Item type:Item, A 80-uW 2-Mb/s Transceiver for Human Body Channel Binaural Communication(2012) ;Sun, Jhih-Cing ;Chen, Jou-Ling ;Shen, Yi-Hung ;You, Shiu-ChainJou, Shyh-JyeWe use a body channel and a low-power transceiver design to achieve binaural communication for hearing aids. The measured bandwidth of the body channel is 1 MHz to 7.5 MHz. The transmitter encodes and transmits data of 2-Mb/s and 1-V peak-to-peak square waveform to the electrodes connected to the body. The receiver includes an analog front end (AFE), an all-digital data recovery circuit and a decoder. This chip is implemented with a 65-nm CMOS process using 0.5-V supply in the digital transceiver and 1-V supply in the AFE. When working at 2 Mb/s, the power consumption is only 80 uW.Item type:Item, A Low-Power Body-Channel Communication System for Binaural Hearing Aids(2012) ;Chen, Jou-Ling ;Sun, Jhih-Cing ;Shen, Yi-Hung ;Sang, Tzu-HsienChang, Tian-SheuanIn modern binaural hearing aids, the realization of many advanced functions depends on reliable exchange of information for both sides. Commercially available hearing aids often use RF technologies to meet the communication needs, despite the relatively high power consumption associated with them. In a series of two papers, we describe a low-power communication system utilizing skin conductance designed for binaural hearing aids. Due to the facts that skin contact naturally happens in binaural hearing aids and baseband modulation techniques with low power consumption can be used in transmission over skin, the skin communication system is found to be perfectly suited for the needs of binaural hearing aids. In this paper of the series, system-level design issues are discussed and design specifics of the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer are given, while in the sister paper, low power circuit design and physical-layer algorithms are detailed.
