, Chiao-Hui ;Peng, Shih-Hao ;Chang, Chia-ChihHsu, Chain-ShuNovel donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymers based on 4,8-bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,6-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-2H-benzo[1,2-d:4,5-d']- bis([1,2,3]triazole)-6-ium-5-ide (BTBBTa) combined with three different electron-donating monomers bithiophene (BT), thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (TT), (E)-2-[2-(thiophen-2yl)vinyl]thiophene (TVT) were synthesized. By replacing the sulfur atoms on benzobisthiadiazole with nitrogen atoms, benzobistriazole (BBTa) can possess alkyl chains on the central nitrogen atoms rather than on the thiophene rings along the polymer chain, which can reduce the steric hindrance between neighboring monomers and increase the planarity of polymers. The optical, thermal and electrochemical properties of the polymers were characterized, respectively. DFT calculations were used to calculate the optimized geometries of polymer backbones. The thin film microstructures of the polymers were characterized by using GIWAXS and AFM. In these novel polymers, PBTBBTa-BT displayed the highest hole mobility of 0.21 cm(2) V-1 s(-1).Item type:Item, Thiophene and diketopyrrolopyrrole based conjugated polymers as efficient alternatives to spiro-OMeTAD in perovskite solar cells as hole transporting layers(2017-06-07) ;Peng, Shih-Hao ;Huang, Tzu-Wei ;Gollavelli, Ganesh ;Hsu, Chain-Shu應用化學系Poly[(5,5 '-bis(3-dodecyl-2-thienyl)-2,2 '-bithiophene)] (PQT), poly-(2,5-bis(3-alkylthiophene-2-yl)thieno-[3,2-b]thiophene) (PBTTT), poly{2,2 '-[(2,5-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-3,6-dioxo-2,3,5,6-tetrahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-diyl)]dithiophene-5,5 '-diyl-alt-2,2 '-bithiophene-5,5 '-diyl} (PDQT) and poly{2,2 '-[(2,5-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-3,6-dioxo-2,3,5,6-tetrahydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-diyl)]dithiophene-5,5 '-diyl-alt-thieno-[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-diyl} (PDBT-co-TT) were used to replace spiro-OMeTAD as efficient hole transporting layers (HTLs) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). We demonstrated that both the hole mobility and suitable energy levels of these polymers are important factors in PSCs using organic field-effect transistors (OTFTs) and cyclic voltammetry analysis. The doping effect and the hydrophobic properties of the HTLs were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and water contact angle measurements. The results show that the PBTTT-14 and PDBT-co-TT based PSCs showed the best PCE of 14.1% and 12.0%, respectively when compared with spiro-OMeTAD based PSCs which have a PCE of 10.2%.Item type:Item, Understanding Morphology Compatibility for High-Performance Ternary Organic Solar Cells(2016-09-13) ;Mai, Jiangquan ;Lau, Tsz-Ki ;Li, Jun ;Peng, Shih-HaoHsu, Chain-ShuTernary organic solar cells are emerging as a promising strategy to enhance device power conversion efficiency by broadening the range of light absorption via the incorporation of additional light-absorbing components. However, how to find compatible materials that allow comparable loadings of each component remains a challenge. In this article, we focus on studying the donor polymer compatibilities in ternary systems from a morphological point of view. Four typical donor polymers with different chemical structures and absorption ranges were mutually combined to form six distinct ternary systems with fullerene derivative acceptors. Two compatible ternary systems were identified as showing significant improvements of efficiency from both binary control devices. Ternary morphologies were characterized by grazing incident X-ray scattering and correlated with device performance. We find that polymers that have strong lamellar interactions and relatively similar phase separation behaviors with the fullerene derivative are more likely to be compatible in ternary systems. This result provides guidance for polymer selection for future ternary organic solar cell research while relaxing the limitation of chemical structure similarity and greatly extends the donor candidate pool.
