Item type:Item, AREA COMPUTATION BY COORDINATES(1995-11-01) ;SHIH, TY ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringArea computation by coordinates has become the conventional method for application purposes. The structure and forms of the equations used for this method are investigated in this study. Various factors that result in a negative value of the computed area are also explored. Examples are provided to illustrate that the value of area is independent of the location of origin. If sign conventions are followed faithfully in various quadrants, the numerical answer will be the same. Traditionally,:a negative area is considered as meaningless. This article demonstrated some potentially useful information provided by the sign of the area. To improve accuracy, two interpolation schemes, cubic spline and Akima's 1970 quasi-Hermite spline, are tested with numerical examples. For the limited examples experienced, both algorithms have demonstrated the potential for accuracy improvement. However, there is no conclusive evidence on which algorithm is the better one.Item type:Item, ERROR PROPERTIES OF STADIA MEASUREMENTS WITH INCOMPLETE INTERCEPT(1995-08-01) ;SHIH, TY ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringThe error properties of the stadia measurement with incomplete-intercept readings were analyzed in this study. Several numerical experiments were also conducted. Finally a comparison was made on the magnitude of the stochastic error propagated with the error introduced via the nonrigorous functional model for incomplete-intercept readings. This comparison has provided an opportunity to compare the significance of functional-error with stochastic-error components. The identified functional error can be easily removed; meanwhile, the stochastic-error component of measurement is valuable for the documentation of surveying quality.Item type:Item, LEAST-SQUARES SOLUTION FOR DANGLING-LINE CASE IN CADASTRAL-MAP RESURVEY(1995-05-01) ;SHIH, TY ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringA variety of practical problems have been experienced in the cadastral-map resurvey in Taiwan. One of them concerns the dangling boundary lines shared with a number of land parcels. Conventionally, this problem is resolved subjectively by the operator via graphic tools. An alternative solution based on the least-squares principle, thereby offering an objective means of assessment, is proposed and described in this study. The normal representation of a line is used to parameterize boundary segments. This formulation avoids the difficulty encountered with other representations, such as the slope-intercept equation. The formulation stated in this paper still remains nonlinear with respect to the unknown parameter(s). However, the convergence is quite stable in all numerical experiments conducted so far. Both the two-parameter and one-parameter cases are discussed.Item type:Item, THE REVERSIBILITY OF 6 GEOMETRIC COLOR SPACES(1995-10-01) ;SHIH, TY ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringColor coordinate systems provide a way to address, to describe, and to manipulate colors. in the field of image processing and computer graphics, several color models in common use include RGB, HVC, HSV HLS, and ISH. In this study, the reversibility of several color coordinate systems and their numerical characteristics are studied. All these models are classified as user-oriented and related to the perceptual color space.Item type:Item, THE REVERSIBILITY OF 6 GEOMETRIC COLOR SPACES(1995-10-01) ;SHIH, TY ;土木工程學系Department of Civil EngineeringColor coordinate systems provide a way to address, to describe, and to manipulate colors. in the field of image processing and computer graphics, several color models in common use include RGB, HVC, HSV HLS, and ISH.
