Item type:Item, BEAM PROPAGATION METHOD ANALYSIS OF TRANSVERSE-ELECTRIC WAVES PROPAGATING IN A NONLINEAR TAPERED PLANAR WAVE-GUIDE(1991-11-01) ;SHI, TT ;CHI, S ;光電工程學系 ;電信研究中心Department of PhotonicsThe propagation of TE-polarized guided waves in a nonlinear tapered waveguide is studied. The incident fields are chosen from the stable branches of the nonlinear dispersion curve in its uniform section. The propagations of the field in both directions are calculated by the beam-propagation method. Wave propagation in the tapered waveguide is discussed in terms of the nonlinear dispersion curves of the waveguide. Depending on the intensity, the field can radiate as a spatial soliton or it can have an abrupt transition between the guided mode and the surface polariton. The wave propagation of an incident field that is composed of a dominant TE0 wave and a small TE1 wave is investigated. Finally, using a property of this wave propagation, we present a new device for continuous signal routing.Item type:Item, NONLINEAR PHOTONIC SWITCHING BY USING THE SPATIAL SOLITON COLLISION(1990-10-15) ;SHI, TT ;CHI, S ;交大名義發表 ;光電工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR TE-WAVE PROPAGATION IN A SYMMETRICAL, CONVERGING, SINGLE-MODE Y-JUNCTION WAVE-GUIDE(1992-08-01) ;SHI, TT ;CHI, S ;光電工程學系 ;電信研究中心Department of PhotonicsNonlinear TE-wave propagation in a symmetric, converging, single-mode Y-junction waveguide is investigated. Numerical results simulated by the beam-propagation method showed that the insertion loss depends on the power of the incident light and can be reduced to 0.89 dB for some appropriate power. The insertion loss can be further decreased, but the wave propagating in the stem begins to oscillate.Item type:Item, NONLINEAR Y-JUNCTION COUPLER(1990-03-01) ;CHI, S ;SHI, TT ;交大名義發表 ;光電工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR-WAVE PROPAGATION IN AN ASYMMETRIC CONVERGING Y-JUNCTION(1991-07-15) ;SHI, TT ;CHI, S ;光電工程學系 ;電信研究中心Department of PhotonicsNonlinear wave propagation in an asymmetric converging Y junction, which consists of a nonlinear cladding, a linear film, and a linear substrate, is studied. The nonlinear dispersion curves of the successive sections of the Y junction are calculated to be used to illustrate the evolutions of the eigenmodes. The field incident from the nonlinear thinner branch can evolve into the symmetric mode of the stem with a high coupling efficiency. An insertion coupler for a time-multiplexed loop is suggested.
