Item type:Item, Cost efficiency and the effect of mergers on the Taiwanese banking industry(2004-07-01) ;Peng, YH ;Wang, KL ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThis study addresses the cost efficiency, economies of scale and scope of the Taiwanese banking industry, specifically focusing on how bank mergers affect cost efficiency. Adopting stochastic frontier analysis, we employ a translog cost function for efficiency estimation. Composite error terms are used to account for managerial inefficiency and environmental effects. Empirical results suggest that economies of scale and scope exist at small and medium-sized banks. Meanwhile, government-owned or -controlled banks are the most cost efficient. Non-performing loans increase the inefficiency of the banking sector by just under 10 per cent. Further analysis reveals that bank merger activity is positively related to cost efficiency. Mergers can enhance cost efficiency, even though the number of bank employees does not decline. The banks involved in mergers are generally small and were established after the banking sector was deregulated.Item type:Item, Optical disk mastering using optical superresolution technique(2001-03-01) ;Shieh, HPD ;Tsai, SY ;Peng, YH ;Hsieh, TE材料科學與工程學系A new laser lithography technique using the effect of optical superresolution can effectively reduce the exposed spot size on a photoresist layer, thus allowing disk mastering toward higher density using an existing light source and optics. A thin metallic mask layer deposited on the top of the photoresist layer is used to obtain a "below optical diffraction limit" linewidth on the photoresist layer. The feasibility of the laser lithography technique, as evaluated by simulation and experimental results, revealed that the linewidth on the photoresist layer could be shrunk by more than 50% of the diffraction limit of the optical system.
