Item type:Item, Design and Fabrication of a Small-Form-Factor Optical Pickup Head(2009-05-01) ;Chiu, Yi ;Shih, Hsi-Fu ;Chiou, Jin-Chern ;Cheng, Shih-TungHung, Kuo-YungThis paper presents the design and fabrication of a small-form-factor optical pickup head (OPH) for both red and blue wavelength. A holographic optical element (HOE) is used for beam splitting, aberration correction, and servo-signal generation to reduce the number of components and simplify the assembly procedure. In addition to demonstrating this OPH by using existing discrete components, several key components and processes are developed to use micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) technology to facilitate batch fabrication and wafer level assembly of the micro OPU.Item type:Item, Fabrication and Verification of a Small-Form-Factor Blue-Light Optical Pickup Head With Holographic Optical Element(2012-01-01) ;Lin, Yue-Jheng ;Chiu, Yi ;Shih, Hsi-Fu ;Chiou, Jin-Chern電機工程學系A small-form-factor (SFF) blue-light optical pickup head (OPH) with holographic optical element (HOE) has been fabricated and assembled. The assembly and alignment of various components in the pickup head were facilitated by using a flip chip bonder. Experimental results indicated that the focusing error signal (FES) of the assembled OPH with the wavelength of 405 nm could be successfully detected. The linear range of the FES was about than 4 m. The gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R) of the assembly process was tested and found to be acceptable.Item type:Item, Micro objective lens with NA 0.65 for the blue-light small-form-factor optical pickup head(2008-08-18) ;Shih, Hsi-Fu ;Lee, Yuan-Chin ;Chiu, Yi ;Chao, David Wei-ChungLin, Gung-DingA micro objective lens with the numerical aperture (NA) of 0.65 and clear aperture of 1.1mm was designed, fabricated, and tested for the proposed blue-light small-form-factor optical pickup head system. It adopted the finite optical conjugation and could be produced by using the glass molding technique. The experimental results verify the optical performance near the diffraction-limited focus spot for the applications of high-density portable optical storage systems. A simple calculation scheme was proposed. With the simulation flow, six different types of in-line gratings were analyzed, compared, and discussed. The simulation results show that the pattern with three segmented central regions has the best signal performance.Item type:Item, Optical head design using prism-type holographic optical element for small form factor applications(2008-01-01) ;Shih, Hsi-Fu ;Lee, Yuan-Chin ;Chiu, Yi ;Lin, Gung-Ding電控工程研究所This paper presents an optical head design that minimizes the component number and miniaturizes the head dimension by using a novel reflective prism-type holographic optical element (PT HOE) for the next-generation high-density blue-light system with small form factor (SFF). The PT HOE combines four functions, serving as a folding mirror, a beam-splitter, an aberration correction element, and a servo-signal generation device, which are generally required for a conventional optical pickup head (OPH). It greatly simplifies the system complication and assembly procedure of an OPH. Simulations give the satisfactory results and show the feasibility for realizing a high-density SFF OPH with a simple and compact configuration.Item type:Item, Optimising the performance of optical data storage drives based on a novel seesaw-swivel actuator for a holographic module(2011-07-01) ;Lin, Yu-Cheng ;Chou, Po-Chien ;Hou, Kuan-Chou ;Cheng, StoneChiou, Jin-ChernThis Letter presents an optical module with a holographic optical element (HOE) for the small-form-factor pickup head. The proposed module is mounted on a novel seesaw swivel-drive mechanism with unique features, including a rotary actuator for track-following; in addition, a seesaw arm nutates along a pivot for laser focusing. Additionally, the actuating force is increased within the limit of actuator size constraints by using a Halbach-magnet-array in biaxial voice coil motors. Experimental assessment of the holographic module and actuator reveals that the HOE module ensures the optical performance and stability of the system, together with a performance superior to a classic hinge-type swing arm actuator, as attributed to enhanced durability and higher robustness.Item type:Item, Prism-type holographic optical element design and verification for the blue-light small-form-factor optical pickup head(2012-08-20) ;Shih, Hsi-Fu ;Chiu, Yi ;Cheng, Stone ;Lee, Yuan-ChinLu, Chun-ShinThis paper presents the prism-type holographic optical element (PT-HOE) design for a small-form-factor (SFF) optical pickup head (OPH). The surface of the PT-HOE was simulated by three steps of optimization and generated by binary optics. Its grating pattern was fabricated on the inclined plane of a microprism by using the standard photolithography and specific dicing procedures. The optical characteristics of the device were verified. Based on the virtual image method, the SFF-OPH with the device was assembled and realized.
